"Nice hair for a black girl"

I have a white guy friend and one time we were talking about something, and eventually the subject veered onto black people. So of course I used the term "we" when talking about this subject (because I am black) and he just looked at me strangely for a while. He eventually asked me "You consider yourself black?" I looked at him like he was stupid and said "Of course I consider myself black" and he said "well, I never considered you black." :huh:. He didn't mean it in a hurtful way, but I still was kind of offended by this. Since when did being black be a bad thing? It seems that the term "Black" or "of African descent" has become synonymous with ugly to some people. I happen to think that we black people are a very beautiful race, so I never understood why some people would think otherwise.

This is sad but true. I hear people wanting to make pretty black girls "mixed with something" all the time

I even had a guy tell a friend of mine that he knows i'm mixed but I just won't admit it. :nono:

Yeah, I HATE that. I've actually had people argue with me over this. There's nothing wrong with being mixed, and there's also nothing wrong with being black. If you're pretty, you're pretty!

This thread is so interesting and eye opening. I don't try to analyze my demographic anymore. It's too intricate. It makes my head hurt. When I was younger, and I felt bad because people would ridicule me because they said I talked "white," I did, when I had just been raised in a black private christion school. I've learned to shrug it off. I actually laugh, now, and am very appreciative of my speech. I know I'll be able to make it in places other than my current environment. In time, I believe these generalizations will be like compliments to you all, too. It makes us unique, and gives us a chance to inform some people of their ignorance. All of you all are so erudite and beautiful, that I have been in utter awe while reading these posts. I hope when I graduate college to speak and behave like you do, because your posts have really inspired me. :grin:

Up until recently my hair was to past my behind curly and when straighten down to my knees. People use to actually Pull on my hair to see if it was a weave. There is no way on G-d's earth even If I only had on strand of hair I would have gotten weave that long. IT is a mortgage payment almost. I got the remark so much it would make me cringe. The nerve of people. And I don't like people I don't know touching me. Especially (no Offense Intended) some of our colour challenged people who never washed their hands after using the bathroom

Wow, it's sad to see so many people having complacent attitudes about racism (at the beginning of the post). No wonder White people think it's okay to make these comments. There are too Black people who actually take them as compliments and not the racist insults they are. I wish a honkey would.

:rofl: :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

Go sit doooooown somewhere! :lachen::lachen::lachen:

What did I miss? I never know what's going on. I wanna laugh too! :blush:
