I tried wet to dry flat ironning last night and I am SOOOOOO impressed. My hair is soft, my ends arent sticking together, and my wraps dont come down looking like crap. Most importantly, my ends arent sticking TOGETHER...did I already mention that? My hair is so shiny:grin:, and loooks healthier after the wrap. I will never air dry or blow dry to flat iron again. :drunk:

Thanks Irresistable and all others that posted wet to dry flat ironning post. I have finally found a technique that gives me soft and truly swinging hair.

Are you using a special wet to dry flat iron OP? I havent done it in a while but I did like how my hair felt afterward.:)

Nope! I just used my Sedu. I was too lazy to rollerset. I apply Aphogee Green Tea, some Aphogee Pro vitamin just to the ends, and Biosilk heat protectant just a lil. I applied some Chi to just the ends of my hair as I sectioned and flat ironned. Wrapped and applied lil Aveda Glossing Emollient to loosen up the hair a bit. Came Out Fantastic.
 
what do you mean when you say your ends "stick together"? and how wet is your hair when you iron it and how hot is your iron?

I tried this for the first time the other night! It came out awesome, took less time, and I actually think thats less heat than I would normally use.

Yours looks great!
 
ok. Now i'm finally convinced about the benefits of wet to dry straightening. I have the same issue with my ends whenever I try to flatiron after airdrying overnight. Your hair looks beautiful!

How wet was your hair and at what temp on the sedu? I think i'm going to experiment with this soon.

Your hair looks great! I flat-ironed my hair while wet on Thanksgiving with my Andis tourmaline/ceramic wet-dry flat-iron, and it came out great. My avatar pic is when my hair was flat-ironed for that day.
 
I would like to try this method for the one time I straighten my hair this year (my graduation). Please give more info!:grin:

Is this done on towel-dried hair, just a little damp, or really wet?

it happens to me too when I get a blow dry or flat iron. The hair for some reason sticks to itself at the ends, the individual strands just stick together. Its really annoying when you try to comb your hair and it upsets that swang

Does the size of the flat iron matter? If it does, what size do you have?
 
I'm glad to see others are trying the wet to dry flat ironing. I've been using the T3 wet/dry 1 " for over a year now and love it. A friend told me it would kill my hair but I only do it a few times a month on natural hair. It seems to me it would be awesome on relaxed hair because I think some of the moisture is sealed in.

I prefer having my 4a/b fine hair damp rather than sopping wet out of the shower. I've tried using my Solia but I could'nt get as close to the root because there are no vents for the steam (ouch) but it can be done.

My hair seems to keep more life and is absolutely soft and silky and most important, It didn't kill it and still gained length. I guess finding the right setting helps too.:yawn:
 
Sorry for the late response.

It was damp, not wet or dry, just in between.

Stick together as in its like the cuticles are up and they stick to together like my hair is tangly but its not. Like I cant run my hands through my hair without it getting caught. Now it can go thru easier.

I'm seeing the pics now PFANB, your hair come out beautiful and very shiny!

And to anyone trying this please be careful as you go up towards the roots, the heat travels up and it hurts, I'd recommend on damp hair.

I dont know how its normally done but this is what I did:

  1. Wash and DC
  2. Rinse hair with Aphogee 2min on ends and Roux Porosity (sp?) Control for about 5 to 10mins, rinse thoroughly
  3. Spray in (about 4 to 5 sprays) Aphogee Keratin and Green Tea and Biosilk Thermal Shield to ends. Put Aphogee Pro-vitamin on ends too (just a nickel amount).
  4. Heat Sedu to about 380degrees.
  5. As I section to flat iron, I put a tiny tiny bit of Chi Silk Infusion on the ends of the hair.

Damp but a little more than towel dry damp. Hair will sizzle as the heat hits the hair. Dont worry it will stop once the water evaporates. You may need about 3 hits with the iron to get it the way you want. One to dry, one to dry completely and styles, and one more (optional) if you need to get the roots a lil better.

There is a trick to the roots I use to reduce the steam melting my scalp. I take the top flat iron plate, tilt it at an angle on the hair, and slowly smooth out the new growth while drying the roots. I do the same thing with the bottom of the hair section. Prevents the steam from burning you scalp.

I've done this twice more since my pic in my avatar.

I probably won't ever flat iron my hair dry again. My hair isn't wet though just damp. I wash, condition, then let it air dry some then flat iron. I know what you mean about the stuck together ends or just the ends looking clumped...I never have that problem doing it damp.

I know right. And isnt it so much soft and moisturized? Not kinda dry and to add insult to injury the ends stick together so your hair just doesnt feel good at all.

Yes! It's like moist and heavy. It just lays/behaves too. I love it. I get the most compliments on my hair when I do this.:yep:

Hi PrettyfaceANB...Three things to say to you :grin:.

First ANB are my intials and my husband was walking past my laptop and seen the name, it stood out because of the intials and he was like what in the world are you doing with a name like "PrettyFaceANB" on an online site LOL. So he thought that was me, and was wondering what I was up to :lachen:,

Second, I knew you were from The MD/DC/VA when you stated in the above, "I know right" LOL. I'm also from there and I miss home, although MI is nice, we've been here for about 6 months and we plan on moving back in the next 6 months.

And Most importantly, your hair looks great. And I'm researching the methods online so I can try it out for myself.:grin:
