I have been doing it on and off with my extension braids (a full head baggy.) I baggy not just for the moisture but to acelerate hair growth in conjunction with my growth oil. I haven't seen any negative effects so far but I am wondering if there maybe.

MY big sis Soun said that I should do it. I didn't but the next time I braid with extensions I'll do it.

yea, I do this everytime I have braids. It is a great way to retain moisture since synthetic hair can be so drying. I have absolutely no breakage when I do this, it's a keeper.

Baggying is a way of life for me. In braids, out of braids...makes no difference. I got to bed in plastic cap every night.

for those that do this, do u notice an odor...musty in the AM? what do u do to prevent that?

Only the smell of the conditioner I used last. I don't use any other products in my hair except shampoo and conditioner and ACV rinse with EO's. So my hair just smells like conditioner. I was telling a friend how I woke up one day craving fruit and thought hubby was making some delicious fruit dish for breakfast but it was my hair I was smelling after using Pomegranate Organix conditioner!

So Nonie, you just slather conditioner on your braids, put on a cap for bed, and then rinse it out in the morning? Is your hair ever mushy when you take the braids down?

No. Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant I do not use any other products after washing my hair. Once my hair is dry it stays like that: bare. No braid products, no oils. So when I baggy I don't get any smells but the slight whiff of the conditioner I used when I last washed my hair. I have Water Wave extensions and when I don't have time to style them, I will CW too in between washes so the ends can look wavy. And since I don't apply anything else, my hair smells like that till the next time I wash and use something else.

I cannot sleep with conditioner on and a cap coz if it gets on my scalp, I'll itch like mad. I make a lot of effort not to get conditioner on my scalp even when conditioning during a wash by avoiding applying it to the bottom inch or so of my hair closest to my scalp.

Thanks for this thread OP! I have on Kinky Twists and have wanted to Baggy with these, but I wasnt sure if there would be any benefit. I think I will start this soon.

Can some more of you all chime in with reggies/techniques for baggying in extensions?

I'm a on the same no-product aka no-leave-in regimen that I am always on whenever I'm not wearing my hair out so my baggy regimen is simply. Cornrow braids so they aren't all over the place and put baggy on. In the AM, take baggy off and style hair. That's it.

Thanks Nonie!!

I baggy in braids every night. Since my hair is prone to dryness, I like to use Worlds of Curls moisturizer and add a few drops of Peppermint oil. Sometimes, I use Surge 14 spray with the WOC for a shot of protein. I noticed that I have NO breakage when I remove my braids. I have never baggied with conditioner overnight with braids but I may try that soon.

I haven't noticed any odors the next day. I think odors may occur depending on which product you choose to baggy with. But, I noticed that if I'm sweating at night, I'll have a sweaty scent in my hair in the morning. I tried baggying with MTG last year when I wore Kinky Twists. Big mistake.:nono: That scent followed me everywhere.

Just wanted to add that I think if you use products and baggy, you may find you need less product as your hair will feel moisturized with just a little or one application. So not only do you reduce chances of build-up from using too much product but you also won't finish your products as fast.

I am such a fiend....I have my kinky twists baggied now. No product either, just water and a plastic cap

:giggle: Don't get ill though. I have never baggied a wet head. Usually my hair is dry when I baggy. I'm worried that your hair will be so wet in the AM if you baggy it wet. :perplexed Or you may catch a head cold.

Do you have human hair braids? If you do you could braid them and then baggy. (I think this could work with synthetic too). In future do it long before bed so hair in braids is dry by bedtime. Then baggy. In the AM, take cap off and let the moisture evaporate a bit in the braids...and then undo the braids for cute waves.

That's what I am using on my braids now and I love it. I want to baggy but I am currently using MTG and don't want to offend people with the smell.

I do this all the time whenever I have twist in my hair. I currently moisturize with the African Pride braid spray and seal with castor oil and put a plastic cap over it. Moisturized hair in the morn.

The odor occurs after a few days baggying...say around night 4 or 5...this was a while back and i dont remember what i baggyed with...anyway im thinking about starting up again...using little braid spray and the hair softner (moisturizer) + lil bit of shea butter mix.

Nonie, so u bag without products?
I have synthetic extensions that werent braided all the way to the end ( a little smaller than pencil sized but not micros) and i have 2 apply products or else my hair dries out.

For those that baggy with products, is ur hair wet/damp in the AM bcos my hair is always damp in the morning.
how long does it take for ur hair to dry?
another issue i have with baggying braids is that my hair gets frizzier sooner, almost like im washing everyday...but I might have to do like Nonie and redo the frizzier ones without taking out the whole braids (which is kinda hard with FT work and school)

Ohhh, okay! Now I understand. So I need to baggy dry hair- not wet. I am sitting here with moist kinky twists (But I LOVE the feeling of damp hair ). I will make sure my twists are dry and will make another attempt tonight.

This is a really interesting thread.
I am in braids right now.

So you baggy overnight and then do you necessariy co-wash in the AM or you just sytle and go?

Scarcity, perhaps washing every 3 days also makes a difference and since I don't apply anything else on my hair, the smell that lingers in my hair is the conditioner smell.

Correct: I baggy without any products. I have never not braided my hair to the ends and I used human hair extensions so can't really say how my regimen would work with synthetic.

My hair is moist in the AM. I am sure it's a mixture of sweat, sebum, condensed moisture. But it's not a moist you'd call wet. It just feels soft.

If I'm planning a braid out, I will usually wait for about an hour after taking my plastic cap off to undo the braids otherwise the waves won't form properly coz the moisture makes the waves fall. If I wait for that one hour for my hair to airdry, then it sets better.

I don't necessarily co-wash in the AM. I just style and go. Every now and then, I might co wash (I never put conditioner on my scalp; just my hair) if I haven't got any idea what to do with my hair and so just want it to go wavy in the ends for a quick do. I usually follow that with an ACV rinse which involves dunking my head in the solution and massaging my scalp. I usually towel dry and let the waves fully dry on the way to work. The part containing my hair doesn't get wavy but I don't think it's such a bad look:
