I was just reading the Black Women and Long hair thread. A few members posted how they received negative reactions when individuals find out that they have long hair. The individual (coworker, relative) then goes on to give details of how THEY would style their hair if the member's hair was there.

Since it is not their hair, why get so upset about it?

Are these people living vicariously through peoples' hair?

Other than getting alot of tangles and blocking the sun, this is one reason why I don't want to wear my hair out much.

This is my view and always have been: It is not my hair, then it is not my business...particularly if you are an adult.

I completely agree:spinning::spinning:

If it isn't my hair, I could care less if it's real, fake, natural, relaxed, lol

Personally, I think other people are just simply hating...:wallbash:

Anyhoo, I just worry about keep my own hair healthy and strong:yep:

I used to get this alot in junior high. But the point of the matter is if they had that hair they wouldn't do a damn thing with it but throw it in a bun or ponytail, too.

I feel this way....I hate the comments ..If I had your hair I would do this or that....I think to myself ...If you had my hair it would be in a bun right now too...

I don't know why it bothers people so much

Right!

It doesn't make sense. See, I think that many don't believe they COULD have that hair, so they live throug other people. Of course we know, when you offer some healthy hair practices, they go off about why they can't do it. Do they really want it?? Hmmm, doesn't seem like it.

In fairness, some people are just making "suggestions." It's not always "hate." However, I will compare hair to wealth (in this situation:lol:).

Some people will go into another person's home and talk about how they would decorate it (if they could have a house like that).

Some people will say what they would do with "Oprah's money" or "Bill Gates' money"

I look at it like this. Instead of saying what you would do with Oprah's money, or Bill Gates money, why not get on a program that allows you to have your own money to spend. Likewise, if you see someone's beautiful hair and you want it, ask them what products they use, where they go to get their hair done, etc. You too, can have it like that!:yep::lol:

^^^ I hope they are making suggestions. I think the way a person says something really determines if I am or anyone else is going to take it as a suggestion.

Other people's hair is just that and it really is not that serious. I've seen people cry and complain on hairboards because someone else cut their hair. Why are people getting so attached to others' body parts?

This is so true. I have people say why you always wearing that bun, your hair is so thick and pretty. Well in order to keep it that way, there is certain things I have to do to keep the hair I have and gain more. "If it was me I will be...........blah, blah, blah". Oh yeah that why you are wearing weave in your head right now, cause you hair either thinned out or broke off. So thats why I wear my bun all the time. I don't get upset anymore and where my bun 90% of the time.

like somebody said in one of the 549879346246 threads about that...

"the reason you DON'T have hair like this is cause of all that stuff you would DO to it!"

IMO,

Maybe i'll think different when i reach APL and beyond but it would irritate me to see someone with long hair who ALWAYS has it up 99% of the time. When i didn't want to enjoy my long hair, i cut it.

That's one of the reason why i'd always cut my hair. It would get long, never wear it out, so i'd cut it in a cute style that would force me to wear it out and enjoy it.

Folks at work thought i was someone else when i wore my hair down one day. Because they realized i NEVER wore it down. I Didn't even appreciate it.

And if find myself at BSL and still wearing ponytails and buns 95% of the time, then i need to cut my hair again.

Thank you! "If I had hair that long I would blah, blah, blah"

Don't worry boo, I doubt you'll ever have that problem.:perplexed

Is it so hard to believe that the pony tail or bun is not only a protective style

but sometimes a style of choice

Maybe some ladies actually love their long hair in a bun/pony

I do and dont view it as what I am not doing with it, but more, I just actually enjoy it as is

Exactly. I actually like buns. I always thought they were regal. Still do. Also is I get one more person asking me why I wear wigs. I wear the because I like them.

My mother has WL hair, and that is all we tell her. Needless to say, she says the same thing. She does NOTHING with it:ohwell:! Sometimes I want to grow it out like that, but I always tell myself if I did grow it out that long it would be in a ponytail or I would cut it right back off.
People are just eager to do alot with alot of hair, that's all!:look:

All I want is one long beautiful braid

My soul intention is to surrender to that one style for the rest of my life eventually

I understand and agree with you.
