Hey Ladies,

I was thinking the other day that I really negelcted my hair a long time
before I started taking care of it.....during my teens I would just not even bother..I am 21 now and its only been about a year that I really started to take care and listen to my hair.
I am deffinitly seeing a difference already and this board(you ladies)have contributed alot towards my healthy hair!

So how hold were you guys when you decided enough is enough something needs to change???

OLD!

I was 25...and now I'm 26! Most of my teenn/early adult life my hair lingered around NL-SL...and I was so upset because I loved and wanted long hair so badly...So when I was old enough probably about 20...I discovered a sew-in weave and it was on!

I wore weave non-stop for 3-4 years...I had a really good one...everyone thought it was my hair! I was one of those people..who said "As long as they make weave...I'm cool"...Then one night I was talking to this guy on the phone..who asked why I wore weaves...which I kindly explained to him...He went on to say...."Well...I guess that makes sense...because your hair will never be that long without it."

Why did he say that????? It's been on ever since...I have officially been weave-free 7 months and have made nice progress!

I feel you !Your hair looks very nice in your siggy:)

Well, I am pretty sure I always thought I was using healthy hair practices, lol.

I finally started my journey when I was 21 (over the summer), but I really did not start getting results until I found a regimen around November (I was 22 by then). I really wish I would have found LHCF when I first went natural. I would be WL by now for sure.

I am glad that I am still young though. I can end up living most of my life with long hair. I am also glad that my future daughters will never have to know the stereotype that Black girls can't grow their hair long. :)

22.

I saw a difference the first night I clarified, did the 2 step protein and DCed. My hair was softer and more NOTICEABLY moisturized than it ever was. EVER.

:sekret: I started my HHJ after my 35th birthday. I'm 36 now and my hair is stronger and healthier now. My ultimate goal is WL.

I started my journey when in 2005/2006 when I was about 17 during my 2nd transition (I was relaxer free for over a year when I relaxed again at 16). I didn't really get serious until about 2007 when I was ~18.

I could still kick myself in the butt for not continuing my transition when I was 15...my hair would probably be past WSL now *sigh*

I started when I was 23 and how I'm 24, and my hair is stronger and retaining length, and looks good, and it's actually growing faster.....hopefully I'll be at my goal by 26 or 27.....i'll be 25 this year.....

Mine started in December of 2007 when I went from hair that was about 1 inch or shorter in some areas to EL after about a year of sew ins. I was amazed. Then six months later I had a bob. Just six months later I was at SL...for the first time in life!

I made it to SL but for some reason I have this mental block in my head that this is as long as my hair can be because APL and BSL seem so unreachable.

But I'm still trucking along. We'll see where I am in December 2009.

I started at 19, I am 21 now. I started seeing results like 3 months later, but it was easier to see it after I got my first relaxer 6 months post.

I started my HHJ around the age of 25 back in 2004. To me, healthy hair was going to the salon faithfully every two weeks. lol I got SERIOUS about it Dec 2008. I've been loving it ever since! :-)

i started when i was 23. i will be 31 next month. i used to do and buy so much stuff, and i would keep my hair cut all of the time, so i wasn't really thinking about growing it out. when i got serious about it, i started doing research and i had a stylist and program that was really simple. i would just wash/dc, moisturize, and limit my heat usage. i would get hairstyles that were not hair and simple. that helped me a
lot. now i am learning how to take care of my natural hair. my goal for my natural hair this year is apl. once i make it there, that will be another example of once i set my mind to do something and be serious about it, great things can happen.

I started my journey at 27 (sadly enough), and will be 29 next month. I had basically no clue what I was doing with my hair prior to that point, and finally began educating myself and realizing that most of what I was doing was wrong! Finally I began to establish a regimen which made sense, and have stuck to it pretty faithfully. The length picked up slowly but surely, but my hair's strength and health began to change extremely quickly. I'm hoping to be WL by next year at this time. It's amazing what a bit of knowledge can accomplish! :)

When I was 16 I joined NaturallyCurly.com and started to learn how to take care of my natural hair and then I became a member of LHCF. I didn't seriously start trying to grow my hair until I was 18.

I wish I started in my teens or twenties. However, I am in my thirties and finally once again have healthy shoulder length hair and I do not have to wear wigs or weaves anymore unless I want to. I love taking care of my hair and not leaving it up to a stylist!!!!!

:iloveyou:LHCF

I was 17 when I found the board and really started on my journey

I could say that I started as young as 14. I read Shamboosie's book and washed my hair twice a week with DC, and stayed away from relaxers because I felt it was bad for my hair. But I used heat wayyyy too much...

I think my hair will be where I want it to be by my 21st birthday (im 20 now)

Hey Queen V! I feel ya girl :) I started heavy on this site at 27. I just turned 28 a few weeks ago so I'm a late 20's starter too! Wish I had known even half of this info early into my 20s. I've wanted long hair for so long. It makes me sad to think that I may not reach my goals before 30 :(, but I figure better late than never! And hey, long healthy hair is fly at any age ladies!

Y'all are makin me feel OLD. I started last year at 38. I finally have healthy hair and am retaining length. I wish I would have known sooner that this site was here :(

Ugghh, I am such a failure. I found this board about 4 years ago when I was around age 16. I incorporated a few healthy hair practices but for the most part, I didn't do nearly enough to retain length. I got serious last year, when I was around 19. Now that I am 20, I even more serious but I haven't succeeded in reaching any hair goals. My first goal is BSL. Hopefully, I can reach it by the end of this year. But my hair IS healthier. That I can't deny.

18. I'm going on 21.

I really wish I would have started this journey in high school. My hair would be so much longer and healthier. I'm just now seeing the heath because I'm finally taking it seriously.

i found this board in january of 2008 but didnt really start taking care of my hair until mabe april or june of 2008. i started seeing results right away. i went from just under sl to past apl and almost bsl in less than a year.
eta: i started at 21 and im now 22

I started at 18 in sept. 07. I just turned 20. I dont remember when I saw a big difference..I guess a month later or so.

I started January 24th of this year. I'll be 29 in July. I never really thought about having long hair before this board. I just wanted to learn how to rollerset so that I could stop wearing my hair in a ponytail. It wasn't until this year that I decided to really grow my hair long. This is the first time that I've ever taken care of my hair alone. I deep condition wash and set my own hair and it feels good. I'm looking forward to great progress. I started seeing results after a month of healthy hair practices. I can't wait to post my 6 month update.
