:lachen: I have to laugh at myself because my hair has looked like straight crap twice now. Once I had to go to work looking a shetty mess because of an ugly braidout and then this weekend I pincurled my hair and the curls fell in 2.2 minutes and I looked like a straggling dog. bahahahaha!! Oh well, buns and flexirods will have to be my styles until my hair gets past shoulder length. BOOOOOO!!!

Same here. To the point to where one of my friends wrote Bantu with a red line and circle through it on a poster and put it up in my bathroom. :lachen:

But I WILL NOT give up!!!

LOL, that is NOT RIGHT!:lachen::lachen:

I'm with y'all on this, though, any time I attempt pin curls/bantu knots/braidouts, it looks a hot mess on me. Has anyone with shoulder length or shorter hair been able to do one of these styles successfully??

Girl don't feel bad. I'm sure we have all looked a HAM experimenting with new styles:lol: . Join the club!

With me having type very frizzy, cottony, bushy 4a/b hair the only thing that works when doing braid outs is a very good leave in conditioner like lacio lacio and a serum like redken heat glide. I also like pantene oil cream moisturizer and NTM silk touch. I wash my hair and deep condition. After that I make about 6 to 8 braids and for each braid i apply the leave-in and serum. On the ends I make sure I put even more serum because they tend to get bushy. Airdry and my hair is shiny and soft. Sleeping in a silk bonnet is great for keeping it up for me because I don't have to comb for a week!!!

:) :( Soooooooooo I'm not alone!!:D :( I don't know whether to be happy or sad!!! I'm really upset with my pincurls because when I first took them down, it looked like they had the potential to be really cute. Am I supposed to be using some kind of light setting lotion or mousse to give them hold? I can't figure out why some of my hair was pin straight and other parts were wavy?

you aint alone... I am hair challenged :nono: thank goodness for hairdressers, phony ponies and wigs. I try to do braid outs and stuff :ohwell: no such luck

That's too funny!!! :lachen: :lachen: :lachen:

I definitely need one of those posters because my bantu knots look ridiculous. For some reason, it worked while I was transistioning and then as soon as I went natural, it started looking a HAM. No one's gonna ask me if I'm Nikos' cousin, lol.

Cayenne, I'm sure you will master braidouts and pincurls soon.

Sorry to hear about your woes.

I use a little leave-in conditioner on each section before I curl it. How many pincurls/braids did you make?

I did about 10 or 11. I followed the instructions of MsReiko. I believe that's how her name is spelled. I put some NTM and oil to seal on each section, twisted and pincurled. The thing is...I didn't sleep overnight on them. I did it in the morning and left it up for about 3 hours. Each section had a combo of wavy, stringy, and straight hair. I'm thinking it would work better if I sleep overnight. I'll try it again. Thanks for the conditioner tip.

Thanks to everyone else for their responses and well wishes. ;)

Hey, Cayenne!

Girl, I feel you; I tried pincurls just Saturday and looked a HAM, too! I wound up just pulling my hair back since I was going to be outside most of the day, but I was suprised at how I got wavy hair at the top and then straight hair at the bottom; it was not cute!

On the other hand, my bantu knots turn out pretty cute; the first couple of times I did it, the curls were way too tight because I made it too wet. I found I get the best results after about an hour or so of having it up rather than doing it at night and using a light, light spritz of water. It was a great 'do during my relaxer stretch, which was 8 weeks, but long for me.

Hope you try again because it does get better.

BTW, lengthwise, my hair is just grazing my shoulders.

My BSL hair is fine and on the thin side. I tried to do twists this weekend and my mom said I looked like Topsy, sigh. It wasn't cute, but I get an A for effort.

I get a decent braidout when I do one french braid right through the middle, however. I don't think a lot of individual braids would produce as balanced a result. You might want to give a french braid a try!

The bolded is probably your problem. Every time I've ever done pincurls or braidouts, I've slept on them. I don't think 3 hours is enough time for your hair to set and hold the style. I'd try it again and leave them in overnight.

I did some pincurls last night. Most of them came out ok there's always one or two that fishtail. :ohwell:

Well I tried to do pincurls. I did one on each side of my head. The Left Side turned out allright but the Right Side was a HAM. My DH looked at me and started laughing and saying "What's up Side Show Bob." Needless to say I pinned it up and took myself to work.

I'm cracking up at the sideshow bob comment. I'm sorry.

I haven't given up on these hairstyles. I think I just have to wait until its longer before I'll actually like them on me.

I see two problems here. First, there is no twisting involved in pincurling. Each curl should be rolled and pinned in place. Second, three hours is not nearly enough time for the curls to set, unless you apply heat afterwards.

O.K. after I hearing u guys talk I need to see if I am doing my pincurls wright. I thought they were cute but was I mistaking? Heres some pics please let me know.(sorry not trying to hijack thread but would like to know.)

I slept on mine and they came out looking a H.A.M. just like Cayenne described.

I tried them last night again... and I'm totally unsatisfied.

I haven't tried pin curls in awhile, but my braidouts and twistouts suck. I should call 'em braidINs 'cause I ain't going out like that. :nono2:

:lachen::lachen: I don't even attempt to do those. The most I can do now are some decent rollersets but I don't sleep on them. I put them in before I shower and take them out once I get to school.

I agree you need more than 3 hours for twist/braid outs too. I get great results using KeraCare setting lotion + going under the dryer if I need to be ready in less than 2 hours, but hair MUST be completely dry. As a matter of fact I’m under the hood right now.:yep:

Mine are hit and miss too, more often miss than hit lol. I think my technique was wrong in the past because the very last time i did my pincurls they came out perfectly. I wasn't using my fingers like a roller before and that is what made the difference this time.

Aren't these bantus?

I thought they were pincurls well atleast thats how the tutorial said to do it. when i tried bantus they were tighter and wrapped all the way around eachother, I am a newbie so if this is the wrong way can anyone point me in the direction of a good tutorial.
