I LOVE fingerwaves, classic fingerwaves, soft and big with a pin curl comb out at the end. It looks sexy. You do them with styling lotion or mousse, after they set you comb them out, they are the type from back in CASABLANCA days. I love it. I use to wear the soft ones in 95 with them combed out in Cosmetology SCHOOL. AND YES I WAS DAMN CUTE!!!!!!!

Ya gotta admit though - when the fingerwaves were out - there were some that looked pretty d*** good!!! Especially those with that tight wave pattern and shine - not the ones that were scratched up after about a week ...lol

I agree once a week passed they use to lose their SHAMWOW effect!

The classic soft one i can handle them

the lady I'm sitting next to right now at work wears a "freeze". Her hair is BSL in back and cut short on top, like mullett. She's mid 50's and a general soulful mess.

When I was at physical therapy a few months ago there was a lady in her mid-40's with some fingerwaves with purple glitter. I was like :ohwell: I had some back in 95 or 96. My grandparents have a HUGE pic of me above their fireplace and I have some. I look like some kinda crazy dinosaur. :lachen:

I like those too but those aren't the styles I see walking around here.

I think those freeze hairstyles are a southern thing. I went to NO for vacation and it seemed like every black woman had gelled hair with a ponytail attachment or some other freeze style.

Yeah I'm originally from the NO and yes they are big on the freeze style.

If you mean, 30s 40s and even 50s hair, then yes - that era was lovely and a very sophisticated time in general for hair. I think it's more the rock hard slicked down with a whole tub of gel look which is the main theme on here! :lachen:

Ya'll need to quit laughing.

I remember this girl who grew her hair from ear length to APL just by doing those finger waves. I realize now that they were great protective styles. She went to the salon about twice a month, had it done, then the hair stayed like that, unmanipulated until the next salon visit. There was ZERO manipulation, so her hair didn't break and she kept all her growth. I would have done the same but I hated the entire look. Plus there was no way I could go 2 weeks and not wash my scalp, I would have serious itchies, and there was no way I would pay a hairdresser everyweek to do my hair.

Here are the fingerwaves...going see if i can find some freeze curls

Whenever I did it my hair was always dry. I couldn't moisturise the hair at all so I didn't retain a darn thing. :(

There is a man at the shop where I get my hair done. I love you Flowers McKnight. His name is Geno and he is known as the King of Fingerwaves on 63 & King Drive. In fact he was doing a few whilst I was there having flowers deep condition and do my every quarter trim. Yep he is the KING of the fingerwaves. I thought it was just a Midwest thing Chicago Detroit

:yep:

I love classy vintage looks. I am weird like that, my SO is like I seen an Vintage styled dress I thinked you'd like and usually I do. I am like Perfect honey. I love Pearls over my diamonds due to the elegance of it. I am crazy like that.

Let me 1st say I luvs me my black people but we need to get with the times. I went to my grandfather's funeral Thursday past in Gloster, MS (one hour south or Jackson MS) and I have not seem so many finger waves, freeze curls and gel french rolls in my life.

Please explain to me why a gold ring has to be on every finger you have???!!!!

Anyway it was any experience to go back to small MS town.

Now you KNOW the answer to that already :lachen:

I am from Jackson, Ms, but been in MD for 20 years. (I am 33 now)

When I go there for a family reunion or something, I so see people rocking styles that were either out a long time ago, or never really chic to begin with.

But that is one of the things I actually respect about our country. You will see changes in styles and variations of what is "In" all over the place.

Most people will imitate what others are doing to fit in with others in their area though.

It would be harder for me, if I had to live there though. It would be like going backwards. But, like I said, I respect it - with a chuckle of course. :giggle:

I don't truly mind seeing a little Madame C.J. Walker Doo unless it's got gobs of crusty, dandruffy-looking grey crap in it, like they first got it done in 1985 and still holding onto it.:lachen:Now, that's nasty. And please....no gold tooth to go with it. OMG! Sometimes, I look at AA's and think, "are these folks crazeeeee?" Honestly! Compare the stupid styles (not all, I know, it's a culture within a culture) you see, i.e. nasty dirty hair un-styles with purple men's suits, orange alligator shoes, gold teeth, loud brash behaviour and a swagger to match, perhaps 3-inch acrylic nails with weird designs leaving anybody wondering how you clean yourself after a bm and STILL manage to work at a restaurant????...and I turn and RRRRUUUNNN the other way. I love AA's, all AA's. But sometimes, I just want to shout from the rooftops, "less is sometimes more!"

*Those* finger waves pictured don't look bad at all (the orange hair colour is, uh, interesting, however). I'm really curious the other styles, especially the pineapple. I thought that would be some kind of huge bun with spikey ends, but I found a pineapple tutorial on YouTube that seems to be something else altogether.

I like 1920's style finger waves (I love vintage fashion & hair from the 20's-early 60's), but not the kind I used to see on the black ladies at my dad's church when I was 10. >__>

They got their own flavour of ghetto. As we all do cause my people ain't no better Cause Habesha people Lawdie be. But I do lot of work in the Latino community and this is what I notice with certian people Rings on every finger. Black lip liner, Sharpie drawn in eyebrows hair stiff with gel long or short 10 piercings on each ear and arses Sqoozed and stuffed into the tightest outfit that you can wear even some of them though look like Spongebob Squarepants from the neck down.

Lean like a Chola

Eeeeepah!!!! You mean, lean like an RV. LOLOL.

I'm originally from the Kansas City Metro and when you say pineapple, I wanna puke. Those and other freeze styles were TOW Up from the FLOW Up in K.C. Nasty! I dunno, in the Midwest, they must have been seriously lacking.

I think they are coming back...especially with all the retro looks some of the celebs are wearing...I admit I would wear some soft looking waves if I could figure out how to do them but the ones that are all plastered to your head with all that gel is a no go:nono:

Your right they are, I've seen Eva Diva with some soft ones, and they were looking hot, I have also seen a few other celebs rockin' waves, but more so, softer than they used to be.

ok i do remember you saying that...please try to make the next one
I really wanted to come...but I had to work..my son was sick..so I had to trade my weekend ( that I specifically took of to see y'all) and work.

I'm going to do my best to be at the next one - PROMISE!!

my in-laws are from Prentiss, Ms. They live in Hattiesburg now but, they love to go home and visit the family and they have lots of land in Prentiss. One street is named after my Father-in-laws people and the cross street is my Mother-in-Laws maiden name. She said that's how they named the streets there, by who ever owned the land they were on. I like visiting but only for so long...I run out of things to do.

I am in Natchez this week - And I have seen very different hair than that of Jackson.....

Oooooooooooo weeeee.

I have seen a lot.

I actually saw an acquaintance that I had not seen in years a few days ago and she had the pineapple head, finger waved style! It looked really horrible. It was a wig or weave that was finger waved. I did not know that it was possible to finger wave fake hair/extensions? It looked like she had applied mud to her head, it was so thick. It almost looked like a cartoon caricature. I was with a co-worker and my co-worker was asking me what she had on her head. I swear this is the worst hairstyle I have ever seen. I frown upon people taking pics of other people and posting them online without their permission but after seeing this ladies hairstyle I really wanted to take a pic and post here. I did not dare though!
