Has Joining LHCF made any of you want to become hairdressers?

When I finish an afternoon of caring for my hair and my daughter's hair, I feel like I'm the owner of my own beauty shop!!! It's a lot of work some days, but, I love every minute of taking care of my hair!!! On a few occasions, I thought about doing hair for a living just because of the passion that I've built since taking on my own haircare endeavors. But then reality kicks in and I realize, for now, I just love doing it for myself!!!

How about you all, has your haircare savviness made you want to pursue a career in the haircare industry?:scratchch

YES!!! I wish I had chosen a career path in the beauty industry. It now a bit to late for me to become an all out stylist, but I'm hoping to own my own shop one day. My little cousin is in her senior year of undergrad but she does hair as a side hustle, I'm always trying to convince her to go into it as a career.

ETA: Smiley I LOVE your new hair cut. I wore mine like for years up until I found LHCF and decided to grow my hair out.

Sometimes, I think about becoming a hairdresser, and I'm still thinking about it, but I want to get my BS in Government, and maybe consider going to hair school.....but the thing is, will other women listen to my ideas and my suggestions?

Well, I certainly wish you the best and please go forward 100% with it girl!!! And you are right, we need salons that can incorporate style with healthy hair. There's just too few of them. Thanks about my hair cut. It was a big decision, but i don't regret it, now I can grow one healthy head of hair! I just hope it grows fast, I miss my sew in weaves.

I was a stylist, master stylist, platform artist and instructor for almost twenty years b4 I found this board. I don't do it anymore (well not on that level). This board keeps me connected and I love it!

But anyway, I haven't made up my mind just yet about cosmetology school. I've just been thinking about it A LOT and looking into schools. I want to go part-time. The classes are in the evening. The problem is that my job can be very demanding. I never know when I have to work late and my boss doesn't care if I have other stuff to do.

Then there's the pay cut I may have to take while I'm starting out and building a clientele. I'm just thinking through everything now. Its a lot to process. Especially since I'm an over thinker.

But... we'll see.

No way. Joining this site has insured I will never go to another salon! I was not a regular salon user in the first place, but still, I have a whole new view of them now. For me it's just not necessary. Anything I need done, I can do it myself, with the help of you smart ladies of course.

exactly my issues. my boss is cool about working around my schedule. only problem is i work in a restaurant. so i can't just say, "oh it's 4 p.m., i'm gonna clock out now," if i still have a table or have to finish up my side work. erplexed and usually i close lunch during the week (meaning i'm there till at least 4 p.m. when the dinner shift starts coming in) so i'd have to be one of the first servers cut after the lunch rush (around 2 p.m.) and i would be missing out on money there... then spend 4 hours in class each nite. and i'd lose my Saturday shifts altogether, cuz apparently you have to spend Saturdays in class (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) if you go part time. and that is a huge issue since you make the most money in the restaurant business on weekends.

I wish I went to school for chemistry, biochemistry or some type of science field. I think I would have been an excellent product educator, inventor, or cosmetology teacher.

Yeah, it has. So much so that I enrolled in cosmetology school a year ago. I already have my bs in criminal justice and a ba in English...but the urge to go back to school was too great. I took cosmetology in high school, but never did anything with it (Oooops wish I would have, could have saved 20K)

I started out as a hairdresser and was disappointed no one was interested in how to care for healthy hair back then.All they wanted was fried and died and laid to the side. I got a degree in nursing instead. This healthy long, black hair is the thing of the future!! Don't be surprised if you see high end corporate salons dedicated to our hair cropping up everywhere. Imagine, texlaxed or relaxed hair performed to to perfection.

I like doing others hair but I despise doing my own.
Maybe in the future if I have time for a hobby, I'll go to school for it.

Actually I've always loved haircare and wanted to be a hairdresser since I was a little girl. My mom was a hairdresser back in the 70's and early 80's and I used to love watching her work. That's how I learned how to rollerset and do manicures/pedicures. I also learned the art of bochinche (gossip)

I have been doing hair long before I joined LHCF. I used to get PAID in HS! lol But I dont do others hair as often now because I have other goals. Doing hair is a passion for me kind of but that alone is not what I want to do with my life.
Being on LHCF has given me a new love of all textures of hair and the want to make everyone around me take care of their hair. It would be a great career choice for me though as I am very creative with braided styles and sewin weaves, but like I said that alone is not what I want.

Nope because everything that I have learn thus far is wrong by their standard and I would have to learn how to do it their way. I guess unlearn what I've already learned. Besides I don't like doing hair. I just want to make sure my hair is done right.

I've always wanted to "do hair." When I was younger I did all my friends hair and lots of the guys around the way. As I got older I got tired of standing so I slowly weaned only doing my immediate family's hair. Its ALWAYS in the back of my mind though. When I see advertisements for cosmetology school I always pick one up. One day I will go. I like to have things under my belt. I already have a few trade licenses. And I yearn to do this so I know I will eventually have one in cosmetology. I think I would like to own a natural salon but I don't want that to be my long term career goal.

I've thought about it. Looking back I wish I would have taken it up as my major in high school. My education would have been FREE. I plan to own a salon/spa later in life though.

Yeah.. certainly not full time.. but definitely on the weekends. I enjoy doing it. I have always liked doing makeovers and making people look pretty.. so it fits. I couldn't imagine it paying enough to support my junkie lifestyle but it would be a cool side gig.

Hair has been an influence for me since birth. My grandma went to cosmetology school in the 50s-60s, my dad was a beautician, and my uncle and older cousins did hair. Ever since I been here ive always dreamed of owning a healthy hair spa and haircare line........
