This is a kinda cute story..
I was at Wally World (Walmart) checking out hair products (didn't buy anything) When I heard this soft voice behind me "Heeey Girl". I turn to see a cute lady that I didn't recognize. I said hello. She then said, “Girl, your hair sure has grown”. I said “Yeah it is a little longer” staring at her face, trying to recognize this person. I thought maybe it was someone I use to work with, maybe she has gained weight and that why I don’t recognize her. “What do you use on your hair these days”? she asked. I named a few shampoos and conditioners that I used. "How did you get those curls," (I was wearing a messy updo with a few tendrils hanging down) I told her I roller set my hair. “What hair color do you use”? I explain that I didn’t use commercial hair color. “So your hair is naturally that dark” I explained henna and indigo and started to realize that this was a hair interrogation. Finally I said “I’m sorry, but where do I know you from?” She then said, “ Oh, I never met you before, I just saw how long and pretty your hair was and I wanted to know what you did to it.”

The proof of perception difference it, my hair is not in good condition, (continuous hair drama) it’s a little passed shoulder length and a long way from what I call “long and pretty”. I think it proves that the perception on the street is a lot different than the perception on the board.

I guest I understand the perception. A long time ago I probably would have thought my hair was long but that changed years ago. I see more people with my hair length and I just think of it as average. Certainly, not long.

I do have to admit - It made me feel pretty "awesome" that someone thought my hair look good enough to ask questions. Yet it was driving me crazy for a few minutes, trying to figure out where I knew this woman from.

that's so cool!!! I was thinking that maybe the person had seen you in your album and had recognized you from that. I would have been so dumb founded with that one but super happy about the compliment!!!

It's true...a year ago I let my sister flat iron my hair...it was just a comfortable SL and shes like "so......do you think youre pretty because you have long hair?" ...I was so uncomfortable. I'm like...my hair's not even long like...and it was so thin too...oh boy....what will she say when my hair is like my siggy

The one time I went to JC Penney to get my hair done, the stylist was going on about how long my hair was. All the time I'm thinking, I don't think I'll be trusting her with my hair again if she thinks this is long. I really couldn't tell much about her hair because it was up.

She charged me a "long Hair fee" which I really didn't notice until later. I thought it was kinda high but I was on my way out of the country on vacation and very rushed. If I had seen the $15 fee before I left the mall, I would have demanded my money back.

I believe JC Penney would have agreed with me.

My mom thinks I'm nuts because I keep talking about this waist length hair I'm going to grow. Today we were driving someplace and we saw a woman with a healthy looking chin length bob. My mom said "your hair will look great when it grows to that length." I said yea "I have to get to chin length before I can get to waist length." She looked at me like I had grown three heads.

I definitely think hanging out here and seeing all these beautiful heads of hair has definitely changed my perception of what I can grow.:yep:

Don't worry ... you will get to waistlength. My family laughed at me 4 years ago when I said I was trying to grow my hair to waistlength. So now they are are like 'wooow', you hair is so long. Keep going girl, you will make it.

It's true..I just keep my goals to myself. They'll see it when it gets there.

I stopped talking about hair to other people also. Even after they see your results they make fun of you. I've had people asked questions and then get together later and laugh about the answers. One of girlfriends said (in front of a group of people) I did so much to my hair and that I tried to "get her on it" but it took too much time. I said I just wash and condition. She replied " and 20 minutes under a dryer and rinse and roller set then sit around it roller half a day. That's too much.

Sometimes I think they are just hating and lazy.
