Ladies I am new to this forum and I need your help.

I have this gap in the back of my head; my hair is thin in this area. Is there anyway that I can get the middle to catch up with the rest of the growth that I have or do I have to cut it?

you can cover it up by bunning, baggying, watever until the gap closes: i did that w/ my lil sis in her hair album: or you can cut it: its up 2 u.

*off topic*
Hey Joi....sorry I dont have any advice but I just wanted to tell you I remember seeing the starting length of your hair on BHM and it has grew alot! Congrad's.

There are many ladies here who had the same problem so I know you will get a lot of tips. I remember a particular lady who used bun everyday or 5 days per week for 3 months and her hair grew out full and thick, which she later trimmed to even it out. She never had that problem again.

Thank You 4NG. I don't want to cut it. I am trying to get to BSL and I am tracking it. I guess once I get there I will cut it if it looks too bad. Thanks again.

Hmmmm.... sounds like I need to get the sock bun back out. Thanks

It's natuaral lift up your hair in the back and look at the shape and growth pattern, you have a upsidedown V growth patternI think you would be best to cut it.

I actually had the same problem a few months ago... I've been wearing my hair up for most of the summer and I don't use direct heat anymore. This combined with low manipulation has allowed my thin section to grow in nicely. It's still a little thinner than the rest of my hair, but it's gotten noticeably better. I plan to keep 'protective styling' until I surpass my first goal of full APL and then trim even to start my quest for full BSL! Given that your hair looks a lot like mine did, I'm inclined to think this might work for you too... so HTH! :yep:

I had a dirty gap, look in my july 2006 album, I never really knew it was that bad as I use to rollerset is and have a lot of curls, but one day I wore it straight and I was super shocked. I decided to cut it, it was hard at first but a year later and I am past my original length, thus hiding it with rollerstes is one option, or cutting it is another. I felt better after the cut...

Hairmaster, Hair Peace, and Diya

Thank you ladies for your advice. As much as I'd hate to cut it, this seems to be the way to go. I think I will start bunning again and then I will cut it at the end of the year :wallbash:. I know in order to have healthy and nice looking hair I will have to take the good with the bad.

I am so glad I got a chance to see your fotki. I thought I was the only one with this problem. The inverted V is something else. I am going to go back through and read your journals too. Thanks again.

No probs, god bless!

Ms. Joi,

I think the baggying method for you. Or perhaps baggying and relaxer stretch. You may be already doing that. Any who I don't have much advice but I wish you th best of luck of!

I have this same problem. I have cut it even in the past only to have it grow back the same way. So for now, I won't be cutting it agan until I reach a certain length. The gap has started to fill in though (view some of the pictures in my fotki). I think stretching my relaxers have helped a great deal. I've also been putting BT on that area (when I remember to do it ) as well.

i think i have an upside V growth pattern and i have the same problem...ive trimmed/cut to even out only for it to grow back the same way...so i dont think trimming will resolve the issue...im still looking for feedback ....

I had the exact same problem. At first, I thought that it was just my hair's "growing pattern." After every relaxer, I was trimming 1 to 2 inches of growth off my front and sides so that they would be even with my shorter, middle, back length. This caused me to be stuck at shoulder length...FOR YEARS. I finally realized that my hair did not grow that way, but it was just breaking off in that section. Here's what helped me:

1) I relax my nape area last.
2) I make sure my ends (especially the back) are kept moisturized.
3) I don't let my ends rub against my clothing. (This is very important!)
4) No direct heat, ever.
5) I sleep with a satin scarf and/or bonnet
6) I am more gentle with detangling.

Hope this helps.

Hi there. I had the same problem, mine was caused by stress and those darn ouchless ponytail holders. You don't have to cut it, not after you've come so far. Get a trim, tell the hairdresser do not even it out. And just keep getting you regular trims until it fills in and believe me it will. It is a set back on your quest to BSL, but its better than cutting it to shoulder length and starting all over again. And don't forget, Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize !!!! Good Luck sister girl.

There is hope . I do go days without wearing my bonnet/wrapping. I will be sure to change that along with the ouchless ponytail makers. I know that I don't care for my hair like I should 100% of the time, but there is a change coming :lachen:. Thank you all. I feel so welcomed :yep:.
