I'm thinking out loud...again...LOL!

After reading someones post I'm realizing that not only are SL but my current length (1/2 inch past bsl) is also hard for me to get past. I wear my hair down about half the time and noticing I'm sitting back on my ends, caught in my car door and even the window on occasion etc. So I think I'm going to cut it and start wearing up until I guess MBL (??) then I won't be sitting back on my ends :wallbash:

As the hair gets older it needs more TLC...so TLC it is! I need ideas other than buns, got that covered! Are banana clips hard to find these days, any suggestions on brands?

Listening...

Aloha Pixel Lady,
for me it was getting past APL that was a son of a gun!
I finally got fed up and wore braids for a year to get past APL.
To protect my ends now, I do buns, pocahontas braids with the ends tucked in and pinned up behind my ears and high ponytails.
And when I do wear my hair down and out, I'll wait until I get to my destination and then let my hair down.

I cnt get past NL for nothing. Well I had lots of setbacks so I guess I know why :(

Protective styling seems to help a lot of people.

Hello and thanks ladies!

Yeah a high pony is good...guess I will break out my caruso's! What are Pocahontas braids, please?

Getting to MBL from BSL is hard for me. There's no real spot to measure at like there are for other lengths so I keep questing myself.

Girl, your hair rocks!!!

Yeah, I wondered about that too! Where is MBL? Is it a certain distance from the bottom of BSL, or above WSL? I dunno:rolleyes:

Yeah, I'm feelin a high curly pony right now! This may be my saving grace, I will know when I do it tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm struggling to get to WL from BSL now.... It seems like it's taking forever! I just installed a sew-in to help me get over the hump.

I also wonder where exactly is MBL???? Is it between BSL and WL???

Keeping my fingers crossed that my longest layer will reach WL by mid-June for my 30th birthday!

Here is a pic of Gwen S. with the pocah up-do braids I'm talking about.
My niece will do my hair like this and it will last 3 days!

MBL is just that...middle back length. Wherever the exact middle of your back is, that's where MBL is. Depending on your height and the length of your torso it could be between BSL & WL, or it could be at WL, or after. It just depends on the person.

Yeah, seems so simple...LOL! But color me confused...oh maybe I will measure from my (ummm from where neck or hairline) then to my waist and half way would be MBL?

You measure from the top of your spine to the bottom of your spine...so start at where your neck meets your shoulders...and end where your back meets your butt...that should be pretty accurate...half way between that would be the middle of your back.

You may find that MBL is the same as natural waist (which is where WL is measured) for you...or not. It's the same for me because I'm tall and have kind of a high natural waist.

Gotcha and thanks! I'm going to measure right now.:yep:

Okay, I measured and my spine is 18 inches. Measuring my hair from the top of my spine down is 12 inches...which is 1/2 in past the bottom of my bra strap.

roflol is MBL shorter than BSL? Or maybe I need to go to Macy's and get my bra on right...LOL!

So what length am I? Hmm...I only need 6inches till WL???!!! IDK, my hair doesn't feel that long.

That is my problem... Idk where I'm at because since having my daughter my bra now sits at a completely different place from when I took my last progress picture... (which happened to be when I was pregnant).... now my girls hang so low it seems as if my bra strap meets my underwear:lachen:.

I must be tired because I can't stop laughing at either one of us :lachen::lachen:

Look, don't let me start claiming MBL...cuz if one person says I am, I'm claiming it!!!!:lachen:

I'm a bit confused...if your back is 18 in long then MBL would be at 9in. If your hair is already past that, then great!

I guess MBL could be shorter than BSL, depedning on where your bra falls. Normally people wear their bra too high, as opposed to too low. That's why I don't go by BSL, I go by BSB, below shoulder blades, because that's a measurement based on a part of your body, unlike BSL (which is really subjective).

WL is measured at your natural waist...the part where your torso curves in...not the place where most people wear their jeans.

Let me see if I can find the picture of the measurements...I know it's floating around here somewhere.

This makes total sense!I am below shoulder blades (don't know how much yet). Thanks for looking for the pix!

Oh, where the torso curves in...let me go do this again! I really appreciate all your help!!!

I hope this works...

I guess it's really hard to see...if you google "hair growth chart"...and look in the google images...it should be in the first row on the right hand side. If you do look at the chart they have the waist pretty low, but it gives you a good visual representation. And they have MBl at the bottom of the bra. Which is fine, but it really depends on the person.

Thank you! After looking at this and with your help...I think I may actually be MBL! BUT I'm tired so I will review all of this tomorrow before I go claiming something I'm not...LOL!

For me, it's taking FOREVER to get to APL, i've been "almost there" for at least two months and i'm getting frustrated. Like pinkskates said, i think i'm going to have to braid my hair up for a while to finally reach it

Thanks for posting this thread. I agree with the earlier posters who say that BSL to midback seems to be challenging. I'm noticing that the things I used to do don't work as easily, such as:

*No combing - since it's longer, I'm finding that it's harder to wear it down and not get super-duper tangles. My stylist recommended that I part my hair in two sections each night and gently run a wide-tooth comb through it to reduce the tangles each day. I was a little nervous about doing this (after having such great retention from not combing), but I'm trying this new nightly routine because I don't like the excessive hairs that I've been losing when wet detangling after a week or more of no combing.

*Dusting - I feel like since my hair is longer and the ends are older, I may try dusting monthly rather than doing less frequent trims. I got this idea from Tracyee, a young lady on this board who went from APL to WL in a year. I figure that two dustings would be equal to or less than a standard trim, but we'll see.

I've been waiting to move past BSL since Nov. 2008. I get my annual "growth spurt" in the summer months, so I've been considering getting a sew-in or wearing my hair braided under a wig so I can keep my mind off of my hair and truly let it be.

Let's keep the faith ladies! We'll all get past these slow spots very soon. :-)

Hi Pixel, a lady that I work with that has WL hair puts her hair in two pigtail braids while she's sitting at her desk to keep her ends protected. Whenever she's walking around outside she lets it down for a wavy look.

For me, MBL does not exist. I am high-waisted (I guess), so right after BSL, I will be at WL. After WL, I'm at HL/TBL.

Be careful of the high pony tail. Be careful not to pull the hair too tight as the sides of the hair may weaken, not to mention the hair at the crown. I had to learn the hard way with that one.
