Wanna go natural?

i voted yes. I hate the process of getting a relaxer. And I like my natural texture. but what I don't look forward to is taming my hair and achieving a look I can live with. I don't like poofy, cottony, afro puffs. I like well defined waves and curls. I believe I'm going to transition but I reserve to right to texlax at any moment. I refuse to let my hair overtake my life:nono:

I voted no - I like my hair relaxed. I'm not making any statements with my hair, societal, ethnic, political, or otherwise. I like my hair relaxed because I think it's pretty. I like washing, and conditioning and roller setting. I like it soft and shiney because I know how to better care for it thanks to the lovely ladies of LHCF. I like everyone else's hair the way they like it, but the hairs on my head - yep, those a relaxed. Maybe one day in the future - all things are possible, but I seriously doubt natural hair is going to happen in my lifetime. Of course, several years ago, I didn't like artichokes, but I love them now :spinning:

i voted no as well. i like my relaxed hair. i like wearing it straight and it's a good look for me. it's not bone straight, so i also have the option to wear it curly if i feel like it... plus my hair is at least 2 different textures when it's natural. i prefer my hair to be one texture and i like that i have control over that.

I like the relaxed look, but I don't like the chemicals. I plan on going natural eventually. Not right now though, I'm just learning to care for the relaxed hair and I don't feel like transitioning or doing the big chop yet.

I have to say, "No."...been there and done that.

I'm texlaxed now and do my own touchups (4 times a year). I absolutely love the versatility of texlaxed hair because I can easily wear "relaxed" or "natural" styles.

My hair is relaxer-free so I didn't vote. I relaxed my hair for over 25 years and I made the transition 3 years ago. I don't think anyone should attempt to go natural without also transitioning their mind. It was 12 months of sacrifice (lots of bad hair days), dealing with short hair which I detest on myself, and then looking at yourself in the mirror and wondering who the hell that girl is looking back at cha, hell I even gained 30 pounds in 2007 because I was so depressed at how I looked! LOL Its not always easy, but with the online support groups it sure made it bearable.

Newflowers, this quote made me LMAO

Yeah, I totally agree. I've been relaxing my hair for at least about 12 or 15 years. It's time to take a break. I could not do a BC because I'm sure half my friends would think I'm going "Erykah Badu" on them and I'm not ready for that type of reaction. Transitioning suits me just fine for now. That way I have time to train my hair and my mind.

I do think natural hair is in my future, but right now being texlaxed is easiest for me :grin::grin::grin:

I love the look of natural hair, but I am NOT up for the maintenance. I'm tired of relaxers and thanks to this transitioning period Im in, actually starting to detest them. Anyhow, switching over to a texturizer seems to be a good compromise for me....but I am not ruling the natural way of life out either.

I have not relaxed since 12/30/2007 and I am loving my curls. However, I do like to wear straight styles that are not that easy to achieve with 4a hair. I opted for BKT and that worked well.....however it visibly wears off in about 4 - 6 weeks on natural hair rather than the 2 - 3 months that I expected.

My hair is in between SL and APL and I have about 3.5 inches new growth. I don't want to bc till have more length to the new growth. I see healthier hair in my trouble spots and am elated. BUT, I'm having problems styling my hair with low heat. Buns looks bad on me.:nono: No matter how much time and effort I put in the bun, it looks like I put in none.

Roller sets are great, but I was trying for a low manipulation style. My girlfriend tells me I need to keep my hair straightened to tame it, but won't that hinder my hair from growing? Plus it will put me at risk for heat damage.

I think I will just go back to roller sets for now. I am missing having straight smooth hair though. I know I could do it myself or even go to the Egyptians/Dominicans, but that is a lot of heat. I'm trying to think long term.

If I were to go back to chemically altered hair, I want to try a tex laxer first.

I really want to go natural. But straight hair is my forte right now. If there was some way to achieve straight hair without all the heat then I would go natural in a heart beat. Because it would just be a waist of time going natural then straightening my hair everyday. I'd be bald!

Besides, I think its easier for me to grow my hair out while I'm relaxed. Natural is something that I do want to do one day though...maybe after I reach my hair length goals??

I agree with every word. Same here.:yep:

I'm transitioning, but I don't look at relaxers as crack. I think the straight look, however achieved, is what relaxer wearers/flat ironers want, and it's easier for most to get that by using chemicals. I think most women would stop using relaxers if there was a way to achieve the straight look, not have to worry about reversion, and not have to restraighten every few days. JMO

ITA! BKT Gold has made this a reality for my natural hair.:yep:

I really want to be natural but right now I really want long hair even more & I want my length to show with a whole lot of extras. I am also worried about the very coarse section at my crown that is very wiry and harder to detangle yet more fragile than the rest of my hair. Texlaxing makes that hair more manageable. So right now I am trying to stretch my relaxer as long as possible and if that becomes a transition (with no BC) than that's great. But I am always waffling back and forth and I keep getting closer and closer to transitioning.

I am on my way to natural hair! I am thinking by January 2010- (10 months) I will be ready to BC

I am 8 weeks post and transitioning now. I'm excited to go natural - I'm tired of chemicals and want to see my natural hair texture. If I ever have daughters they will not relax their hair until they are adults and can make the decision for themselves. But I don't think badly of women who choose to relax their hair - how could I? To each his own, do what you want to with your hair! And I have to admit - I never really thought much about the term "creamy crack", to me it is the same as using the term "crackberry". (I'm one of those by the way, I'm on my blackberry now!) I can understand how some women would be offended by it, I don't use the term myself but I never gave much thought to it. Anyway we all have to do what's best for us. I wish everyone well with their hair endeavors!

Thanks for this testimony!! I know I will be shocked/stunned/ confused/ depressed after my BC :lachen:, but i am ready for the ride!!- Soo glad for the different resources available

I wish I could, but I have 5z, fuzzy, brillo style hair. No curls. *sigh* No natural for me.

My hair is the same way. I've been completely natural for about 10 months now and I wouldn't trade it for the world. The key is having the right products. During the first few months of being natural, I hated having to deal with my hair. It always felt too dry,too hard and when I would touch it,I swore I heard a crunch sound. But through trial and error, I finally found the right products for my hair and they have helped me to fall in love with my hair even more.

I want to go natural, but I need help. My last relaxer was in Oct 08. I have had kinky twist, and micros. My hair relaxed was shoulder length. I just took my micros out and my hair is horrible. It's thick and coarse. I have broken combs in my hair and it is so dry. How do I straighten it out without pulling it out? And I am not ready for the BC.

WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!!!!!

Moisture? Do a DC and see what happens!
How much NG do you have?
How long would you want to transition before your bC?

I have about 2 inches of NG. When I first washed and conditioned I guess I wasn't using the best products. I want to grow it out at least until I can have a little puff ball pulled back. I am in the military, so I can't walk around with my hair all out. I plan to trim my relaxer out gradually. I'm in the desert right now so I dont have access to the best products.

Relaxers are CRACK right?
We want to stop getting them,
but we can't for whatever reasons
... is this the universal consensus?

BKT's r WHACK!
Bad for the body..
Bad for the environment (aldehydes')
but we can't stop due to the undue new craze...

Stop tryin to humiliate those who make the conscious choice of relaxing thier hair. Your a hypocrite!
