How long did it take you to get out of the "awkward" stage?

Ladies please don't be discouraged I started out with nl hair 2 years ago and just know made APL.
I was just a few inches from APL in my first year when I chopped it all of b/c my hair looked like the infamous mushroom.
I would not do it again b/c I eventually doubted my ability to grow hair b/c everyone else surpassed me but I finally made it and I got very fragile fine hair so if I can make it you can too:yep:
Thnks mamita... I guess I'll just focus more on the health rather than the length right now.

I am working to get to shoulder length when natural and it is at a funky length right now. My solution? Weaving it up until the summer, then I'll check on it.

My natural hair is inches away from APL -it feels heavier but still doesn't hang yet. I just keep it cornrowed, moisturized and wear a wig!

I'm hoping to have that WOW look by August!

I really thought my hair grew fast but then it stopped growing (well, it feels like it). But hey! I'm grateful for knowing such optimistic people on this board.

See thats why I am so glad that I joined this forum.
I was just getting in the car last night. I recently added Brahmi oil in my regimin. My hair likes that better than it likes the Amla and Coconut Oil. Anyhoo,.,I like oooing ahhing over my hair all day.

Then out of nowhere I am thinking to myself "Thatz it, if I dont get 2 inches of growth from all of this by my next relaxer (March), I am going to get a cute cut that is low maintence"...I think I can push on now........

*oooommmmm, she is clearing here thoughts and thinking of BSL hair length oommmmmn*

most folks here seem to say bt sl and apl is awkward. I can't even make shoulder! I feel like once i make it past neck and to shoulder, i'll be on easy street.

layered neck length seem more awkward to me. bc its not short enough to just slick down (like a super short cut), but really not long enough to wear down and be cute (unless its meticulously curled and styled)

I have all these freaking layers. and its soo hard to hard to see any progress at all bc of them not to mention how thin it looks when its not styled. :nono:

for me its awkward cause i want the hair on my sides to hit my shoulders so that it looks more fuller and it also doesnt fall right at the back and for the life of me i cant style it!!! so im always in a pony tail...ALWAYS!! :nono: im also waiting for apl

I would agree with this. I felt like my hair was at a stand still forever because of all the layers. But I noticed that the back started to fill in before my hair looked longer overall.

That's how my hair started out and yes this is IMO the most akward stage I had.
My mistake was to try to even out all my layers at once instead of getting to a comfortable length like mid SL or APL and gradually evening out my hair.
How I said earlier my hair is very fragile and thin(even tough my density is thick) and if I was able to get over this stage anyone can:yep:

I just wore my hair twirled up in a claw clip and was co-washing 2-4 times a week and airdrying.
Other then that I left my hair alone.
I didn't look cute but it worked.
My little sis kels is or was at this stage and she's able to look cute while growing her out maybe you can hit her up for some help:yep:

StellaB don't give up please, your hair grows no matter what you do.
You just have to find away to retain it:yawn:
