The good and bad....
I'm in a hair rut and looking for a change of pace. BKT could allow me some additional versatility.

I ordered a sample of QOD Gold. It was around $35 for one ounce.

First I did a henna 4 days ago. Then today I shampooed my hair (which I dont to very often) with the clarifiying poo. It was a shock as my hair was completly naked.

I dried the hair and went to work parting out the first little section. The solution was thicker than I expected and I realized after the first section that it would be a huge stretch to get this little bottle to cover my entire head.

****lesson learned 1 oz will never do anything to my hair except make it even more thirsty******

I ended up appliying it more like a touch up. I applied mostly to the roots and then smoothed what I could down the length of my hair.

After a few moments I dried my hair again. I could tell it was coated (the best I could do) before I started to flat iron. I ironed each section 8-10 times.

I purchased a new flat iron the other day. I got a conair because I wanted one with tourmaline. I did my entire head with it before I finally thought my superstar was actually hotter. I don't know if either go up to 450 but the superstar was hotter. I went over the head once with the superstar (the sections were larger in the second pass).

My hair is not silky, shiny straight but I think with a few more applications it may very well get there. I will wait the 3 days to wash. Right now my hair is just THERE. Not staaight enough to be straight, not enough texture to be curly or wavy.

I hope that when I do wash my roots are less puffy. I will update with more photos then.

The plan now is to get a full bottle of bkt. I'm leaning towards Global keratin 4% next, and possibly a hotter flat iron.

I think my results were limited by not having enough product and possibly needing a higher temp for flat ironing.

I'm sorry you did not get the results you wanted. It took 3 ounces to do my hair, which is just past my shoulders. One ounce is definitely not enough for a full head of hair.

You flat ironed your entire head at the highest temp? Or only the roots?

You did all that flat ironing even though you didn't have enough product to completely coat your hair?!? I hope you didn't damage your hair. Let us know how it turns out.

I coated the roots well and stretched as much as I could to the length.
I pressed more on the root area.

judging from your fotki, the next time will have some really nice results. but i like how light and airy your hair looks, like it easily blows in the wind

Me-T,
Me and DD are ROTFLOL at your siggy pic!

I was expecting a lot of fumes. I wore the mask because it came witht the kit but I really didn't have a problem. DD said it resembled nail polish remover but no where near as strong.

Wondering if the henna interferred? I'm not an expert, just been reading and researching. I realize I'm not doing it until Aug/Sept, but I thought I'd chime in in case maybe it's something you might have thought about. Or anyone else for that matter...

Your hair is so full and beautiful, Lwilliams.

Your bkt results remind me a lot of my first treatment. You will definitely notice a difference after your first wash but you will REALLY notice a difference after your second treatment. Please see my fotki for my hair after the first and then my hair after my second. My second treatment (only 5 days after my first) came out so great I'm tempted to do another after only three weeks :spinning:. My hair definitely still has product in it and still feels awesome; detangles easily and all that... but I wonder if a third treatment so close behind will add even more silkiness.

A couple things that made the process much easier the second time:

- I did not blow dry my naked hair; I clarified, towel dried and applied the treatment. After that I blow dried til dry and followed with the flat iron step. I got this from Socali (BKT vet) and I'm very glad I did!

- I used more product the second time. The first time, I tried to make do with 2 ounces. I've heard you need less using QOD but I didn't really get a good coat til I used 3 ounces.

- My application method did not include a brush the second time around. I used a small-toothed, rat-tail comb that sat in the solution as I moved along. After I sectioned a piece, I would run the comb through that section. The excess would build up on the comb. I would then smooth the excess onto my ends and run through my hair again (removing excess). The comb would go back in the bowl and I would move on to the next piece. This allowed me such ease in application and allowed me to get every strand :yep:

I hope you do another treatment in a little bit. I think it would really set off your results. If you want, I could share my Global Keratin 2% with you. I have enough for 3 treatments, or so, left. PM me if you're interested.

Sheba1, You're awesome. Thank you for supporting Lwilliams and your uplifting comments.

I luv the fullness of your hair L~, and I know you are setting yourself up for phenomenal results the second time around. I just purchased QOD Gold, 2oz., i hope it's enough. Not sure when i'll take the plunge, though.

Sheba,
I don't know how I missed your post :wallbash:

thanks for looking out. The UPS driver should have my global tomorrow.
I picked up yet another flat iron yesterday so I should be ready.

Have you done another treatment?

I'm anxious to see your results after the second try now that we know you just need a little more product!

this time I used Global keratin chocolate about 2.5 oz but i didn't measure it out.

I could hardly notice any fumes when I did #1 using the QOD Gold. My 13 yr old said it was harsh when she walked in the room to check it out. This time I opened the window and had the exhaust going again and the mask on.

The fumes this time were too much for me to take. It was strong when I poured it but half way in to the blow drying I moved out side on to the back porch to complete the blow drying outside. I had a hotter flat iron this time and I think it made a big difference in the results.

I went over each piece about 10 times till it was shiny and didnt feel coated anymore. The next morning i added a tiny bit of sabino and went over it again in larger sections.

I have a 13 oz bottle so i will use it because i paid for it but if I continue I think i will go for a bottle of QOD gold due to the fumes.

half way through the first day it still feels straight but I think my ends need to be trimmed. I cant remember the last time i had my ends trimmed. To really see results I'll wait till I wash in a couple of days. I did order the leave in conditioner from gloabal kerain (it smells great) but I wish I got their poo and conditioner as well as i still havent settled on what i will use. After BKT #1 the HSR condish was fine but the HSR poo left me feeling stripped. I'm not sure if it's something in it or the fact that I've been co washing for long I'm not used to poo.

WOW!! I don't know how I missed this post!! I'm glad to see that you had better results with your 2nd treatment.

My ends also looked bad after my 1st treatment. I trimmed the ends before I did the 2nd treatment. It has been 3 weeks since I did my 2nd treatment, and the treatment is still holding up well!!!

Your hair look so shiney and soft...... Congrats on your results....

Beautiful, Lwilliams! Yep, I saw a huge difference after my second, also. Your hair is so shiny and silky... just lovely!

To the ladies that had to trim their ends...do you have to do it at every BKT or did you just have split ends that you ignored because you were natural before, and did not see them until you straightened your hair?

I was really checking out your results. LOVELY.
Did you say how you are wearing you hair daily now?

I'm thinking about 1/2 inch trim. I'll suck it up and do it after the kids go to sleep.

thanks!

you know taking that conair 'thing' back to the store was a PLUS.
I KNOW that thing was no where near as hot as it said it was supposed to get.

Now I need to nail down products to use with it. HSR condish seems to work well as usual but i think I should suck it up and either order a BKT poo or is it possible to cowash??

thanks!

So far, I've only had to do it after the first one, as my hair was hardly ever straightened and had many single strand knots. :nono: Since my trim, my ends are fab, 3rd bkt and counting :yep:

That's great! I was wondering about the heat on the ends...but I guess the BKT is protecting everything perfectly.:yep:

I like mill kreek biotin shampoo. It has keratin third on the list after water and biotin. It's SLS free, ph of 5.5 and great ingredients. I shake up about a tablespoon of it with some water and amla oil in an applicator bottle and squeeze it through my scalp. I only do that once a week or so. I go between that and co washing with Vo5 clarifying shampoo. It's safe for color treated hair and doesn't cause build up. I love it. My hair is never stripped feeling and my bkt lasts, at least, 5 weeks. I like to PS so I imagine I could go longer than that. :)

I think so! So far, so good

You hit it on the nail, I had to trim because I'm natural, and hardly ever wore my hair straight. Once my hair was straight, I noticed that my ends looked horrible....

I had a weave in for two weeks. I just took it out yesterday. I now have my hair in two plaits. I like to baby my hair whenever I take a weave out. I'm still surprise by how straight my hair is....
