I just spent over two hours straightening this mess to end up with the results below. What is wrong with my hair? It is NEVER ever frizz free or straight. Why???? I am at wits end and very angry and frustrated. I used my maxiglide on friggin 10!! Used Chi heat protectant and serum, dc'd before hand, etc etc. I am sick of this. Do you think if I texturize my hair it will be different??

Well you sure are discouraging folks (me) from trying to go natural one day in their life!!

Get it together! :spank:

That's exactly how heat straightening turns out on my hair when it's natural.

Texturizing does help :yep: It comes out normal if I straighten my hair now.

but other people straighten successfully as naturals. I dunno HOW!

Maybe too much product on your hair. Maybe you need to get another flatiron. I know when I used to try to do my hair at home (even when I was with a relaxer), I could never get it to look like it would when a professional did it. I don't know what else to say because this board has women who get their hair looking like a professional did it, so maybe you should get a new flatiron and maybe try different products on your hair before you start. I hope that helped. I'm sure you will get more advice from the board in a lil.

Did you braid/band your hair and let it air-dry before flat-ironing? Or, blowdry it straight before flat ironing? I've heard several naturals say that's the 'secret' to a really good flatiron - the hair has to be semi-straight before hand.

:( I'm sorry it came out like that, esp. considering how much time you must have put into it!

Get out of here :catfight: :lachen:

are your ends damaged?
I don't think they are but I could be wrong. My ends are extremely curly (4a) everywhere except for the top of the crown and front area. The crown and front are the easiest to straighten. When I blowdry and then flatiron my hair the parts that are curliest are the worst to deal with :ohwell:

Maybe it's the weather? My hair can't be straight in humid summer weather.

How did you prep your hair before you straightened? It's best to "pre-stretch" your hair before hand. You can do this by wrapping, rollersetting, banding, braiding, etc. Just pick a method that gets your hair the straightest (most stretched out) and I think you're guaranteed to get much straighter results, trust me.

Why don't you get it professionally straighten. Do your research and find someone who will straighten but won't put to much heat or rip it out. Sometimes getting some professional help doesn't hurt. I wouldn't attempt to straighten my hair, it's too thich and too long and I know I would fail. I'd find someone if I had the urge to have a straight style.

Yours is the same Neith?? So i'm not going crazy??

Maybe a new maxiglide is in order possibly but i don't know...something to think about though since i've had my maxiglide for maybe 2 years now...

No, i blowdried it first, if I airdry it is all over :nono:

So, are you saying i should prestretch and then blowdry?
My hair does this too ...I think it's all in the technique of straightening but I just can't get it down.
Isn't it frustrating :ohwell:

I'm so against going to someone after all that i've been through. I just don't trust beauticians :perplexed

I just noticed that you changed your name, lol. I just automatically knew it was you from your hair and your avi.

Forgot to add.....straighten in very small sections. Your natural hair can definitely get straight, you just need to find the right technique.

So, are you saying i should prestretch and then blowdry?
You can do it that way if you feel you need to but if you prestretch the right way you should be able to do that and then go straight to flat ironing. You can run the blowdryer through a little if you feel it needs to be more stretched.

Aw, Bre :needhug:

Hmmmm..... Did you blowdry with a round brush? Or use some kind of method to get your hair semi-straight before flatironing?

I read a review on folica on FHI Hot Sauce. This chick said that she has huge curly hair that is always poofy and never gets straight. She said when she used Hot Sauce to blowdry and flatiron, her hair was finally pin straight and silky. Maybe you can look into that (?)

I will try this prestretching method next time and hopefully I get better results. If not, i think I'm going to texlax.....

Thanks for the advice and by the way your hair is looking fierce!!!

No, i just used the comb attachment that is on the blowdryer. FHI hot sauce huh? I'll look into it :yep:

Does anyone think that possibly just how my hair is meant to be and that it won't be straight??

That's how it feels to me

My hair doesn't take any method of straightening well. Even texturized it's a chore to get straight.

My hair is just like "What you think you trying to do to me, you simple *itch?" :lachen:

Sorry to hear about that, I'm natural as well and I have a hard time to straightening out my hair. It's not that your hair is natural it's just our texture of hair. Some people I know who are natural don't have a problem straightening their hair. However, my hair needs a blow torch to straighten and I have to go to a professional who works on natural hair. But when it's done right your love it, good luck on your hair journey.

My hair looked the exact same way when I used the Maxiglide no matter what products I used or how high I turned it up.:nono:

Use another iron! I was just as frustrated as you are, thinking my hair was never going ti cooperate, but I ditched that Maxiglide for another ceramic iron and I can get my hair straight without the iron being 5 million degrees.

The pic in my siggy was with a ceramic iron. The Maxiglide just doesn't get the job done for some folks.

Are you natural with coarse hair Divine? What iron do you use now?

I guess so, it's just bananas! i'm thinking i will get a permkit this weekend to just end this madness...

im not natural however, you should tie your hair down after washing and let it air dry for a little while, then flat iron it. I bet that works.

Same problem here. Same flat iron. Same products. When I do the back by the time I'm done with the front it's a poofy mess. No matter what I do it does this every time.

I have heard that if you roller set and dry and then flat iron that will help. I haven't tried it yet. I sweat bad in my head so I need to find something to help with reversion.

I can only echo what other people have said. I am natural and the best way to get my hair relaxer-straight and soft is a combination of intense deep conditioning before hand, blow drying, and flat ironing in the smallest sections possible.
It can take me hours to get my hair finished, but if i go slowly and if i use a really fine tooth comb to do the chase method it can get my hair really straight.
I have never used a maxiglide, but I remember reading somewhere that if you use it with the pins facing downward and instead of putting all of your energy into pinching the plates together, you use the plate with the pins to drag through the hair kind of like a brush. Has anyone else heard of this technique?
