Thank You Irresistable! I Will NEVER Dry Flat Iron Again!

This may be the case but it has worked for alot of people for along time so the research may need to be updated.

Wow, I saw the original thread and I'm still shocked people are flat ironing wet hair. After I read the damage that heat does to wet hair, I vowed never to do spritz my hair before applying heat, let alone doing it on wet hair . (I haven't used a flat iron since July 08).

Maybe the strands they were testing were from users who weren't putting a heat protectant on. I too am scared to try this damp flat ironing thing but my curiousity is getting to me.

:yep:
LOL. Your husband was probably like...I know you aint acting out online....LOL...too funny. I've had this same screen name since early high school.

Its funny that people can pick my out by my dialog. I do the same thing with other people on this board. Come back home to Obama Nation soon!

Thank you for your compliment. Research and try it out. You wont be sorry.

You're welcome!

So, I tried it out lol. I did a ponytail rollerset last night that well, lets just say I wasn't impressed with my work that time lol... I was planning on flatironing the roots but got distracted and left it as it was... So I sprayed my hair lightly with some leave in and water to dampen it...Flatironed my whole head, And BAM, it came out great I must say

Thanks for sharing

Curiosity got to me too and I did it :lachen:. Test out a section first and see how you like it.

I do this all the time too. Only I just lightly blow dry on low with a diffuser to let my hair dry about 80-90%. Then I flat iron with a low heat - 274 degrees.

Comes out AMAZING. My hair is the healthiest it's ever been. Pics in my fotki of the after with this method. This is the only way I flat iron.

man i give yall props cuz i'd be afraid i'd burn all my hair off. :lachen: im curious what the effects of doing this often would be tho.

op ur hair came out lovely!

I can't believe this. If only I had seen this thread yesterday.
I lightly flat ironed my hair after 3 months yesterday and I would have tried this! Knowing me, I would have done the shortest sections of my hair first, just to test it out as I would be scared it would fry my hair.

Nope! I just used my Sedu. I was too lazy to rollerset. I apply Aphogee Green Tea, some Aphogee Pro vitamin just to the ends, and Biosilk heat protectant just a lil. I applied some Chi to just the ends of my hair as I sectioned and flat ironned. Wrapped and applied lil Aveda Glossing Emollient to loosen up the hair a bit. Came Out Fantastic.

And I have a Sedu too! :wallbash:

it happens to me too when I get a blow dry or flat iron. The hair for some reason sticks to itself at the ends, the individual strands just stick together. Its really annoying when you try to comb your hair and it upsets that swang

Yep! I blow-dry before I flat iron and always have this problem.

We should call it damp to dry flat ironing instead of wet to dry. I love this and I do it anytime I flat iron. There is alot of misconceptions about doing this, but it's much better than flat ironing 100% dry. I will never flat iron dry hair either. I do it when my hair is about 70% dry with my iron on 350 (I have a kiyoseki iron). I always use Chi Silk Infusion or other heat protectant and do not have negative results.

Thanks for the post.

I assum it would be the same as flat ironning dry hair. Damage regardless. :lachen:

But I see it like this....leaving the hair slightly damp will allow your hair to retain a bit more water because its not already completely dry on the surface. Hence why when you're done, its much softer than normal.

this is the way that i learned to flat iron. i didn't use a flatiron until i got to college in a town where there were no dominicans and i could not get a doobie for cheap to save my life. so i started going to AA salons and i listened to them scold their clients, "do not blow dry bone dry!" and my new friends at school said the same thing. so i blow dry 'til damp or air dry 'til damp and then flatiron. i get ridiculous moisture, shine, and swang. you don't even want to see me bangin' and swangin' my hair around because it's obnoxious!

i knew that these stylists were on to something when i saw on of the steelers' (i went to school in pittsburgh) wives come into the salon (she has a standing appointment) and get her hair done. she was black, had lightened honey blonde hair, and got it flatironed once a week!!! and her hair was slightly above APL. she was fly and so was her hair.

so what i'm trying to say is that healthy hair can be had while flatironing. and i'm glad that this thread is up because i've been missing my chi, and i think i'm about to stop this while airdrying nonsense and go back to having silky swanging hair with catch free ends.

I wasn't saying that it didn't "work" for others. Their hair may look wonderful but that doesn't take away from the fact that it is damaging their hair. :nono:

Ya know...Now that I think about it, this really just all makes sense. :spinning: I'm now in the market for a new flat iron...I just noticed that the paint on the plates or whatever is coming off, it WAS a gold-n-hot ceramic iron...Heading to Sally's for a Chi or Fhi or whatever knock off lol.

Could be but I wouldn't want to chance it. I seriously doubt putting a heat protectant and flat ironing on wet hair (at its most vulnerable state for breakage and damage) is going to stop the damage in the long run.

Is this done on relaxed hair or natural or can it be done on both? I've seen threads about this method but have been afraid it would damage my hair.

go ahead girl!:yep:

it's making some more sense to me that eliminating the blowdryer would reduce heat usage AND mechanical manipulation for those who use a brush or comb attachment with blowdryer. while hair is damp it hangs and more and thus decreases the need to pull hair with a brush or comb.

Also, for those of you wanting straight flatironed hair with minimal damage. i let my hair air dry 80 percent, but the roots never get at dry as the ends because it always covered. so i lightly blow dry til it's as damn as my ends. THEN i take my one inche CHI and grab a 1/2 inch sliver of hair. (1/2 by 2 or 3 inches) and clamp down on the roots for 1 second (count one mississippi) then let cool. then i clamp at the roots again and slowly glide down the hair 1 time. YES, JUST ONE TIME! and the i move on to the next section. This keeps my roots fairly straight and ensures minimal contact time with heat. I do not go over any sections more than once. I'm able to get straight hair this way because the sections are so skinny to begin with.

I would be so scared to flatiron my wet hair.

Maybe if I did not use my iron so much, but I am a regular flat iron user. So, I must do it with the UTMOST care to prevent damage.

I guess I better stick with what I know. This reminds me of back a few years ago when I was interested in how shiny and straight someones hair was after using an Andis dryer with the comb attachment. Every one was raving about it. I tried it and ended up chewing my hair up after 2 or 3 months.

I won't get any ideas this time.

At any rate, your hair looks really pretty! :yep:

I tried wet to dry flat ironning last night and I am SOOOOOO impressed. My hair is soft, my ends arent sticking together, and my wraps dont come down looking like crap. Most importantly, my ends arent sticking TOGETHER...did I already mention that? My hair is so shiny:grin:, and loooks healthier after the wrap. I will never air dry or blow dry to flat iron again. :drunk:

Thanks Irresistable and all others that posted wet to dry flat ironning post. I have finally found a technique that gives me soft and truly swinging hair.

ETA Posting pics...

Girl your hair looks great! I'm so happy it worked for you, it really does make a world of difference :yep:

Maybe I should try smaller sections because my hair is so thick I have to go over it twice.

I am relaxed and its works fine for me. Its been two days and I havent gotten the urge to shampoo and throw my hair up yet. I am loving how soft and flowy my hair is.

Is this done on relaxed hair or natural or can it be done on both? I've seen threads about this method but have been afraid it would damage my hair.
