I just picked up Essence today and was flipping throught it when I came across the Black Men, Sex & Intimacy section (pg 143) and one man's quote turned my face to :perplexed. This bamma said...

"I like a Black woman with her own hair, whether it's permed or natural. I'm opposed to any augmentation like hair weaves and extenstions. [ok, that's his opinion like anyone elses BUT check the reasoning...] To me that shows a woman is not secure in herself. It's nice to have something to run your hands though, but the length doesn't matter. When a woman is confident, it comes across in teh way she carries herself and wears her hair."

Did the bolded part not sit well with anyone else? I'm just saying... I'm going to go take my "insecure" butt right on to the BSS and get my 1/2 wig, full wig, ponies and buns to keep my hair covered and protected until it grows so someone can run their fingers through it all the way down to my waist :grin:.

People just don't think before they speak. :nono:

^^ you know today on Tyra (Black Womans Issues) there was a guy who said something similar. He said women who wear weaves aren't comfortable with themselves or trying to hide something.

However, I can guarandamntee you that if Tyra, with her wigs/weave and millions in the bank, stepped to whatever man has those same feelings, that thought would go out the window. QUICK.

:lachen::lachen: I like this word.

Yeah, it's a silly statement. It's just hair and options.

:wallbash: Double Standards! How many on screen show their real hair? Besides, "I am not my hair!"
Something men, including mine, don't realize: We are women and we like variety, better we change our hair then change them (although some could use it!):yep:

I sometimes don't think that us LHCF'ers are the norm and a comment like that is actually applicable for the masses (unfortunately)... meaning, there are more than a few women who #1 don't have much of their own hair to speak of, #2 won't show that "real" hair to the world (and rightfully so b/c it's jacked up the fullest & #3 only feel pretty and confident with 3 to 4 packs of track packed into it.
Don't take it personally. He OBVIOUSLY wasn't talking about us! :look::nono:

Oh, I'm not taking it personally but to just judge someone's esteem on the way they pick to wear their hair is just redonkulous! But then again I don't want no 40+ year old man with a receding hairline and cornrows either. :lachen:

Some men really do have this view. But don't let that stop u and your Yacky. Some men don't like short hair, natural hair, dyed hair, permed hair, braided hair. To each is own

I don't think confidence comes from hair and a sexy woman is a sexy women whether she has 1 inch of hair or 20 inches of weave.

Hey, Sweetly, cut the guy some slack and let him show his ignorance any way he chooses!!!! :lachen:

Didn't bother me one bit. Usually, when I put a weave in or some type of extensions it's to do a certain style and it's out within a month. However, there are some women who rock weaves, wigs, extensions 24/7 and I can see how that statement maybe applicable to them.

Some people aren't comfortable with their own hair and that could be reasons from it's "jacked up" like another poster mentioned or they have some medicals issues.

I didn't have self esteem issues when I was relaxed, but I didn't feel at a 10 unless I added some pieces to create fullness. Like I wasn't really put together because in a sense my hair was lacking. But, those days are long gone since I went natural. I really don't have the option of pieces. Which has forced me to feel at a 10 regardless. And honestly, I believe in my heart and mind I am at a 10 now. Didn't feel that way before.

Now, I fill in my eyebrows almost everyday. I consider his statement could be applicable to me in that case. I do feel weird or like I can't look people in their eyes when my eyebrows aren't filled in. I think eyebrows make or break your face and I got dealt the short hand. lol But, thank the Lordd for MUFE. Cause I fill those bad boys in and am ready to go.

So in this sense I see how this guy could come to such a conclusion.

Youuuuuuu get an e-slap for thinking like you can't look someone in the eyes unless your eyebrows are filled in!

Now e- slap me bc sometimes I stuff my bra with those chicken cutlet looking things or keep my arms folded :lachen:but I'm still a 10...flat and all! :grin:

Yeah men say that they don't like weaves, wigs, extensions etc. but then they lust after women lik Tyra, Vivica, n all them who wear them 24/7. LOL. They don't know what they want.:lachen:

ot but what is MUFE???

<from my experience>
The only men I've ever met on this planet who had deep-seeded issues with weaves is black men.:perplexed Never heard anyone try to put such deepness into some wefts of hair as ours. Also, most of the men who have problems with weaves thinks Mariah Carey, J-Lo and Vida Guerra are goddess.:perplexed
Umm..... ok.... but he steady preaching about how black women should "love themselves just the way they are."

Also, every guy who thinks black women should be natural all expect the woman's texture to look like this:

Then gets pissed and start fussing about a perm when her hair turns out this way:

:rolleyes:

So I guess all men who are balding, and decide to wear a bald head are insecure too:ohwell::rolleyes:.....of course not. I hate when men make ignorant statements like the above.
