For ladies who have hair near your waist.....

I'm natural and I air dry. I keep my routine very simple with regular gentle detangling (only with a seamless comb and under the shower spray) and regular washing. I don't use heat. I usually keep my hair up or in a ponytail. I am careful about my ends. Generally speaking, my routine is pretty boring. I will once in a while try something new. But I rarely jump on bandwagons. I put my hair in a loose ponytail and twist it at night. I sleep on a satin pillow case or with a satin bonnet or scarf.

Hey Ladies with long hair, how often do you deep condition? What do you do to your hair before bed?
I DC when I wash my hair 2 x each week, using a good moisturizing conditioner like Nexxus Humectress or Humectin.

After initially airdrying my hair in a rollerset, I maintain it a night with a few pincurls covered with a silk or satin scarf. I sleep on a silk pillowcase too. :)

I'm natural and an air dryer. I do like Nay and wash in braids. I deep condition when I wash it. I only comb my hair during wash day. I press my hair 1x per year, if that.

The most important things I can contribute to my length are no direct heat, and low manipulation. Those two things are HUGE! Other hair care practices are important but those are the biggest for me:yep:.

I usually wear braid-outs and roller sets. I wash my hair once a week or once every two weeks. Through out the week I try not to comb my hair a lot and finger comb as much as possible. I moisturize and oil my hair everyday and take my vitamins. I don't do protective styles other than a ponytail everyday. When I'm home though my hair is always pinned up or in a bun.

To sum it up, I think the less you do to your hair the better.:yep:

I'm (only slightly) ashamed to say that I never deep condition anymore.
I found a way to keep my hair moisturized 24/7 so it really doesn't need it anymore.

Before bed I loosely twist my hair and fasten the twist with a hair comb. That way it's soft enough to sleep on and still looks great in the morning when I take it down.

I'm amazed to see that most of us don't wear protective styles!
I wear a ponytail 99% of the time...boring I know!
Same here. I dc like once a month.

My hair is always covered when I sleep and it's either cross wrapped, twisted, braided, banded, baggied or rolled up with 2 rollers. Dang, I sleep a lot of different ways:look:. How I wear my hair at night depends on how I want it to look in the morning.

What are you using to secure your daily ponytail? Thanks!

My hair is relaxed. I keep heat OFF! (direct heat)
I air dry 99% of the time. If not, it's a roller set. I shampoo and condition once a week, and I CO once a week. During winter, I do one or the other once/week, and I dry under a hooded dryer rather than air dry. I do wear protective styles more often than not and use oils on my hair between washings. :)

Goody Ouchless bands from Wal-Mart. I'm trying to start using panty hose more like Chicoro does. That seems to be more gentle and a lot easier for me to ponytail my wash n' go's! I get so tired of trying to pull my huge puff through those bands:wallbash:.

This is such a great thread, and it's so good to see that we have so many members on here with WL hair!! VERY inspiring... :yep:

^^^ I agree.

I'm currently an inch past brastrap and trying to reach waistlength. I don't have split ends (thanks to my rollersets ) but my ends are not as thick as they could be b/c I havent trimmed since like the beginning of Sept/end of Aug of '07.

How often do you (waistlengthers) trim and how do you keep your ends full?

Natural

My hair grows long because I don't cut it and I don't have very little (if any) breakage.

Air dry- curly
Blow dry-straight. My curlformers are on the way, so I'm hoping to style without heat soon- BUT . . .

Using heat seems to work for me. If I don't use heat, and just wash and go (no setting) I have to wet my hair everyday. My hair needs moisture when it's kinky, and that means I have to detangle while wet more often- thus I lose more hair. When my hair is straightened, I use oil to keep it moisturized, and there is very little tangling- thus very little manipulation. I know that in the long run, using heat probably shortens the lifespan of each hair strand, so that is why I'm looking for other ways to smooth the hair and lock in moisture (twist outs, braid outs, and maybe curlformers . . .).

OK -I will brag about my mommie......

Cause I aint there at all!!!!

so here is her pic.

I know my mom's Regimen -

shampoo with CON - oh - since forever.......

She uses Hairobics Products and stuff that I make for her.....

NEVER uses heat - and wears it in a pony tail all the time. Her hair looks alot like chicoro's.

And she has done this for at least 40 years.

If she ever straightens it - it is a rollerset.
the last time my mom went get her hair done was my wedding in 2001 - Before that? the 60's literally....

My mom is my hair IDOL.

I'm natural and waistlength.
I don't use blowdryers. I rollerset (and sit under a hood dryer) and flat iron about every 2 weeks. I don't do protective styles, except the ponytail when I need to wash my hair but don't feel like it.:spinning:
I don't cut or trim much at all. The details are in my LHCF journal.

For those of you with WL hair, how did you keep it from rubbing on your clothes while you were getting there?

You really can't keep it from rubbing your clothes unless you wear your hair in an updo style. I do this especially while at work. Even the fabric from my chair will just drink the moisture out of my ends and facilitate splits. If you want to wear your hair down, you can try to find a blouse made of fabric /material that would not cause any ill effects to your ends.

Just a thought..

How do you guys go without combing for so long?

I've tried the not coming thing and I find it to be sooo hard to let go of a comb. I once stopped combing for one week and then when wash day came I combed and felt like I lost more hair than usual - duh, it was the fact that I didn't comb before, lol, but it still felt like a lot!

Is the not combing everyday to avoid taking out more shed hairs than usual? What about using a wide tooth comb?

Great information. :)

I have been stalking your fotki. I cant wait till I get to your length.

I'm a natural.

I wash every 7 days but I'm considering washing every 5 days.

I wash my hair in 4-6 braids.

I deep condition for 30 minutes under the dryer every time I wash.

Airdrying does not work for me, so I either sit under the dryer with big rollers or I sit under the dryer to dry my twists (with rollers on the ends).

I wear my hair in a bun 75% of the time.

I get my hair pressed 1-2 times per month. It's only during those times, (maybe for the next 2 days after) that I wear my hair down. Whenever my hair is pressed, I use ZERO additional styling products, moisturizers or anything of that nature. Just wear a scarf or bonnet to bed. I use my flat irons and curling irons only for special occassions or if I really need my hair done but can't get to the salon. Otherwise no heat in between washings.

The only time I do not deep condition is when I wear my hair in a wet bun. Whenever I do this, I wash, saturate my hair with regular conditioner and pin it up. When I do this, I just put a scarf on at night over the bun until I wash again. I have to wash my hair every 3 days when I do this.

Nay is the one who inspired me to have a really simple hair routine. She also turned me on to more natural products, although I often stray :look:. I'm a big conditioner junkie and I'm having a hard time parting from CON shampoo, but simple is definitely better.
