Is your hair all one length?

Heck naw!!

i'll tell you the most helpful thing I learned about my hair this year. My hair grows in layers and thus frequently makes my ends look thin as one layer grows longer in comparison to the the bulk of my hair. I would constantly cut because I  blunt, thick ends.

I just decided one day to wait it out and see what my hair would do. Once the ends looked thin, I kept my hair up in a bun so I wouldnt be tempted to cut it. Eight weeks later with the next relaxer the thin ends were gone (ie growth had evened out)

I think a lot of ladies here cut their progress away b/c they dont like the way it 'looks'. Give your hair a chance to flourish and you'll be amazed. My hair has never been this length in my adult life:eek:

Hey Ladies,

I didn't post because I was trying to wait until the very last minute. But I did take pictures early this morning and I will post later.

Although it did grow alot especially to have cut about 4 inches off, I'm feeling a little discouraged.

I thought my hair would be in better shape. I don't apply any heat to my hair, I don't have a relaxer, I deep condition once a week, seal my ends with oil, keep them covered at all times, baggy at night, do scalp massages, etc.

And I am still fighting with these ends!!!! I can't stand all these knots and tangles.

When my hair is natural is looks like their in good shape, but as soon as I flat iron my hair the truth is revealed.

So right now I'm working on a new regmine and i'm focusing more on health and not length.

I would like to team up with a few ladies who have experienced the same thing this past year and who really wants to get aggressive with meeting their goals. So together we can find out what didn't work and find out what we need to do to get over this hump.

I don't want to be negative, but once I reach BSL which should be sometime in June (or before) i'm going to texlex my hair. Being natural has been wonderful for me but as my hair gets longer it gets difficult to control.

I'm only going to keep on the relaxer long enough to loosen my curls and do 3-4 month streches.

Thanks for listening,

(I will post later Bre Bre)

I am addicted to this thread. I will reach APL in 2008!!! Thanks ladies for the inspiration:):)

Hey Ladies!

I've been having the hardest time adding pictures.

But if you look at the bottom you'll see my results from the APL challenge.

I was a little down on myself until I took a good look at the picture and I didn't do to bad. (my hair grows in layers but it's still getting thick)

It may not look like it but it's close to APL even after cutting an inch off at the begining of the month to even out the ends and I have a little hair at my roots that keeps reverting so I decided to leave it alone.

I'm really going to start being positive with my hair and showing it more love.:love3:

I really believe that once I find a regmine that works for me i'll be ok.

BSL here I come.

I reached APL, but not fully. I took one braid out and it is past my armpit. My nape is there, I'm in braids so I can't get an accurate picture shot. Even though I had my burning incident in November, my hair is doing better and it is steadily growing. I'm still using baking soda, shikakai powder, alma oil, and coconut oil on mine and my kids' hair. So far, so good, we have nothing to complain about. Actually, my 7 year old is loving her hair more, especially because its much easier to detangle since I've discontinued shampoo!

I have a few more days (12: see my countdown)
I always do my updates on the 15th... so...
it should be interesting.

I haven't trimmed since APRIL 07...
so you will get to see if I retained all of my length

Here's my photo....I'm pretty much in the same spot as I was back when I joined this challenge, back in July:sad:

s.jpg

What I learned: I learned either my hair does not like heat, or I'm using heat the wrong way. I noticed that I had a lot of breakage after I used the blowdryer or the curling iron. My appliances are from the 1990's so I'm not get the benefit of the newer, more hair friendly appliances. I also think I lost a lot of hair by incorrectly using the Denman brush.

:ohwell: Off to join the APL in 2008 challenge:look:

Wow, I didn't realize my neck is so freakishly short. Hopefully I'm hunching my shoulders and don't realize it:ohwell:

Do you use a heat protectant when you blow dry? My flat iron is a little newer (my blow dryer is from the mid 90s lol) but I've grown to realize that high heat isn't what my hair needs. I blow dry on a cool setting and use a low setting when flat ironing.

BTW there's nothing wrong with your neck!!! :p

Most likely I did, but I haven't really seen my hair down and straight/ nor have I documented my current length since 10/22/07 pic below. Right now I'm in a curly weave and I'm skipping my APL reveal and awaiting Dec 2008 for my BSL.

P.S

I may relax in May 2008 for our trip to Hawaii!!!!:drunk: (I'll take pics then)

Like I wrote in the other thread I didn't make it. I'm getting a touch-up tomorrow so I'll post my before and after pics then.

HeeHee, thanks:grin:

Yeah, I used a heat protectant but, it is possible that I have the heat up way too high :perplexed I'll try the cool setting and see how that works. If I still see breakage, I think I'll just keep my hair put away for a while.

Ok here are my pictures. In a few months I'll claim APL.

My starting pic again

Sorry for the delay. I made Armpit Length but had to trim my horrible ends (pictures are in Fotki). So I am almost APL but not quite :ohwell:. I made some mistakes during this challenge and my hair suffered because of them. I am now back on track with fresh new ends :yep:. Pics are in my siggy and Fotki.

I am just barely there. I have to trim not sure if to do it now or when I reach bra strap which is my goal. Obviously the ratty ends did not stop the growth and I seldom wear my hair straight. What should I do trim now or when I reach brastrap? Here are the pics. Sept's pic is sopping wet. The lines drawn represent APL.

I didn't make it either. Although it doesn't look like it, I had a trim a month ago. My ends are raggedy again. I don't like the look of it at all but if I keep cutting, I will never reach my goal. Another LHCFer said that some people's hair doesn't grow even all over and I'm hoping that's what my problem is. Also, I haven't been taking my vitamins. I'm really sad because it is taking so long to get there.
