SISTALOCS: what's the difference and pictures please

The price depends on where you are and what consultant you select. I paid about $600 initially and had about 7inches of hair including relaxer. I checked out the consultant section on the website www.sisterlocks.com and I also asked everyone I came across with sisterlocks who there consultant was and whether or not they were happy with the service they received. I'm so pleased to see so many people on the board seem to be cool with locking. Maybe I'll stop just lurking around the board:yawn:

Wow $600?

How much does it cost to retwist?

How long are they now??

What did you do with the relaxed ends? how long did you keep them for?

Sorry this is so long!
I put a pic as my avatar. I will experiment more this evening with pics. I get my roots tightened every 5 weeks because my hair is so soft that if I go any longer I end up with this halo of loose hair. It also depends on how fast your hair grows. I pay $95 every session. I've took the retightening class when I had my first set and I used to do my hair on my own except for twice yearly "check ups". Although that was easier financially because I was a college student, I don't feel it's worth the effort now. I have two ladies who can finish my whole head in an hour which I like better than spending several hours on it my self.
I still have my relaxed ends at 8 months. I keep my hair curly or wavy by braid setting or roller setting so it still blends pretty well. I am in no hurry to cut them off as right now my hair is only about next length. They will never lock anyway so I figured I might as well hold off. One of my sisterlocks inspirations is a blog I regularly read. If you want to see how they look with relaxer check out some of the earlies posts in Brunsli's blog at www.brunsli.blogspot.com

I'm tempted, yup, real tempted!

Wow, great thread!!!
Those are gorgeous hairstyles!!! I think that in a couple of years I will have the sistalocs:yep:

wow tallen - that's a lot for a retightening session. i only pay $25-30 every 6 weeks any my consultant is a master consultant. My initial installation was only a little less than yours but I think that it's been worth it. I love my locs, how unique they are and all the question I get when I go out. People are often sincerely interested because they just aren't sure what they are. The style is so easy and carefree - and knowing my hair will be BSL in a few years with virtually no maintenance is a fun and motivating thought. I truly love my sisterlocks.

The initial price throws people off I know...but add up your monthly products purchases, $$ for relaxers, braids, weave hair, salon visits, etc. and you will see that the up front cost sounds harsh but it is truly an investment in the end. ESPECIALLY if you choose to maintain yourself - then you have an easy and free style whose beauty will only grow. Outside of retightenings my hair requires conditioner, shampoo and a bit of oil - that's it.

Just my 2 cents for those interested. Put the cost into perspective - you are purchasing a style for a lifetime...

Wow sistalocs are gorgeous! Do you have to be natural to get sistalocs?

no. many women choose to sisterlock with relaxed hair (starting w/ a few inches of new growth) but the relaxed ends will never lock. Most wait until their sisterlocks are at an exceptable length and cut off the relaxed ends or do it gradually. In the meantime the relaxed hair can still be flatironed, curled and rollerset like before. BlessedGemLady started w/ relaxed hair: http://blessedgemlady.blogspot.com/

It's pics like these and the many blogs & fotkis I've visited in the past few weeks that have made my decision very easy.....SisterLocks here I come!!!!!

I hear you :yep:
I am going to start my braidlocs soon.
I miss having my hair loc'd.
I am glad that I cut them off, but I still miss having them so braidlocs will give me a similar look w/o the high price tag

Okay, this will probably be my next step after I reach my hair goals and spend some time enjoying my loose natural hair+be in the position financially. Ohh, I can't wait! If I do sisterlock, I'm going to get some colors thrown in. Great thread!

sisterlocks are smaller than most traditional dreadlocks. they are patented so only those who have paid to receive the training can perform the service. they also typically cost more than traditional locs. they are started with a woven pattern, not comb coils, palm rolling, product (beeswax,)etc. they are also the only locs that can be started on relaxed hair. sisterlocks also provide a larger variety of style options. check out my album and here is a great link:
