I switched from the D4 to the D83, which seems to work better for my hair at this point. I do get splits, but I have no clue if it's from the Denmans or not. I feel like I get more splits the less frequently I detangle though.

I'm not giving up on my Denman 3 yet but boy did it rip out some strands!!!

On second though....I give up! I don't like it!

I don't ever notice it ripping out my hair...
there are hardly in hairs in the brush
when I'm done... it's just that I'm noticing lots
of split ends and have no idea if it's the Denman.

Sometimes when people say they have a lot of splits or even a noticeable amount and everything else looks fine, I start to think it might be their brush. I have had most hair problems, but splits has never been one of them. I see splits on average on one hair every 2 months. And I pretty much never brush my hair. I went years without brushing. Recently I started using the Goody every now and then and I saw 2 splits in 2 months and was about to lose my mind!:lachen:

I use it on my daughter's hair and I detangle in small sections after first detangling w/ a wide tooth comb from the bottom up to the scalp.

Only because I was acting a fool when I was using it. I was not working from the ends up and that caused the problem. It was nothing severe though. The denman does far more good than harm for me. It grabs all of the shed hairs that cause knots and tangles. It has made a huge difference.

On my son's hair it can cause breakage if I don't put the right products in his hair, but I do notice that more hair is in the brush than using a comb so I don't use it in his hair that much anymore. He has 3a/b hair.

The Denman will tear your hair up, at least it did mine. I noticed a lot of short hairs that weren't there before so I chucked it

I think I'm going to hide it deep deep in the closet of
hair tools that I can't use anymore...

I was anti- brush until I found out about the Denman...

but now I think I'm going to return to my anti-brush roots...

I might use it every couple of month but definitely weekly or daily.

I am noticing split ends and I hardly ever use heat...

I went a whole year without trimming and don't have

ends as bad as I have now that I'm using the Denman...

I don't know if it's the Denman for sure, but I'm going to stop

using it for a couple of months and see what happens.

We've seen a little damage from it. Depends upon the texture of the hair. Ours tangles very easily, even when passed through to untangle...it'll just coil right back up like never been passed through. Denman is great for natural hair but if it's very tangly, might not be. We also section the hair. I find we have to use conditioner and leave-ins before using the Denman.

Incidentally, I discovered the wonders of the Denman before I knew there was one. It was the Vidal Sassoon brush way back in the day. This is the only brush type I've used since then. For my relaxed hair, I never brush dry hair...never. Only wet and only after products are applied, like a butter, leave-in liquid, condish etc.

The longer my hair gets, the more ineffective Denman is for me because the ends are uneven and longish/more tangly. Pretty soon, I'll only be using the rake comb for detangling and I've already taken the advice of those who propose shampoo for scalp only. All in all, I've found that a lot of my hair damage past shoulder was due to keeping the same detangling methods for shorter hair. I was pulling it out whereas for a shorter bob, I could just whip through it. No, not everything works for all. I'd say, "chuck it."

I have a love/hate relationship with this brush also. I love that it removes the shed hairs but it also take out healthy hairs. So I don't use it as often.

However, I have the D3 and I think my hair may be too long for it now. I'm going to upgrade to the D4 or D83 and see how that works.

ETA: I have had success with this Denman brush (D6). My stylist @ Salon Revive (Aveda Concept/Ethiopian stylists) use it for detangling at the bowl and during roller setting. I purchased mine from Whole Foods.

I love my denman d3...Best detangler for me..I use it to detangle my hair in sections while in the shower, I experience little to no breakage...and I'm a 4a/b natural. :)

This is an interesting thought, I wonder what people with long hair do to detangle vs people with shorter hair...

I used mine the brush I was transitioning and I ripped out lots of hair. I used it after my BC and it worked great. I have not used it in about three months. I'll try it tomorrow and see if is beneficial.

I don't think I've noticed any damage. Right now I only use the brush for removing shed hair after I wash. It does nothing as far as detangling for me so I detangle with my shower comb first, if I don't the brush pulls and snags my hair very badly.

I used to use the denman for styling my wash n' go's but not anymore....it shrinks my hair up way too much.

This is what I need to get to the bottom of. I only use my brush on wash days which varies from once a week to every two weeks (like now :S).
I'm going to trim today and track my splits going forward...
Oh man it's going to take me hours tonight to trim off those bad boys!

I don't like it

And all the fans who say "Oh you're not doing it right", everything doesn't work on everyone's hair.
I've tried to work with that brush and there is no way. I think my hair strands are too fine to use it.

I think you might be on to something. I love the Denman, it detangles and gets rid of shed hairs. I almost never have single strand knots but I do have splits. And I don't use much heat at all.

i never use this brush. the teeth are way too close....much like a comb. i only use super wide tooth combs on my hair, and rarely use brushes. i smoothed down my hair while in shower with my hands and wrap it with a scarf...and its smooth for a few days.

for touching up, i simply add water a little leavin and smmoth hair with hands...no denman brush for me!

I haven't noticed any damage but I use it as my secondary detangler. I first detangle with my fingers or wide tooth comb THEN I move on to the denman. I also don't use it for every detangling session.

I have not noticed any damage from using the Denman brush. I have been very careful to use it on hair filled with conditioner, in sections from the bottom up.

I also have used it to smooth down my hair when making ponytails.

I love the Denman.

No damage, just the removal of a lot of shed hairs.

I have to be careful when using the Denman, can't rip through my hair with this thing.

I stopped using it when I saw how much hair was coming out of it... and yes, I used it properly. Didn't use it enough to get any noticeable damage.

Yalls must have much stronger hair than I do. Denman + Neith = :nono:

SOUTHERNTEASE YOUR SIGGY PIC IS AMAZING!!!

I didn't realize the Denman should be used a certain way. What is the proper way to use this brush?

Not particularly sure if it "damaged" my hair, per se. It's more like it ripped out more than I wanted it, too, and yes, I did use it correctly. It did give my hair nice definition. I think it's a bit much for my hair, but I may take it out and give it another try since my hair has grown a bit. It's been months since I used that brush.

The Denman didn't work for me. It worked better on my sister who is relaxed...

I wanted it to work so bad, but too much hair would show up in it for me to keep trying:ohwell:....
