I am sad to report no extra growth, a little more sheading (maybe due to weather), fear of messing up normal flora. So I have taken a new perspective on hair growth: I will grow no more hair with growth aids that I did with out them so my next step is to try and perserve all that I grow. I will be trying pure lanolin on my hair to see if it will help with my moisture problem with out causing more damage. I'll let you know how it's going in three weeks.:look:

Awww...Im sorry Wand, somethings that work 4 others may not necessarily work 4 u...I bought the family dollar MN but my lazy butt still hasnt used it yet....But do tell...what is this lanolin that u speak of:grin:?
Im having extreme dryness too...is it like mineral oil/petrolatum....TIA

3 weeks really isn't enough time to see if any product gives results.

Consistency is best, I think.

Are you relaxed? I think using something for one mid relaxer cycle and seeing how much more NG you get over 6-8 weeks is best, before giving up, at least.

But, still, I am all for not using growth aids anyway, I just think 3 weeks is not enough time.

Also, I am not sure about that Lanolin for dryness. It may have an opposite effect over the long haul.

Normally I'd agree and say three weeks isn't long enough to see results with a new growth aid, but considering that many are seeing results in only two weeks, and some cases ONE week, I'd definatley be disappointed too. But it just may take your hair longer to adjust to the MN.

ITA!! I don't think lanolin is a good idea at all :nono:

What brand of mn did you use? A lot of people said they didn't get any growth with any brand of mn besides the Family Dollar brand

Don't quit yet. Same thing happened to me until I tried the Family Dollar brand.

Lanolin is the oil from sheeps skin it is made of the same type of moisture that our bodies make. I used it for tenderness when I was nursing my kids. I cost too much to throw out when I was done so I used it on my hair and it liked it. I haven't heard of anyone else useing it.

I agree. Wandabee, you may want to stick it out a little longer with the MN.

ITA @ bolded. Coconut oil is the best for penetrating the hair shaft per research:
Why Coconut oil is the best (based on research): Coconut oil, being a triglyceride of lauric acid (principal fatty acid), has a high affinity for hair proteins and, because of its low molecular weight and straight linear chain, is able to penetrate inside the hair shaft. Mineral oil, being a hydrocarbon, has no affinity for proteins and therefore is not able to penetrate and yield better results. In the case of sunflower oil, although it is a triglyceride of linoleic acid, because of its bulky structure due to the presence of double bonds, it does not penetrate the fiber, consequently resulting in no favorable impact on protein loss.
This is why anything with mineral oil and petroleum in it is no good for our hair. However, most of the beauty supply store items have it as the first few ingredients.
I have also been using Castor oil lately for the brillant shine.

I'm not one to give the advice just yet as I'm on this challenge too.
I would just give it more time if I were you.
I'm not checking until 3 months is up because I'm so darn impatient as it is and with just a tiny bit of growth (especially since I'm a "very" slow grower) progress would go un-noticed and I'd be frustrated again. So I've decided to wait until my 3 month anniversary.
Just my 2 cents. :yep:

Im serious- you can really break it sown So far all of the short bus kinds(myself included) You do girl!

For anybody using the family dollar mn, is it plain 2% mn or is it the family dollar yeast treatment? I went to purchase but I'm not 100% sure I was choosing the right box. Everybody's stellar results seem to be tied to the dang Family Dollar brand so I give up-I'm headed back to FD. So please help-and pics would be great

Thanks Tricie:grin:

I used family dollar mn, sulfur 8 grease, and baby oil. Sulfur 8 has lanolin in it:yep:

i cant say that sulfur 8 does not yeild results for some ppl. ive heard so many good things about it. i know for myself in the past, i loved it as a scalp massage before bed because of the tingly effect it gave, it was very relaxing to me. now that i know that petroleum has little to no good effect on hair. i stay away from it(sulfur8) and use things like peppermint oil ect.... for the tinglies i look for in a hair product, and as far as baby oil is concerned its only mineral oil with a nice fragrance. i hope you will discontinue the use of this in your mix, if you do decide to continue using your growth aid a little longer.
