I bought Henna dye and was planning to color my hair this weekend but my friend said that it is very drying. Is this true? Should I use a rinse instead?

Did you buy real HENNA (actual powdered henna leaves) or henna dye?

Just making sure you researched this before using henna. I've read some horror stories about people buying dye that says henna on it, but it's commercial dye or mixing their henna with the wrong things.

Henna can be a little drying. Think of it as having the same effect of a light to medium protein treatment. A good DC and a good leave in should solve that problem.

Henna is drying, but so is semi-permanent rinses. Some people add moisturizing components to their henna. Check out some of our member's henna recipes.

I add honeyquat and glycerin to my mix and add conditioner on top of the henna after the dye has been released (it loosens the henna from the hair which equals quicker washing and softer hair). I then follow henna with a deep moisturising conditioner and never had any problems with drying
