Is this okay to do? How about adding a spoonful of oil to my deep conditioner as well?

I've heard that oil on the hair is bad while flat ironing. Does that only go for oil put directly onto the hair, or oil that is used for treatments and would be mostly washed/rinsed away?

Everyone around these parts are saying that flat ironing with oil is like frying your hair in hot oil! :burning: That's scary...

I trust you though! I'm gonna try without putting the oil directly on my hair just to see how it comes out :yep:

yeah imagine all that heat on brittle dry hair, crisp it right on off!

trust , many of us never bought into that and still use oils :yep:

for me it does, keeps moisture in more , and is easier to work with than dry hair ,they also said wet hair boils and form bubbles, then later there were 'wet to dry' flat irons....I been told I had that 'bubble' hair years ago :lachen:

who are 'they' anyway :look:

:dighole: haha

and thank u girl, no worries the oil will be fine

I pressed my hair with staight shea butter before  years ago, it was SOFT and moist, just a lil greasy lol

It's pretty! :spinning:

So doing it on damp hair doesn't hurt it either? Does it make it come out better?

Who knows? I don't see any bubble damage there!

Looks great!!!

okay! no bubbles anywhere! and thank you girl! :sneakyhug:

I never got the big difference in blow dryer heat to dry or pressing comb heat to dry , I just never made the connection to what the difference was , my hair retains way more moisture without a blow dryer :yep:

I agree that it won't hurt. I don't slather oils straight on my hair right before I flat iron anymore, but I do still is use treatments with oils and butters beforehand.

A month or so ago, I flat ironed after rollersetting with oils and butter treatments and what not in my hair. I but Cantu Shea Butter Leave In, mango butter, and a little vitamin e oil and grapeseed oil as a heat protectant in before the set.

The hooded dryer made all the oils melt and even with all the direct oil, the flat ironing was just fine. My hair still had movement, was soft, bouncy, and shiny. I can't post pictures right now but you can look in my july fotki if you want to see. As a matter of fact, that is what my profile picture is from.

I flat ironed my hair wet sometimes years ago and it was fine. No damage from that. I also used lots of oil for my flat ironing and roller sets... Like dripping in oil... :lachen: but that was one of my hair's healthiest points before hair boards. :)
