It is for me because of thickness and also i know naturals that have hair that is "trained" and it looks like that. Honestly where i currently live and in other places i have rarely in real life meet a black female that relaxes and has both healthy and thick real hair. I know its lhcf, but irl i dont' see it nearly as often as say natural who presses every two weeks.

That makes me think pf an experience my cousin had recently. She started going to a new stylist and he told her that whoever was relaxing her hair was relaxing the life out of it. He said no good stylist does that anymore, that is old school relaxing.

I thought that was funny.

I do see plenty of ladies in my area with thicker relaxed hair though.

On two different occasions I have had people tell me they thought I was natural and pressed. Nope - relaxed like the masses, but my hair is still thick (albeit still short :look:) so it must throw some off.

I know its true, i just also know trained hair can look the same. When i was relaxed some ppl still said my hair was thick and didn't know i had a pcj or beautiful beginnings! Anyway her hair looks healthy.

I would like to know too - the only hair I heard could be trained is men's hair when they are trying to get waves by always brushing it and wearing a doo-rag

lol-sounds like my BF..he has a mohawk with waves that he maintains as if his life depended on it. Gosh do I hate it when he wears his doo-rag-Why go through all that effort with you hair only to cover it up??? :spinning:

i'm confused now there is stuff saying she is natural and other stuff saying she is relaxed.:perplexed
did someone release a fake story cause she can't be both

i'm gonna say possibly relaxed, or maybe tex laxed lmao? Just imagine how much she has to get her hair done, i'd say she's relaxed because of convenience but probably has been natural at one point. I'd assume every public appearance she was getting her hair done, and that's A LOT of appearances, so just imagine dealing with all that heat applying, and then after that with the chances of your hair reverting. she HAS to be relaxed, and if she's natural i will be very very surprised

Chicago ladies, they're having a one-on-one with Michelle's stylist on Fox News @9.

(BTW, she is relaxed)

I heard and read that she's natural but presses. Im not sure if she wears her hair straight all of the time but she sure does when in public.

she looks relaxed to me....and SBH uses the word "natural" as meaning they dont wear weaves or wigs...not "natural" where one doesnt chemically relax. Usually when they ask a celeb if she wears weaves they'll say "no I wear my natural hair, Ill only wear weaves for a special occasion"

I always thought she was natural simply because her hair always has some height in the roots, so I assumed her roots were never pressed straight. I don't think I've seen her with super straight roots that lie flat. But I do believe, after the article, that she is indeed relaxed. It doesn't matter anyway, she wears it straight 100% of the time.

Maybe...one of you members who live in D.C., could sneak pass the secret service with a bucket of water, pour it over the First Lady's head, and that will put this great debate to rest.:spinning:
Her hair looks healthy and pretty whether it be relaxed or natural and heat-straightened.

Well to me her hair has only started looking nice when it got closer to the election. Before she was looking like a frizzy haired Condoleezza Rice wannabe. Now she has a stylist and her hair looks like its in better shape. I can tell you that MO is good at hiding her hair. I've seen pictures of her at the beach. She has her hair wrap up looking like she's about to break out in some African Dance (the bright towel she uses as a sarong doesn't help). On other days when trying to go incognito she tucks it under a cap. Should it really matter whether she relaxed or not. Obviously she doesn't want to tell.

She. has. told. that. she. is. relaxed.

Summary of the two articles: Rahni Flowers did her hair for about 26 years and refers to her hair as "chemically relaxed". Johnny Wright did her hair for an Essence or Ebony layout; she called upon him again while she was on the campaign trail, most notably for her speech at the convention. He does NOT state whether she is natural or relaxed, just how to "recreate the style". (So I guess we go with Nonie's info.)

I tend not to pay as much attention to "recreate the style" interviews, because we've all seen those given by Bey's stylist. The instructions never start with "apply your lacefront wig with glue...."

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:TOO. TOO. FUNNY BUT TRUE! You don't know how many times I would read Hair Hype, not realizing they left that part out!

She has alwas had the same stylist for the last twenty plus years. Maybe they started doing something different to her hair, but you aren't the only one who has mentioned this. I can tell you she will pull that hair back in a ponytail in a hot minute. LOL!

I can't believe this thread is still going :lachen::lachen::rolleyes:

*COUGH*: I'm just REALLY glad that she has gorgeous, healthy hair: being the President's wife/First Lady and all :look:!

Look's like it has also grown pretty well in the last year or so:

(aaah!!!!!!!!!!)

So, what I'm saying is, I don't really care if she is relaxed or natural :look:.
There is a lot of conflicting information out there. If she said she's relaxed, she's relaxed :clapping:!

Her stylist and the media say she's relaxed. My gut says she's natural with great products, a smooth press, and a few tracks to help her achieve the swing. It doesn't matter if shes relaxed or not. She has achieved a style and look that fits her beauty and is uniquely hers.
