What's the rest of the story behind this . . . obviously this woman had someone who didn't know what they were doing trying to give her a relaxer . . . this pic is not inevitable for those of us who are relaxed . . . .
 
Quite Disturbing...but yes you must give a story to go along with this...cuz some people life and die by perms and managed to leave with a head full of relaxed hair :)

She must have felt some kind of burning sensation before things got that bad. Maybe it's an allergic reaction
 
I remember that! She didn't neutralize after the relaxer. She only brought the relaxer, not the kit. She said the instructions on the jar didn't say anything about neturalizing so she didn't. That damage took months too occur. This picture is what made me start using ACV rinses post relaxer to help me neutralize as well as using the neutralizing poo for the next few washes. :yep:

what kind of relaxer would not state to "neutralize" after initial relaxer application? unless the company assumed that the customer should already know that through common sense:look: but I digress the directions should be very specific for self relaxers and professionals. Otherwise you will end up looking like that lady in the pic:nono:

She couldn't produce the jar and all of their other jars had the proper instructions. Personally, I think she didn't understand what it meant to neutralize so she just used regular poo.

ouch:blush:... that probably made the hair strands just give up all together and exit her scalp. I honestly don't think I neutralize enough when using neutralizing shampoo.. b/c I read somewhere on this forum that the chemicals can actually get into the root so I see why you do your ACV rinses in addition to regular neutralizing poo to ensure all traces of chemical are no more.
 
I remember this story. She didn't follow instruction and is in the process of sueing the relaxer co.

Not enough to make me go natural though. Some stuff is just common sense. This was not her first relaxer. Let me see if i can find the story.
 
I hate that this happened to her but that pic or her story is not enough to make me want to go natural. I had a slick-bald spot once from not neutralizing and rinsing properly and that was not enough to make me go natural either. It was my mistake, not the relaxers and I am certain and careful to never repeat it.

Might sound crazy but I wouldn't mind seeing a before pic. :look:
 
I have not neutralized after a relaxer and my hair only become very dry and brittle..........

I tried to look at the story that goes with the picture and it is in another language other than English- so i guess we will never know the whole story!
 
yea i remember seeing this pic....but this didnt just happen overnight and i think that even if the one bottle of relaxer she purchased didnt say anything about neutralizing..i mean i would think that she wouldve discussed this with someone even after...and did some corrective measures to wash the relaxer out...this had to take months for her to end up like this....
and plus i have to wonder if she had just started relaxing and just didnt know or what...i mean it had to be someone that she came in contact with that relaxes there hair...


but no its not enough reason for anyone to go natural..

Well seeing that her scalp is actually scarred up I don't think it took time for this to happen. It looks like whatever scarred her scalp was bad enough to remove all the hair at once like she didn't even try to wash it out or something. I think even if she had just rinsed with water enough of the chemicals would have been removed to keep from damaging her scalp. Just think about it, if it was bad enough to damage skin of course the hair would have severely damaged and fall out. I don't think she just "didn't neutralize". Her condition looks more like she didn't rinse, wash neutralize or anything. It looks like she tried to deep condition overnight with the relaxer or something. If that's what she claims then I would only believe that it was a bad batch (which could only be proved if she had done everything right) or that it was an allergic reaction. Either way, I don't think that will happen if you simply don't neutralize, yes your hair will suffer but I don't think your scalp will scar, etc. I don't believe it. I think it was Sistaslick who said that water will neutralize your hair enough to stop the chemicals from working but that neutralizing shampoo brought the Ph level back to normal and closed the cuticle, i think it was her. Anyway :ohwell:, not convincing.
 
I seriously doubt that the lady in the pic only did not neutralize for it to get that bad :nono:. Seems to me like this lady did not wash the relaxer out at all! I survived the Rio relaxer and even that did not make all of my hair fall out. It's terrible and I feel for her, but this incident would not deter me from using relaxers all together.

I've been Eyeing that JustForMe Texture Softener.

But um... even if specific "detailed enough so a non-english-speaking-blind-retarded child with no eyes-no fingers or toes to read braille with person can apply this at home" instructions were not given, there is always an 800 number on major product lines packaging to call.

I seriously don't understand how this woman could let this issue go FOR MONTHS unchecked. She had to know something was going on. Why not go to a salon to ask a question, or a doctor, or a friend?

This is not the first week after hair straightening chemicals were invented. I'm sorry...but there is no excuse for this.

That is like putting hair bleach in your hair and not washing it out and suing the company because the bleach made your hair white and fall out, and you had burns.

Ridiculous.

I think I'd feel worse had she gone to a salon and had a professional screw her up... but dangit, she had to feel something along the way.

This reminds me of that episode of Martin when Gina had to work at Shenene's (sp) beauty salon for basketball tickets and did a perm on this lady named Marva but forgot to neutrualize. :nono:

Had to bring that up.
 
I have washed out many of relaxers without neutralizing and my hair never fell out and honestly didnt have any adverse reaction.

I think she either had an allergic reaction / or a really really old relaxer / or didnt wash it out.

Her case should be thrown out!
 
There is a picture somewhere floating around about a lady who had a reaction to hair dye and her head was swollen 2 times its normal size :nono:. This reminds me of that.

Reading is fundamental :nono:
If people are going to use chemical products and even if not, always do your research. Read the labels, read the fine print, read the instructions even if you think you know.

I hope that lady's hair grew back and her scalp recovered :yep:

I think I will copy your practice of neutralizing and ACV shampoos post relaxer.
