Okay, I know all relaxing systems have a time frame listed on them.

My question is.......What result is the time frame predicting?

I have heard from many stylist that even in school, you are not taught to relax bone straight so what result are the manufacturers setting when they set the time frame for the relaxer?

I mean, if you get relaxed with normal strength relaxer and you stay within the time frame....and you get straight hair as a result, does that mean the relaxer was too strong or is that what the manufacturer predicted?

The time frame is a guideline. From what I understand, the hair is not necessarily meant to be relaxed straight as a pin. Relaxer is meant to make the hair manageable. The fact that there are only three strengths for a myriad of hair types, textures and density indicates that results will and can vary greatly.

Thanks for you help. I was just so confused.

Since you are a good stylist.......How straight do you usually relax your clients unless they ask to be bone straight? In your professional opinion what is your stance.

Thanks gym. I ask my clients what they would prefer. Most want some texture left in so I leave some texture in. When my hair was relaxed, I preferred bone straight results on my own hair. If I were to relax my hair again, I would go for bone straight. It's a matter of personal preference.

Thanks. I am thinking about going back to a stylist on a regular basis and for my touchups so this is helpful.

Not to bug you but any tips you can provide for caring for straighter relaxed hair? Any particulars?

Glad I could help.

Caring for straighter relaxed hair involves pretty much what is taught here. Regular protein and moisturizing deep cons are the most important. Bone straight hair does not have to mean weak, brittle hair. I'm "speaking" from experience and I'm sure many of the relaxed ladies can back me up on this.

You'll need to see what works for you, but generally the straighter the hair, the shorter the stretch between relaxers. I used to relax bone straight every 8-10 weeks and never had any problems. Find what works for you. Also, stay away from hair lighteners and chemical color other than "deposit only" i.e., going darker. I hope that helps.
