I am making sure that I know how to detangle as my hair starts to get longer. Please tell me how you ladies detangle and what products you use.

Thanks a Million.

I detangle with my wide-tooth comb in the shower one section of hair at a time when my hair is wet and well saturated with conditioner. I usually use Aubrey's Swimmer's Conditioner.

Thank you so much. This is helpful.

while i was natural and even now with all this new growth from transistioning I also detangle when my hair is saturated with conditioner. I usually do it in about 4-5 sections with a blue Goody shower brush.

it changes each time, between these two options:
1. saturate my hair with water and detangle w/ jilbere comb
or
2. oil rinse: while oil is in hair, detangle w/ jilbere comb

I poo and condition in 6-8 plaits. I detangle with a wide-tooth shower comb in the shower under running water one plait at a time. Once I do one, I rinse, plait back up and go on to the next til I'm complete. I use pantene conditioners.

I mostly detangle in the shower, under the shower spray with my fingers and then a seamless comb. I use something slippery, which could even be certain shampoos. The actual spray of the water helps a lot. I also sometimes use a Denman brush after the comb to get the remaining shed hairs out. The key for me is detangling gently.

I say all below to say, I make sure that my hair is sectioned and covered in a slippery conditioner before detangled when not in the shower or detangle with the shower stream beating down on it after the conditioner has been on it.

Same here. I "pre-tangle" as one of our members says. I saturate my hair in a mix of that olive oil moisturizer (my hair hated it by itself) mixed with conditioner, and coconut oil. I slather that on my whole head, then section and lightly detangle. Once I am in the shower, I work it section by section. Poo, condish use shower comb or ouchless brush to get out any shed hair, rinse, braid. I do this to each section and follow up w/ a vinegar/honey rinse w/ cool water. Yes it does take time, but when I am ready to twist, it's been detangled and sectioned already, and it sure cuts down on the time it takes to twist!

Thank you so much. Very detailed.

I primarily detangle in the shower, with conditioner in my hair. Lots of it....

I'm not a shower detangler. I detangle on hair damp with either water or aloe juice and covered in conditioner. I use a super duper wide tooth comb, followed by a super wide spaced comb.

Wow Vangrey, your hair is beautiful. How did you manage to get it to curl like that?

Oh, so I won't hijack the thread:

I DC/steam my hair first with Keracare Humecto, then I detangle with my jilbere comb.

while im still transitioning this is what i did last night

sectioned my hair into two
co wash with suave on each side at a time
use cream of nature detangling shampoo
baggie my hair with conditioner while i shower then rinse out

eta: u used my conair shower wide tooth comb

I detangle after I get out the shower with Giovanni Direct Leave-in and my wide tooth wooden comb. I think the water in the shower makes my hair too pliable and therefore more prone to breakage.

thank you!
lol... my hair naturally curls in that pattern :ohwell:

I use a conditoner and my trusted denman brush. I also liked Biolage detangler when I first started my natural journey.

My hair is not long and I will be cutting more processed strands very soon so it will not be long until about next year. So I haven't had any issues detangling yet! I know for now I use creme of nature conditioner and Hemp hydrating conditioner they both are used in rotation. Also I am still trying out different leave ins. That Herbal Essences none of your frizzness is fine but is overly saturated with cones. I don't mind cones but that contains ALOT and it leaves my hair feeling too slippery with no body!

The best detangling method that I have found to work for me is when I use ORS. I take two ORS packs and slather on my dry hair that is sectioned in six parts and wrap in a plastic bag, followed by a damp warm towel, and a dry towel for 1 hour. I guess in simple terms this is Deep conditioning. This is the only way I am able to detangle my hair and manage it. After the hour has passed, I take off my towels and rinse my hair in water and then I am able to condition my hair further and style.

4b hair, completely natural, 9 to 12 inches in length. Lately I just wash hair in twists, use humectress conditioner, dry overnight. This humectruss stuff seems prevent my hair from tangling. Hair looks quite frizzy and is very dry, but I finger untwist and finger detangle, and pull out all the shed hair, then retwist with my QP mango butter. Did this and sat under hooded dryer for 20 minutes. Great results. This is my friday, saturday schedule. I am a little too afraid of completely loose hair washing. Tangling and the difficulty of making decent parts. Jeve

I detangle with my fingers in the shower every day, and with a wide- toothed comb once a week. Always, always with a thick conditioner, more or less as necessary.

I detangle my hair in braided sections. I use a wide tooth comb while my hair is soaking wet and loaded with conditioner.

Ladies, how do you get rid of knots in your hair. My friend'sand hair has major knots and I wanna help her get rid of them.

TIA

^^ Are they single strand knots or multiple strand knots?

I've tried many ways of detangling. Right now I detangle before washing. Detangling in the shower in the long run was not a workable option for me because it just takes too long to be standing in the shower all that time. I put something slippery on my hair and go through section by section and detangle. Most times I use an afro pick, but I am trying to get back to using my fingers 2 out of 3 times because there's so much less breakage. I twist each section up as a I go along and wash and condition my hair in the twists.
