Natural at the Job!

I had a question for all the natural sisters who work in a office, or just anywhere actually. How do you wear you natural hair and what do people have to say about it? I have a relaxer but I'm always open to going natural. Oh I would love to see pics!

My office is somewhat casual. I normally wear a puff or a twistout. But recently I've been wearing my fro.

I work in an office environment. I wear my hair mostly in a low puff or bun. I started off tieing my hair at night to get a slicker look, but now, I twist at night and pull back my hair in the morning. That gives it a full look which has been a turnoff to some at work. But they don't sign my checks, so...

I went natural in 07 when I was promoted and sent to a different dept and floor in my building. I found it easier to wear natural styles around people that didn't know me and weren't shocked at my short hair.

I change my hair so much - wash and go, ponytails, straight hair, twist outs, side buns - that my co-workers call me cameleon. I think it also helps that many women of color in my building have natural hair.

I am Relaxed. However, At My Organization, the CEO is a Sista and She sports a TWA. Hairstyles are not a problem. We have several Brothers and Sisters with Locks, Twists etc....... No Problem.

I work in a very conservative office. I get strange looks and a few comments about my natural hair, but I ignore them. I mainly wear buns, twistouts, or braidouts. A few times when I flat ironed my hair, I got tons and tons of compliments. A few people mentioned that I should wear my hair like that more often. Unfortunately, some offices feel uncomfortable with natural hairstyles. However, I feel like you have to feel comfortable in your own skin and know that they are the ones with the problem not you.

I just started wearing my hair out and everyone loves it, Most of the brothers have locs at my job too. And it not a problem either. Locs long as heck put my poor hair too shame. Sorry op no photos.

Same Here. Brutha's with Locs Long as What?? And the Sista in charge in a TWA But it's all good. As long as the business at hand is being attended to.

Hi everyone, at my job there's over 1000 people in the building. All races...lots of black people sporting their own natural hair, so when I took my weave down and wore my own it was no issue... I wear buns, braidouts, twistouts and ponytails to work.

Right now I'm in extension braids which I wear in any way a relaxed head would wear her hair to work: in a bun, hanging down straight, curved like one gets after a wrap, wavy from a braid out...etc.

I think you would have to "evolve".

Wear your hair "white" accepting a couple of years and then slowly transition.

You can't do it in one day as to where (blank) won't recognize you.

Allow them to get to "know you" and then slowly... very slowly become the natural you...

By the time that happens, they'll be so in love with your personality, they won't care WHAT your hair looks like

ITA! - I don't work with black people, but the white people love it. They like to touch it, they like when i wear it out in a braid. I either wear a scarf/box braids, twists or a braid/twist out. No problems at all. On saturday a co-worker even said that she has never done black hair (hair background is hairdressing), but she thinks my hair is like fabric and very nice. I was like grin: thank uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu, i was truly taking a back!

I've gone to court with a press, a wash and go, and braids with extensions. And about 15 different colors. As long as my written work and my oral advocacy are on point, no one cares about my hair. Every time I do something different I get compliments.

Wonder why the black people don't like it? Or why the white people do? From the black people I always took it as she needs her nappy head done, she ought to be ashamed of herself coming out with her head like that, etc. I'm not even sure why the white people like it. I guess maybe because it looks more natural/fitting on us? Or maybe just because it's so drastically different from their hair? Maybe they're just "exoticizing the other". You know people are intrigued by things that are foreign and/or new to them.
