Burn your hair that falls from your head. If a bird gets it and uses it in his nest, you will have headaches for the rest of your life.

I heard the first portion of the bird thing - didn't know about the headaches though!

Trimming your hair often makes it grow very fast.

Tight braids and cornrows will make your hair grow faster.

Don't ever wash your braids or weave or your hair will fall out

If you take shed hair and put it in dirt the hair on your head will grow like a plant would.

My stylist said that putting vinegar on a freshly washed hair would get rid of dandruff. The woman would always pour vingear on my head right after a perm...Talk about my head burning.

I heard you had to burn your shed hair because of you dont someone could use it to do voodoo on you.

yes, I've heard of that one too. the voodoo thing.

Don't wash your hair during your menstrual cycle b/c it will fall out (from my mother).

At least it wasn't Listerine. :look:

LOL! My grandmother used Listerine and the brown bottle Lysol for just about everything!!!! The brown bottle Lysol she even suggested to use in "the" personal area - Yuck! Loved my grandmother crazzzzzzzyyyyyyy much, but some things I did ignore!

Is that why many hair braiders insist on braiding entirely too tight, they're following the old wives tales? Naahhhhhh, they just don't know any better!

I heard that one in terms of increasing menstrual cramps - same for washing your hair! Of course when I gave birth to my first child my hair needed to be washed, very badly! The nurse must have thought I was crazy when I asked her if there was any harm in if I washed my hair so soon after giving birth!

I always ignored my mother when she said that. She used to be pissed when I'd go to the salon during my cycle.

Don't relax your hair when you have your period... hmmm what else.

Yep I heard that one too. No chemical treatments while you are on your cycle cause your hormones could cause adverse reactions. Hair falling out... relaxer wont take. etc :lachen:

Water will dry out your hair, that's why you were only suppose to wash every 2 wks or more. It wasn't that harsh poo (lye soap) or frying your hair with a hot comb sitting on the fire - NOPE -water :D

:lachen::lachen::lachen:

That ^^^ Was so FUNNY! I almost woke my SO!

My godmother, a very educated RN with multiple multiple medical specialities still says it's true ...we learn to ignore to keep the peace!
