Being Natural Is Not That Serious...

It's not serious or a big deal to me either. I'm natural for my own reasons. Not to make a statement or anything. I do appreciate my natural hair though and like it a lot. However, I wish that it wasn't a big deal for someone to want to wear their natural hair instead of straight all the time.:perplexed

I use to look at that site when I was learning about doing my hair and I remember reading a thread about texlaxing and it made me so sad. One of the reasons that I got so into hair boards like BHM was because I really appreciated all the sista love.

When I saw the disgust that these women had for women who choose to text (they were saying that texlaxing is an attempt to look like you have "good" natural hair, trying to fake being natural, etc - seems like this makes them more mad then straight relaxing) I felt reall hurt at the thought that my sisters could have such negative feelings about me simply because of how choose to do my hair.

So ITA that going natural can make you catch it from many people, but are there relaxed heads that hate natural heads because they are natural? What's up with all this mess?

If you have a problem with someone based on how they do/wear their hair then you need serious help...IMHO

being natural is serious. being natural isn't the norm and generally naturals have to constantly defend themselves. when someone talks about something that was God-given in a negative way, it does become serious. i'm natural and have been for a little while now and it is hard being around people that don't accept my God-given texture. it is hard being around people that try to make me feel ugly for something that i was born with. like i said before, if hair was just hair and no big deal, do you think this site would exist? people with natural hair get treated like an art exhibit. it is right up there with skin color, big full lips, big butt etc... you can try to change those things all you want and slap a relaxer at the little bit of new growth but at the end of the day your are still a nappy head black person.

all through my life up until adulthood i was told that natural hair was ugly, unkept, and wild looking. that was the reason why i kept going to get my hair straight. nobody told me that hair is just hair and that i could do whatever i want to it. so again natural hair is serious, but i don't think it is that serious to bash someone about whether they want to wear it straight or not.
i think straight hair is nice looking, and a person can rock some really great styles with it. see i'm a person that doesn't like boring hair and in order to have cute straight hair, i have to take to many precautions to make sure i don't damage it. that was way to much work for me. natural hair is so free to me. i don't worry about combs and brushes, flat irons, blow dryers, wraps, etc... i don't do any protective styles to my hair. i just wears styles that i want to wear and they just so happen to be safe for me. sorry about the long rant, but i just had to put my five cents out there!

Being a black woman is serious b/c it seems you can't win for losing. D*mned if you do, D*mned if you don't. You'll catch hell for being natural or relaxed....

ehhh...

agree completely:yep: being black is hard enuf and a woman to boot...i'd rather worry about who's going to be the next president of the United States and the current economic crisis and what state the world will be in when my children are adults...

it's NOT that serious...(and I'm transitioning and want my hair natural...)

She's right i'm tired of people ready to stone u because of how u wear your hair. Do what works for you and don't be mad at what works for me. Like another video where they were ready to cut a **** cuse she uses grease, Crap like this makes me so sick.

:orders:NO MAN is going to tell me what I should and should not do with my hair unless he is going to do my hair EVERYDAY. Let's be real only one person is responsible for the maintenance of your hair and that is you. So that being said going natural is something that I choose to do because I dont like what the perm has done to the texture of my hair and I want to be chemical free.:gorgeous::reddancer:

I just hope I am successful. I am currently seven weeks post.
