I am not sure if i can class what i had as growth, because the roots became very thick...surge does that as well...my hair did grow dispite the issues of a tender scalp and hard hair, but i dont know if people are getting confused with growth and thickness to the scalp and as someone said if there is any chance that mt can clog/or block the pores then its a no no.

Hey girl I'm glad you got your scalp feeling better

and since this topic has come up again, I wondered about this after I knew I bet not speak on it any further, But wasnt it said along time ago that Protein can Reverse a relaxer? So maybe some of it is not new growth, maybe some of the protein is reversing the relaxer

Now I been around here for years and although I am not relaxed I am not crazy I SAW SO MANY POSTS about ladies having problems with the relaxer reverting after use of a strong protein/reconstructor treatment

This is just my opinion, but please STOP using any product if it is casuing a strong physical reactions like PAIN!

We all get super excited when someone post their before and after photos, but please rememeber that each person body is different.
You could be having a allergic reaction.

PAIN is never a good sign!

Thats what my brain tells me

Funny I saw the Cayanne pepper thread and that whole challenge was abandoned by many due to itching! But with this its good to itch? that confuses me

you gotta ask if the itching is indeed a good sign or not

Okay I'm confused. How is it possible for chemically altered hair to revert? I am not trying to be sarcastic - I actually really want to know. I mean, if this was possible how come it's not possible to cause the entire head of relaxed hair to revert back to it's natural state? And if this was the case, this would probably be a transitioner's dream come true, right?

I realize that the MT may cause the hair to kink up a bit but that's only until the hair is washed again, at least, this is what I have been experiencing so far. Once washed then I could clearly see that my hair hasn't actually reverted but it had kinked up a bit post MT application. After washing my hair I see that the roots are somewhat smooth as they should be after a relaxer. For sure, 4 applications could not grow the hair that fast but I'm not convinced that the relaxed hair actually reverts.

Can someone please clear this up for me:perplexed?

I don't understand it either. If you apply relaxer according to the directions, you don't start RIGHT at the scalp, b/c you're not supposed to get the relaxer cream on there so you'd have like a 1/8 of an inch of NG left anyway - plus, once your hair is relaxed and styled it all looks bone straight, but if there is any texture left in your hair, putting moisture on it would kink it up. It was never bone straight to begin with - just heat styled, so it's not actually reverting. It's still chemically processed hair.

If not I would just dump the whole bottle of MT on my head right now and be down with all this "transitioning" business!

Interesting thread- no pun intended, anywho, I have been using MT since 6/16 ( I think) I have only used it maybe twice because I'm 11 weeks post and can't get too my ng:rolleyes: I'm going to do my touch up tomorrow and after that, I'll monitor my hair and see what's good. The only issue I'm having is hard hair and a little shedding. The shedding is no biggie but the hardness is my beef:wallbash:

I've read online that you should not use a strong protein (keratin)/reconstructor after a relaxer b/c it can cause reversion. You should wait at least a week or two. (I wait two weeks to be on the safe side). Even after you neutralize the relaxer needs time to 'set' the hair so to speak. By upping protein levels, the bonds that your relaxer broke down (causing your hair to straighten) can re-form with the newly introduced protein.

The protein reinforces your hair bonds - and the bonds are what make it curly/kinky. So after a chemical process - where your hair is more vunerable, the protein has easy access, goes in, and does what it is supposed to do - restrengthen the weakened bonds. But I think there is a time limit on that - if you use protein 4wks later for example, I don't think that would happen - but immediately after a relaxer or within the first 48 hrs, then yes ( or longer so long as you haven't done anything to your hair since the relaxer -- probably up to a week or so) Same reason why protein after heat damage can help mend the hair - it can reinforce the bonds. But if you wait too long then your damage will be permanant and you will have to cut or transition out of it.

This cannot be true as I always use a protein treatment on my hair immediately after washing out my relaxer and before I neutralize my hair. I also use another protein treatment on my hair within a week following my relaxer and I am able to stretch relaxers 12-13 weeks with no problem even after using 6 additional protein treatments. My relaxer has NEVER reverted because of the protein treatments and I normally apply a protein treatment/reconstructor on my hair once a week. Some is on my hair right now.

What protein actually does is rebuild the protein bonds in the hair's cuticles after a chemical treatment of any kind. It is actually highly recommended to use a protein treatment on the hair immediately after a relaxer or other chemical treatment. Many ladies are unaware of this fact.

This is worrying me. I see a lot of post where people have the itches and huge shedding and pain. I have only been using MT a week and I haven't experienced any of these things. Except a little extra shedding. So I was concerned that it wasn't working. My hair was underprocessed before and since it's only been a week I don't believe I have ng, but roots seem to be reverting and they may be giving me the illusion of thicker hair or either it is thicker. I don't have dry hair and I have been applying every night, but I do moisturize my hair twice daily and I dc 2 times a week. This is my regular routine and I will stick to it unless I need a change. I was wondering how long before you noticed the negative effects?

so people are now looking for the itching, shedding and to feel the pain as a good sign that its working? I'm just asking but if this is true......

I cant take it! I just cant take it! :pullhair:

You are right on point Soliel185, I totally agree with your entire post especially the bolded.

I dunno Aggie I just swear before God I seen the posts over and over , over the years of women saying it happened to their hair

I never got much into it just observed because I wasnt relaxing

agreed, itching does not man growing.:wallbash:

OT, I love your new siggy pics. I guess I don't need to add a disclaimer:rolleyes:

I dunno...after I shave, those areas (legs etc) itch when the hair starts coming back in...

Not saying you should put up with crazy itchies for the sake of some growth -- just playing devil's advocate.

My hairstylist reconstructs my hair immediately after my relaxer is washed out. My hair has never "reverted." I wish that was a problem for me..

My roots stay straight and show no sign of a ripple even up to 6 weeks post relaxer. He's been doing this for years and me and the rest of his clients all agree that he gives the durn best relaxers in New Jersey.

This is what I thought also thanks for clearing this up and "unconfusing" me. I knew that chemically altered hair cannot actually revert back to natural. It just did not make any sense to me:nono:.

I think it depends on the individual. Some people do experience reversion after applying a reconstructor a few days after their relaxer. With you, that doesn't seem to be the case :)

This is sooo true. When I shave my *ahem* yaya. I itch like a ****:look:

Hard hair can only mean its gotten too much protein!

C'mon ladies, I know we all had our issues on this before. and it wasnt pretty! But the truth is this has really bothered me watching you all take so many risks and I am really truly concerned about this!

I am not denying that its working for some, I just feel so iffy about this for ya'll. It has really really bothered me after speaking up and it all going bad to just know all I can do is sit back and watch. I really hope that there doesnt end up being a bunch of downsides paid by many for this either short term or long run

I really dont! :nono:

ETA: who ever would have thought the day would come when people would be using a product and saying the shedding is ok or is a good sign? This has my mind boggled

hmmm, its a difficult one, but i am just concerned...pain what does that mean...growth???

nothing that causes pain at anytime can be good in my opinion. even if it is only for the first too weeks.

:lachen::lachen::lachen: I was trying not to bring yaya into the thread :lachen:

(for real though - the shaving itchies are no joke! I bought some of that "bump be gone" for guys that shave bald and it seems to help :look:)

For as long I can remember, my scalp has ALWAYS gotten tender/sore when my hair starts growing. Pre and Post using MT.

Everything ain't for everybody. Do you.

I guess thats where people differ?

my scalp never hurt while my hair was growing, the only time my scalp ever hurt was in my crown area when I was relaxing

So maybe the ladies that dont 'generally' feel scalp tenderness/pain as the norm 'for them' maybe they might consider would this be ok for them to now experience since its never happened to them before

If your scalp always feels tender then you are one of a kind..for someone who's scalp feels normal...and then starts to feel tender...whats that all about? and this stuff is getting into our pores...I am very unsure about this and i am glad i have stopped applying for now anyway.

But its interesting to hear different opinions on this topic, we must NOT hide things from each other, its everyones goal to have long thick healthy hair,,,huh.

tsmith honey, how come your hair is hard. I use the MT and my hair isn't hard. Have you been keeping up with your moisturizing deep conditioning treatments? I mixed my MT with some BB oil moisturizing hair lotion and oils as well and my hair is super soft as a result.
