One of the reasons I stopped relaxing..Broken Nape (Update PICS)

For some reason, my nape would always break off days after I relaxed my hair. It was the craziest thing because I would never see any broken hairs. I'd just see bald spots and broken hair days after I relaxed. I'm just now realizing that it was because my hair was severly overprocessed.

Anyway, that's when I decided not to relax again. It took some time for me to see progress, but I did when I started to moisturize that area daily, and seal it with castor oil. Also, I stopped putting it in my ponytail. Instead I braid it up, and use a bobby pin to pin it up with the rest of my hair. No one can tell the difference.

These are some comp shots taken in Oct. 07 and Nov. 07. The longer pics were a result of using MN.

These pics were taken 06/06/08. I wish my camera phone had better picture quality.

Oh I thought I'd add these in here too taken last month. YIKES!!:lachen:Please don't laugh. I tried to blow my hair out, but I don't think it worked out so well. I have got to get rid of my ends, but I don't have the courage to trim it yet. :nono: My ends in my nape area look really thin, but it's not. That was just a little section of my hair that I took down, and I think the different textures make it look kinda bad.

Very inspiring. Thanks for tracking and taking pictures. You did a great job. What was the time span from starting picture and finishing picture.

Wow! That's great progress! Thank you for sharing! You're such an inspiration for those of us who have problems with our nape.:yep: Keep up the good work.

Aww..thanks so much for saying that. It's kinda funny because I always thought that is was suppose to be shorter, but now it's catching up slowly to the rest of my hair.:yep: We can all do it. Yes we can!

Way to go! You do not have to cut your hair yet. Just keep doing what you're doing by keeping your ends moisturized. Don't worry about it being even yet. As it fills in, you'll know when to cut. As long as it it's not breaking/shedding. Keep going!

Ediese,

I also suffer from a overprocessed nape... Mines is terrible. I permed my hair on September 17 after finally growing about an inche of hair in the nape area. And about a week ago I realized that im bald in the nape area on the left side. I soooo want to scream. it seems like everytime I grow some hair back there it breaks completely off again. You are my motivation girl. I feel like I will eventually grow my nape long enough so that I will be able to wear my hair up. I thought by me perming that area last it will stop breaking. Since this isnt working I guess im going to have to STOP PERMING IT COMPLETELY...

My questions to you is what products did you use on your nape?

And how did you maintain you nape not being perm while the rest of your hair was permed?

Do you think you will ever perm your nape again?

Great progress. Thanks for sharing. Lets me know all this work is not in vain! I'm off to your fotki
