I didn't know that this board could turn into fight club.. lol. I just finished reading a post about a newbie asking if any mixed girls were on the board and whether it affected hair growth( or something to that extent, don't quote me). Boy Oh Boy!!! I dont think all of one person maybe might have answered her question. Ladies its OK to ask questions!!! i mean seriously Why pay 6.50 to come on the board and post questions if your going to have other members shoot you down. every1 has the right to state their views, but dont knock them for the questions they ask. Remember @ one time all of us were putting grease in our hairs, and werent using some products b/c we thought it was for white hair only, but thats why were up here to learn. I myslef know I can learn alot more. I guess Im just tired of the self righteous attitudes.

I just realized what I wrote!!! Oh shoot lemme get ready and break out the vaseline and hair scarf. LOL!!

I don't think anyone would dispute that people are free to ask questions, I wouldn't be here otherwise, but at the same time individuals should also be prepared to be challenged on their opinions or at least consider a differing point of view.

Knowledge is power. :)

I think that is just the way of message boards. Some have more turmoil than others, but I don't think that i've ever seen a message board where there hasn't been a war of words.

When people disagree on things, sometimes it is bound to get out of hand. Also, some people tend to forget what they were doing before they learned better. There are ways to tell a person they aren't doing the healthiest habit. Sometimes people can come off too blunt and abrasive, and that opens up the gates for an argument.

Lol. I totally agree--I think that I commented on the same thing. The girl even begged not to be attacked. Where is all this hostile estrogen coming from. Instead of giving examples, they told her about herself. I leave that alone.

Being challenged is not a problem, but telling the girl how long she has been here is inappropriate and insultive comments doesn't really get your point across. Mocking or insulting a person doesn't help. I totally agree with you that people need to express their opinion but seems like these same people that are the "hair police/hair mom" think they need to express their insults(which still doesn't help the person). :nono:

I think if you paid your 6.50, you should be able to ask all the questions you like.

But...

Everyone, especially newbies, should first take some time to get to know the culture of the board and then do a search. Don't just jump in.

If you can't find the time to do a search first, then don't get upset when you only have 2 replies to your thread or someone posts to tell you to do a search.

I mean I had to stop reading the post . it was getting way outta hand!!! Sometimes it goes way beyond healthy debates and difference of opinions. Some peolpe make it seem like they waiting for you by the elevator, ready to get 'cha.

But this isnt a research paper either, its a forum where questions and topics can be brought up. If i had to research a topic, and get a feel of culture before i posted a question.. i'd be annoyed and fed up with the board. Where's the fun in that????

LMAO.. Its something that needs to be addressed quite often! I dont like being Harassed by NYPD & I do't think we need to be Harassed by the Hair Police either!! That's my story and Im sticking with it. LOL

I advise people to do a search because it is beneficial for them. You can find out so much more information by doing a google search that takes 3 seconds instead of waiting for days and days for folks to answer your thread because you asked a simple question like "what is cowashing?".

Here's how. You want to know about coconut oil? Type in to your google search box: coconut oil site:longhaircareforum.com. Hundreds of threads will come up.

I mean seriously, it's not a research paper, but it is your hair. And I assume people join the board to learn about their hair and how to take care of it. We definitely can't do the job for you.

The girl that did the question only posted about 50 times which means that she was not frequenting the board as much as us. Furthermore, learning the culture of the board--it would take approximately 200 days before I could ask a question because there are approximately over 3,400+ posts. Good luck on reading all that for a newbie!!! Second, even if you did a search, it doesn't yeild the exact results you are looking for everytime. I have experienced that with particular searches that I have been doing.

I think that people should be able to express their feelings without the WWF LHCF Smackdown. I think I am going to order my helmet from amazon.com because of the head injuries one will get from joining this board. It is not only that girl--people on this board have shot down a youtube video of a beautiful girl calling her a gremlin(When I have have seen their profile and it didn't look as good as this woman with her hair and I will leave the other comments I am thinking alone). Gremlin had nothing to do with the fact that she had excellent hair and other unnecessary comments.

I've been on this board over a year, have thousands of posts, and yet have started one thread. ONE. But I have learned a ridiculous amount of stuff about haircare. Why? Because I read and search all the time.

When I first joined, I didn't just jump in my first day. I read lots of threads and researched. That gave me a feel for the board and it didn't take 200 days or 3400 threads. And after that I started posting and asking questions in threads that had already been started.

No, a search doesn't necessarily yield exactly what you are looking for every single time. But most of the time people admit that they don't even do a search first. And seriously, I do google searches all day and I get back so much information so I know it's not necessary to start a thread EVERY SINGLE TIME one has a question.

All I'm saying is, searching isn't difficult. Reading isn't difficult. Search and read a bit before jumping in and do a search before you ask a question. At least you'll be prepared for some of the answers you may receive.

And doing a search will turn up information you hadn't even though to ask for or links to sources or whatever. Searching is so helpful. People need to do it more.

And what's the excuse for when people post links that answer the question and the original poster doesn't even read them?

I posted a bunch of links in that mixed thread and other people took the time to answer her question and it seemed like she didn't pay that any mind. And that's happened time and time again. That's why people get told to do a search.

I have actually fielded through several posts myself but I am assuming from you have a research background and you are thinking that would be the thing that "everyone should do." Not everyone wants to hit the search button--fielding through stuff. How many posts have we seen on co-washing even from people that have been here for 3 years and this question has been answered? How many posts have we seen asking for recommendations on moisturizing conditioners for 4 a/b? I think because it was a sensitive subject "certain people" took the opportunity to take out their day's frustration.

If a post is so sickening, there is a back and close button, people should use these God(or High Source) inventions.

Also, if you are really busy and work 17 hours a day or in school, that is too much time. When I first started my hair journey, I went sleepless for 3 days and had to report to work which was horrible and do mental work.

Eastern. If we already have 20 something post @ 230am. just wait till the rest of the board gets to work in the morning.. It'll pick up around 9am, settle down , then get really busy around lunch. OK..OK.. Maybe 1pm Eastern time.

I agree people shouldn't expect to be insulted or mocked publicly but unfortunately, that is the way of the world, and it happens on internet fora - I come to expect it. There will be always people who want to offer unpopular opinions or views. We all have a myriad of thoughts and opinions, but the way one person chooses to express their view may not be appropriate to others.

That may not be right or fair, but I think it shouldn't surprise anyone when it happens.

My question is why everything has to be a debate?

Why does everything have to be over analyzed? Why can't people read before they post?

Why do people have to find an offense with virtually everything?

Why can't people use the search funtcion.

Why do their have to be multiple threads about everything?

Why do we expect new people to read through 20 pages of a thread to find the answer to a specific question?

Why does it seem that there are always people stiring up controversey?

Why do people feel the need to be in the middle of every controversey?

Why?

You are right I think maybe we should set the time limits a little bit more wide: 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The smackdowns will begin and the comments will be original like "I need to watch my tone." I will be told something about myself inventive.
