Im not good at telling hair types and all. all I know is a 1a and that I am not..

so far ive decided that it must be 4 something.. here is how my hair feels.

When wet its like you see it on the pic, more coily, and when dry its straighter, its very soft, even when dry. and gets very straight by only blowdrying.. so here is a pic. let me know what you think my hair type is...

does it matter where im from? :look: im east african. exactly im from kenya :)

IDK for sure, but from what I'm looking at and what you described it seems to be anywhere from a 3c/4a combo to 4a. it doesn't look quite 3b or 4b.

You don't look like or sound like a 4B which is what I am.

So you are somewhere in the 3-4A area.

Looks incredibly healthy.

Your braided hair looks like mine, and I'm 4a. But going on your description, you could probably be a mix of 3c and 4a. :yep:

Hujambo Saida! I too think you're 3C/4A, and yes, I've come across that description before, so you're pretty normal.

No, my hair type is 4A/B but mostly 4B, I think.

Excuse the poor pics but these are the pics that I could find kinda showing my texture upclose: Pic 1; Pic 2; Pic 3; Pic 4

You not in the 4 Group at all. You are probably 3b/3c.

Hi Saida...you are not a 4 at all to me...You look like you are in the 3's...which letter of the 3's that I am not sure...I am a 4B and that's pushing it...girl if it was a 5 or 6...that would be me with this hair of mine...:lachen:

Shaida, I can usually better judge hair-types by seeing someone's edges/nape area, but your hair texture looks very similar to the 4a patches I have on my head.

Although, you could be a 3c with very tight curls.

3c possibly... but 3b would look straight with that amount of growth. even 3c hair would show straightish.
i think i agree with this,,, i think hair in the 3's generally grows out straight..i am mostly 3b and the hair by my part is totally straight becuz it hasnt curled yet,, the first hair always is,,, i think the Saida's hair might be 4a although it looks like a very soft 4a,, i think so becuz the new growing hair is so curly i doubt its in the 3's but something about it looks like it is in the 3's ........ very confusing texture for me:grin:

you see thats why I dont even know what I am :ohwell:

it dosent mater, I'll creat my own hair type X7

Now I'm completely confused. My hair loks exactly like hers, but I always thought I was a 4b.

Saida, I don't know your type, but your hair looks really healthy and shiny!:yep:

you look 3c/4a- my hair type.
my 3c is actually coil not straight as some people described. my hair does not air dry straight though.
may be you have more 4a than 3c.

4a/4b. Do you have any other pics from different angles?

I also agree with some above who have said that 3's usually grows out straight, THEN becomes curly after obtaining some length. Less than 1 inch from your scalp, your hair has already waved/curled. Either way, i still say 4a/4b mix. But don't worry - I also thought I was 3c/4a, and it turns out that I'm 4a/3c. Your hair looks good, so that's most important :-)

this is my hair in most places, i have 4a in front though thanks for the pics.
may be they need to have sub types of 3c.

Ok, Girl, you have to enlighten a sistah. What's the difference?

Interesting discussion this is! I always thought that group 3 (A, B, C) was made up of curly hair, with A being the straightest (larger curls) of the three and C the curliest (tighter curls). That led me to think that curly hair that grows out of the scalp a little more straight then curly would be more 3B or 3A than 3C. Coz if 3C comes out of the scalp straight (the way I'm understanding y'all) then exactly how would one be able to tell it from 2's. Coz 2's are wavy and so I'm sure when really short, 2's could be mistaken for a 1 till they get a bit longer and the waves show up.

Anyway, the only reason type might be necessary info to have is if one's looking for a regimen and needs to find products that might work on their hair. Then knowing what products work on a certain type of hair might be useful. But what's even better, IMO, is finding hair you admire that looks like yours, regardless of that it's called, and then learning from that person. I'm with Saida, what's in a name really? I'ma start calling my hair type R7Y. (If only I can convince Nikos to add that type in the list selection so I can put it in my profile.)
