Just wondering, do you apply moisturiser to the hair or do you apply it to the hair and to the scalp?
And is moisturiser the same as Hair dress? TIA

I find after reading the ingredients for products called hair dresses, they are not moisturizing your hair b/c water is not the first ingredient it's usually mineral oil or petrolatum.

The key is finding a daily hair moisturizer where water is the first ingredient and an oil, to seal in the moisture, is the second ingredient.

I use a lotion consistency daily hair moisturizer and seal with 2 to 3 drops of oil focusing on my ends daily and my hair stays moisturized, smooth, and soft.

HTH:grin:

I have moisturizers of different weights. I put what I feel my hair needs at the time. I try to moisturize in the morning and night, but sometimes my hair just doesn't need it. I apply to my hair and ends.. not my scalp.

Other times.... it DOES :yep:

I apply moisturizer to my hair only and not to my scalp. My scalp doesn't really need it and also, because my hair is thin/fine, anything on the scalp makes it too flat.

I apply moisturizers to my hair, not scalp...and like someone said..i am finding that I don't need it everyday so I just put it on my ends daily.

I moisturise my hair but not my scalp. What I have found works for me is to moisturize each section instead of my entire head at once. So as I am rolleing a section I will put a little moistuizer on the section right before rollering.

I do this too. I use wave nouveau moisturizing lotion, and I seal with castor oil. I moisturize my hair in sections.

I've been really trying to dig the hairdress thing, but IMO it doesn't moisturize jack. I bought some b/c Macherieamour used it in that wrapping tutorial a few months back (she has the Keracare version; I bought that and the DE hairdress), and my hair gets very confused :nono: Sorry, Macherie :ohwell:

Anyways, I apply regular moisturizer to my hair only sometimes, but when I do, it's to the hair (mostly ends) only. Most of the time, I just use one drop of Vatika oil for slip.

I think of Hairdress as a styling product. It finishes off the hair, but doesn't really have any treatment properties. It temporarily shines or smooths a finished hairstyle.

Moisturizer actually attracts and binds moisture to the hair, IMO. The product needs a combination of water and humectants. Right now I'm using S-curl on the ends and edges of my hair. I wear my hair up during the week, since I wear a lab coat at work, so I'm not really concerned with the S-curl weighing my hair down. I've found that S-curl isn't really effective if you are in an overly dry environment. If I remember correctly, glycerin has a tendency to pull the moisture our of your hair if it there is no/low moisture in the environment. So I apply the S-curl at night and sleep with a humidifier. In the morning, the ends are very moisturized and I don't have to reapply.

i apply moisturizer to my ends and whats ever left in my hands: i apply it to the rest of my hair: (not scalp) and if i'm not wrapping my hair before I got to be: i'll seal my ends w/ castor oil.

Thanks for this explanation Myco! I've never really understood "hairdress". This helps.

I section my hair w/ my fingers into 3-4 parts starting from the back. Then I take little more moisturizer and concentrate on my ends, after that I take a little castor oil and seal my ends.

I put moisturizer on my ends everyday. And when I say ends, I mean I start from the hair closest to my scalp and moisturize on down.

This is the hair dress I am using, its creamy and it has water, does that make it a moisturiser?

This is the other one I am using. It also has water. Does that make it a moisturiser too?

Humectants are things that attract and bind water/moisture. Examples of humectants include glycerine, propylene glycol, glyceryl triacetate. Polyols like sorbitol, xylitol and maltitol. Polymeric polyols like polydextrose or natural extracts like quillaia, or lactic acid or urea. Lithium chloride is an excellent humectant.

Mineral oil also has humectant properties, but it can build up under the skin and prevent absoprtion of other good ingredients. That might be why people find that their hair does better when they avoid mineral oil products on the scalp.

The more of these items contained and the higher up on the list, the more moisturizing the product will probably be.

i never add anything to my scalp except shampoo. i put a dime-sized amt of moisturizer in my palm and rub it together and then apply to my hair concentrating on the ENDS.
