I love my natural hair, I really do. And as far as texturizing, I still have so many questions. My history with relaxers is not good either:nono:. Right now I am trying to be patient and doing lots of research. If I could just wash and go, sigh, but my many different textures won't allow it unless I keep it really short. Like Shalilac said, it would be nice to be cute quickly. It takes me about an hour to wash and go because I have to add so many leave ins and fool with it so much. Big twists take an hour, smaller up to three hours. I promised myself I would wait till I made three years natural though before making any changes. I don't know what I'm going to do. And honestly, a part of me really hates the thought of ever relaxing again.
Oh wow thx for all the insight:yep:

I wanted to be able to wear my hair straight easily as I wished.

I wore my natural hair in two styles - puff, twists, and twistouts - which got boring. The one time I did press my hair I burned several parts completely straight :perplexed and the humidity got to it in a few days so it wouldn't stay straight when I wanted it to.

Texlaxing seemed like a natural alternative. I wanted more versatility with less heat. I really like to wear my hair textured as opposed to stick straight, so it was like the answer I had been looking for.

I'm happy with my decision. I don't miss my natural hair. I can get my hair straight with a rollerset-wrap or simply wash and go for a textured look.

Beautiful pics in your fotki Shalilac!

Thanks Hopeful and I know what you mean about going back to relaxers. I've bc'd so many times it's ridiculous and I realize that I luv my natural hair and I hate bone straight hair. This is my happy medium and I'm pretty sure I won't have to retouch very often. Everyday life is hard enough and my hair adding to my daily regimen just wasn't helping.

Has Anyone With Texlaxed hair Type Changed or Loosen?

Im ReallY consindering this than rathering burnig my hair straight every 3 weeks to Avoid Tangles! Detangling my hair Everyday because i cant avoid those little knots It will get Worse if i did Such a thing:nono:
Wash Days for me takes 5 hours:sad:

I plan on telaxing when I obtain some more length. Like someone else stated, I like to see progress(length) and my natural hair is very tightly coiled thus not allowing for such seeing to take place :look:

This is interesting. I have the same question in reverse. I am currently texlaxed and haven't relaxed in over 4 months. As much as I love my new growth, I love the versatility of my texlaxed hair and don't know whether I should ruin a good thing and go natural :perplexed

I kept getting knots on my ends and this made me think I was losing length as I gained it :wallbash:. I kept a close eye on certain texlaxed board members with similar fine type 4 hair as me and noticed that they had either caught up to or suppassed my legnth and I had a running start and no splits. It reconfirmed my thoughts that it would take more time and more care to get my desired length. It was also a hassle to maintain for me. I love the idea of the wash n go, not dealing with shrinkage, not using so much product, and no more knots. I love my texlax!! I'm glad I went ahead and did it. This is my new lifestyle, KISS. HTH

Ummm...so for the ladies who are diy texlaxers what is your reggie? I had been contemplating texlaxing a while back but my mentor on here told me to wait it out! But after all of these comments....UMMMM!!

I find that as my hair gets longer - and I use Alma Oil and Henna - my curl pattern has loosened some. So - Texlaxing - nah - I don't think I can do it.

My reasons were pretty much the same as everybody else. It was getting too time consuming and it was really hard to look fly on the spur of the moment. I had to plan my flyness LOL (wash, twist, dry over night, untwist in the morning). My natural hair was having some serious issues holding moisture all the sudden and started to break. I also couldn't see myself taking care of it at my goal length all natural. So... texlaxing was the way for me to go. Actually I still consider my hair texturized becuz I still have ALOT of texture. My hair is holding moisture MUCH better and the breakage is non-existant! I'm not afraid of doing my retouch because I text in sections and that helps alot. Whatever your decision, just remember to do you ;)

Oh and pics r in my fotki.

That was the reason i decided to relax my hair. I'd always have to plan my schedule around my hair and I always had to look for someone to braid it for me. When I first came to this site I was natural.

Bre Bre and Hopeful good luck with whatever you decide.:)

My regimen and texlaxing process is in the "About Me" section of my fotki.

Bre, if you decide to do it make sure you do a strand test. My mom used to relax my hair and she did would textlaxed it. My hair didn't come out curlier or wavier, more of a frizzy-straight. How your hair looks when you need a touch-up badly.

Subscribing... I had a dream I texlaxed my hair last night. :look: So I guess it's on my mind too. I don't even have problems with tangling or anything. I just feel like my hair lacks style and I'm quite bored with it.

What made you decide to take the plunge?
I was seeing no growth after a few months because the knots were so bad that I would always have to trim at least ½ an inch to 1 inch every few months. Time was also any issue. I am 4B and I could not just get up and go. I would have to wash, moisturize, twist/braid, let it dry, untwist/unbraid…I never had second day hair…detangling was always a pain. I gave myself six months to think about the next step and in December, I took the jump. My hair still looked like a big fro but it wasn’t quite as thick and it cut down on detangling dramatically. In March, I decided to get it a bit looser and didn’t have the results that I desired. The back of my head is perfection but the front is overprocessed :( I felt like a fool for having natural hair for over a year and a half only to have a **** *** me up as soon as I used chemicals again. Eventually I will be cutting that section of hair but currently I’m on a personal protective style challenge for a year and I haven’t had any issues. I also don’t see much breakage or shedding and my ends still look great 2 months later.

What questions did you ask yourself before doing it to make sure it was the right decision?

I wondered if I was doing this because I fell into the good hair/bad hair trap. I also wondered if I was doing this to appease my family since most of them hated my natural hair and had no problems letting me know this on a regular basis. I don’t think that was the case because I would have relaxed my hair immediately as the hair grew out. I had no illusions or 3B or 3C curls when I did it, I was aware of my texture and what the end result would most likely be.
My one major issue with hair was time, detangling, and the knots. I think my hair was just prone to knots and breakage no matter what I did.

Yeah, the knots are killer :(

I will!!
lack of versatility
single strand knots
shrinkage :ohwell:
Yep, them knots are the debil!

Thank you for your honesty. Yes, the fear of being natchal for two+ years only to have it ruined is something I think about. I am not going to rush into this decision!

Did anyone consider wearing their hair pressed most or all of the time to avoid tangles? I have texlaxed/texturized hair and as it has gotten longer I find myself doing the same things natural do. I can't wash and go because it will knot up, so I wash in braids...if its not stretched while its dried, it will also not up. So now, I feel like what's the point of being texlaxed? I'm considering going natural now and wearing and flat ironing or pressing.

Either that or I go straighter, which I really don't want to do:nono:

I thought about pressing more often before I decided to texlax. I know for me, my strands are soo thin and after pressing a few times, I noticed dryness and breakage. I do feel you on dealing with some of the same issues as a texlaxed head, and contemplated going straighter, but thats not gonna happen either.

Thanks for posting this. I guess there are no easy answers.

Yeah, I guess its an individual thing so there are no easy answers. I guess different things will work for people with different lengths and textures. I'm still trying to figure things out.

It seems like quite a few women on here are natural and have grown their hair long and chemical free by using heat to straighten, or by wearing stretched styles most of the time. I am hoping if I transition I will have the same luck.
