I can't leave it alone... I went a whole year without using a brush...
but ever since I got this thing...
it won't leave me alone...
I think I'm going to have to throw it away...
or start a no brush challenge...
challenges are the only thing that stop me from doing bad things
until I get used to not using it...

i dont think it gave me any damage. I use it about once every two weeks and i use tons of conditioner when i do use it. I used this brush every other day when I wore WNG's in the summer but didn really see any negative affects.

Okay, when I first saw this thread, I was cool with my Denman brush. But in the past few weeks I have been noticing split ends like crazy!!! I've never had so many split ends like I do now! In the past I have had dry ends (due to neglect), but I have been working hard to keep them moisturized and there were doing good. Now, my ends are all split and have single strand knots. Is this the work of the Denman??!!!! :wallbash:

I thought about this thread when I found all my splits (posted about them in my blog). I have no idea if it was the denman though. I only use it once a week.

i found the denman (d3) too hard to use on my dense, tightly coiled, natural hair. no matter what i tried, it just didn't work for me. i think basically it's too wide for my hair type.

I've since found the denman d12 which i think is the ultimate detangling comb for natural hair:grin::grin::grin:: http://www.sallybeauty.com/Denman-D12/SBS-103012,default,pd.html?cgid=Hair10

to use it, i spray my hair. finger separate a row of hair to detangle, (about 1 inch thick 3 inches wide, or smaller). then starting from the tips. i detangle in small downward strokes/sections towards the root. this comb has definitely allowed me to retain my length, and minimize knots & tangling.

it allows me to detangle thoroughly and safely without damaging my hair. before i would have to detangle with a wide tooth comb, and then use a finer tooth one. now all of that work is done with one comb.

unfortunately the last time i checked, denman discontinued the d12,:nono: but thankfully, sally's sells the denman online, and in the store has a generic version which looks & works just as well.

sally's also sells one by mebco, which looks similar, but it didn't work as well -- the coating on it came off over time, so i wouldn't recommend this one.

I used it to smooth out hair after washing, worked in sections and althought I took my time brushing in sections, I still had some hair inside brush. Probably won't use to much during transition.

The bristle part is sliding away from the handle part so my hair gets caught in it and RIPPPP. Before that it worked great. Oh well it's been about 3-4 years so I guess I should be happy.

I can't use my D3 on dry hair, only on wet hair and I have no issue. But I detangle first with a comb. The Denman boar bristle brush is too much for my hair though. It's a great quality brush, but too strong for me.

When I was natural, I would section my wet hair and use the brush that way. I don't use it all the time except to brush my hair out and that's after it's been detangled.

After this thread, I decided to slow down the usage. I'm detangling the good ol fashion way with my bone combs. The large one doesn't do much for me but the medium one better. It's not as easy to detangle that's for sure.
I slowed down in case the brush was causing icrease split ends...

When I use it all I see is shed hair. Also not that much hair is left in it anyway. Im still clueless to how people get better curl definition with it but its great for extra detangling. I use a D3 not the D4 brush that many curly heads rave about. That could be why I dont get the curls. Again no hair breakage to my knowledge.

I never use mine..but tonight I decided to...I brushed out so much hair....I never comb out that much when I detangle when wet.....I won't use it again anytime soon...I will try it after I BC...people here rave about it....but if it does the same thing then its not for me

It feels so good to section off my hair and massage my scalp with it I discovered this once by accident LOL.

I always look at the brush after usage and I usually see nothing. I even detangle wet hair in sections with my Denman and I typically see nothing unusual or concerning then either.

I use it on mine and my 2 of my daughters hair, works well for them too. They are 3A one has really thin hair and the other has really thick hair.

Which Denman are you using? I have one for detangling and one for smoothing and I love them both. I've used them on wet hair, dry hair, conditioner in my hair, I must say I really love these brushes. Sorry you have to put yours on punishment in the closet. :lachen:

I think I'm going to hide it deep deep in the closet of
hair tools that I can't use anymore...

I was anti- brush until I found out about the Denman...

but now I think I'm going to return to my anti-brush roots...

I might use it every couple of month but definitely weekly or daily.

I am noticing split ends and I hardly ever use heat...

I went a whole year without trimming and don't have

ends as bad as I have now that I'm using the Denman...

I don't know if it's the Denman for sure, but I'm going to stop

using it for a couple of months and see what happens.

:nono: As long as I detangle on wet hair (loaded with conditioner), in medium sections, I'm fine. Don't know how I'd survive detangling w/o it.

although this is old... you're scaring me
i'm wondering if the modified denman has the same hellish results?

I use a small denman D1 to detangle hair in shower. It works well when hair is saturated with conditioner but I get excellent results when I detangle during oil rinse. I also like the way it massages my scalp. It removes more shed hairs than the shower comb. I start at end in small sections and work up until I can brush entire head from root down. My hair curls up (natural type 4) so it does not help shrinkage ... but it feels good.

When I was using it, I noticed mid-shaft splits so I stopped using it. I don't think brushing and my wet hair were a good combination.

i have one, but it't collecting dust somewhere in my room.

that brush was created by the devil himself. wayyyy too rough for my taste

:nono:

i have a fake denman (by conair), and i realized it's rougher than the true denman:eek:
serves me right to be cheap? :( i keep getting split ends! barely ever had those when my hair was relaxed, so it must be from all that rough brushing.

I'm looking into alternatives.

Yes. I've noticed a lot of splits since using the Denman. I get the same detangling effects of the denman without the splits with my Revlon brush.

Yes! oh yes. When I was natural, I use to use this brush, cause everyone raved about it on youtube and things. But I noticed when I detangled, I lost like aloooot of hair. I thought it was just shedding cause I PSed all week w/ buns. Fast forward to like a month later, decided to relax and when I detangled that week, w/o the denmen, I lost like a couple of strands. Luckily my hair is naturally very thick so no one could really tell. I threw that brush away and never looked back.

Welp...please PM me if you have ANY Denmans you'd like to permanently banish from your hair arsenals :) I'll GLADLY pay for shipping and then some :)
