I'm so confused. I thought that baggying meant keeping some kind of moisturizer in your hair with the help of the baggy. I thought that the purpose of baggying was to keep the hair saturated with whatever has been added to the baggy. So if you are dry baggying, are you really just wrapping your hair at night with a plastic cap instead of a satin bonnet? Wouldn't the results be very different for those looking for the traditional method?
That's what I am using on my braids now and I love it. I want to baggy but I am currently using MTG and don't want to offend people with the smell.
I do this all the time whenever I have twist in my hair. I currently moisturize with the African Pride braid spray and seal with castor oil and put a plastic cap over it. Moisturized hair in the morn.
The odor occurs after a few days baggying...say around night 4 or 5...this was a while back and i dont remember what i baggyed with...anyway im thinking about starting up again...using little braid spray and the hair softner (moisturizer) + lil bit of shea butter mix.
Nonie, so u bag without products?
I have synthetic extensions that werent braided all the way to the end ( a little smaller than pencil sized but not micros) and i have 2 apply products or else my hair dries out.
For those that baggy with products, is ur hair wet/damp in the AM bcos my hair is always damp in the morning.
how long does it take for ur hair to dry?
another issue i have with baggying braids is that my hair gets frizzier sooner, almost like im washing everyday...but I might have to do like Nonie and redo the frizzier ones without taking out the whole braids (which is kinda hard with FT work and school)
This is a really interesting thread.
I am in braids right now.
So you baggy overnight and then do you necessariy co-wash in the AM or you just sytle and go?
OK, you don't have to do it on dry if you're not comfy. But after I DC, my hair feels so soft that I don't want anything to ruin the feeling. When I baggy, my hair feels so moist in the AM.
I seriously think that if you applied something to the braids in the day, you really don't need to apply anything else before baggying. Try that. You will be so surprised at how well the moisture you applied soaks into your hair and leaves it feeling good.
When I am wearing my hair out, I use S Curl as my moisturizer. I only need apply it the day I wash my hair. After that, baggy nightly keeps my hair looking soft and fluffy. I braid it in the night w/o applying anymore and baggy. In the AM it feels so soft and moisturized as if I applied some more. I just comb and wear it out for the day and then plait it at night again before baggying. Seriously when you're baggying, there's no need to moisturize all the time. So baggying w/o applying anything should not be so scary. Especially if you had something on in the day. What's more, you just may find that you don't have build up by using less product. Undoing braids will also be a breeze.
