It doesnt bother me...I know with my hair the curl pattern is more "pronounced" when the hair is shorter, shrinkage happens too. Or maybe they couldnt find many long haired type 4a's or b's when these photos were taken. A lot of those pics they used are more than 6 years old, which is before a lot of people started going natural. they dont look bald though *shrugs*

For real right:rolleyes: In about two years the will be plenty of long haired naturals given the flurry of BCs that happened this year...LOL it takes a good minute (more like 24 months) to get 12 inches of glory!! :grin: I'm at month 8 and counting....:look:

Me too! Hows it going miss Janet?

As a child, my hair was natural and APL, unstretched.

Yeah, I understand shrinkage, but shrinkage to those little fros? I don't think so.......... I guess it's just me. :ohwell:

I am sure plenty of natural 4a and 4b have shrinkage well past shoulder length. IMO those fros are not little, especially since they are styled. I am sure they are bigger than mine when they are combed out or flatironed. Its not like they are TWAs
The whole idea of very tightly coiled hair is that it takes a long time to show length. And even when the hair is super long it doesn't show that unless your hair is braided or heat is applied, etc. So the best way to show the texture is to leave it to its own shrinkage like in the pictures. We can't keep being so darn sensitive about things that aren't even meant to be insults. I would be moreso offended if they came out and said our hair doesn't grow at all, or that our texture is all rough & tough and can take any kind of color or heat we throw at it(which a lot of black women wrongfully believe).

:grin::grin::grin: oh yeah

but interestingly enough, i hear 3b and think of Cichelle and Pokahontas. they need to hit them up...lol

I don't see what the big deal is. My hair is a type 4 and it looks WAY shorter than the pictures they have up there. Stretched my hair is midback or longer and you can't see a true texture straightening hair.:ohwell:

I agree, I don't really see anything here to be offended by. If you want to see my type 4 hair's real texture (which barely looks like those pics, actually), you'd have to let it shrink up and though most of my head is approaching 12" it would shrink up shorter than those photos. Also, I think what they wrote about type 4 hair being in general harder to grow because it's more prone to breakage but being able to overcome this through conditioning treatments and not putting too much stress on the hair is pretty true.
