I know people stretch a piece of their hair to check their length( I do too.) but I am wondering if this is a correct way to measure. I am 9 weeks post, so when I stretch my hair is it equal to a fresh relaxer and flat iron? I say this because when I stretch my hair it reaches to my BSB. That means I have been thinking I am APL when it may be longer. How can I be sure?

2nd, does gray hair grow faster that other hair? I got my first gray hair and I cut it( not pulled) down to nothing a couple of months ago and I looked earlier this week and that this is right back and 3 inches long and it is the same hair bc I made sure.

Stretching is never an exact science.

I think it better shows the true length of curly and kinky hair. The hair would fall approximately where the stretched ends fall.

If you stretch out already straight hair, that's not the true length. True length is where the hair falls naturally. However, when you do it to a curly head, you are not stretching the hair perfectly pin straight... so it basically shows the real length.

Nope, gray hair doesn't grow faster just because it's gray :)

I would have to agree I believe that most who stretch their hair are ones that have curly hair. My hair grows out so in order for me to know my length I have to pull it down to measure. However if your hair is straight already and just needs a t/u then measure after your t/u's so you have a more accurate measurement.

That's the thing, my hair is never straight except at the roots when I relax. For some unknown reason ends still spirals when I airdry. I'm starting to think I've never been bone straight(even though it looks it to me) because when it drys it spirals back up to shoulder length. I'll try to take a pic of my airdried hair tonight because it's getting confusing.

I didn't think gray did, but I'm just wondering how it grew that long in such a short time. Hmm... If the rest of my hair could get that kind of growth I'd be WL by now.

I "measure" my hair length by taking pictures of my hair when it's wet and hanging. Then I compare the pictures to previous ones to see if there is any new growth. As for grey hair, I pulled mine out a couple months ago and now it's back. Looks like it's there to stay.
