Re: Fine haired ladies that begun above shoulder length and is now beyond shoulder le

Umm.. I'll bite. I don't really have a set regimen though since I still try new products. Oh, also, I've probably always hovered around SL until I give in to my stylist cutting my hair so I hope above or AT SL is ok!

Daily
I co-wash every morning with suave tropical coconut (right now I'm using this one bottle of Milk & Honey that I found, but when that's gone I'm back to basics). I've used the sally's version of Paul Mitchell The Detangler as well.

Then I moisturize using Qhemet Burdock Root Cream mixed in my hand with a bit of castor oil. I've used lacio lacio and elasta qp's mango butter in the past for this.

Since I'm trying out Sweet Cashew's products I also spray a little of her Grapeseed leave in conditioner

After this, since I'm now on the OCT/Megatek challenge I put a little bit of that in my palm and try to massage it all over my scalp. I didn't use this at all to get to where I am now though, just started last month.

Then I seal the moisture in with either some nadia for seyani hair butter (from sweetcashew's site) or coconut oil. I've also used oyin's burnt sugar pomade in the past.

Then I bun for the day.

Ayurveda/Weekly
Once a week I'll oil my entire head/hair at night on Friday and detangle/remove shed hair. The next morning I'll use a shikakai/amla powder rinse following candy_c's regimen.

I did a henna treatment last month and liked it so I'll probably do another one again. I mixed henna with suave tropical coconut, honey, castor oil, coconut oil, and a little of shikakai and amla powders and put in in my hair for an hour or two before rinsing and deep conditioning.

Conditioners
As for deep conditioners... I've used Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Reconstructor (but this has protein in it) and Miss Key's 10 en 1.

I'm still on the lookout for the be all - end all conditioner.

Oils
In the past I've oiled my scalp daily with amla oil from henna sooq (this lasted over a month but I think I started breaking out so I stopped). Now I'll oil it as needed at night and then do my regular co-wash in the morning.

Heat
I don't use heat on my hair unless I'm getting a relaxer or I go for a Dominican blowout which is very infrequently now. I always talk myself out of it because I know either a)I'll want to wash my hair and ruin it too soon; b) my bf's gonna mess it up the minute we get home anyway; c)I like my hair when it's curly and d) since heat is bad I might as well wait till I really think I need one.

Relaxer
I've been using Phyto Index one for a few years now. I try to stretch 3 months at least and normally do about 6 month stretches.

---------

I suppose I'm a bad example cause I still have so many other things I use off and on like Beyond Tresses, rene furterer oil thingies, alfaparf midolo leave in, the alter ego revitalizing lotion and the various oils sitting in my closet.

Kinikakes has a great regimen.

I have very fine hair and I was nl I found the LHCF.
Now I'am a little past APL after a few trims and maintaining APL since dec.

I started in jan 06 with NL hair and made SL in May 06 by co-washing every other day and bunning.
Aug 06 I cut my hair back to NL and brought it to APL by bunning,co-washing and stretching my relaxers as well as texlaxing.
My hair increased dramatically in thickness too.

Hey Ladies,

My first goal before length has been thickness; so I added

  • MSM, Garlic Condish and Green Tea
  • I also Texlax; the goal here was to lower the chem-impact while accomplishing more versatility in my hair.
  • I also stretch now; anywhere from 10 weeks to 12 weeks, it just depends
  • I also use a wide tooth pick.
The thickness has improved vastly

I have discovered that it depends on if you are natural ( what grade) and if you are relaxed/telaxed. For instance, those with a more coils 4a-z might suffer lots of shedding with the manipulation of co-washing often and having fine hair. From my own experience this has happened and affected my retention. Even though the moisture was amazing it took a toll on my strands.
On the other hand it seems that the texlaxed/relaxed girls can co-wash more often cause the coil is not as tight and the risk of tangles on the strand is lessened and therefore the manipulation is lessened as well. Because of the perm they benefit from the moisture.
So, I say all this to say if you have kinky fine hair it is in your best interest to co-wash/wash less often. You should get your moisture from moisturizing and sealing, baggying and dc. If you have fine hair that is less coily you can get a way with co-washing often without suffering.

1. Wash hair twice a week (a minimum of 1x per week), 1st using our GRO-AUT Herbal Shampoo. Rinse thoroughly.
2. Then wash hair with our Jojoba Shampoo with essential rosemary oil. Rinse thoroughly.
3. After rinsing out shampoo, oil scalp with bhringraj hair oil, mahabhringraj oil, and GRO-AUT oil.
4. Then, oil hair, not scalp, with coconut oil.
5. Afterwards, apply our Jojoba Conditioner with Chamomile and Tea tree oil. I do not rinse, I leave it in.
6. I gently comb through my hair to distribute conditioner and oils from roots to ends. The longer it has gotten, the more tangled it gets after a wash.
7. Style as usual. I let my hair air dry over night so I usually follow this regime before bed.

And in addition, I take a multivitamin with iron & hair vitamins.

I cover my hair at night with a satin bonnet.

I trim hair (no more than ¼”) at least every six weeks.

I oil hair as needed (minimum twice weekly) when hair and scalp appears dry.

Although i'm not relaxed and can't speak on that part, I do agree w/co washing less when having natural fine 4a/esp 4b hair. I have tried to incorporate co washing, but it only makes my hair drier and shed more. I have had better results moisturizing and sealing daily & washing weekly
