I am trying to find out how much protein do you add to your relaxer when you texturize, I tried to search it but it's acting up so if anyone knows please share the info?

I use a teaspoon of silk amino acid (liquified-sp?)

2 questions: What hair type are you -- and what texture does it come out when you're using the teaspoon of SAA?

I don't put SAA in my relaxer, but I do put keratin in. :yep: It doesn't slow it down as much as you think. I'm gonna try adding a little oil next time. :yep:

Naturally a tight nappy corkscrew (is that 4A or 4B. Andre? Andre?) with some stick straight strands sprinkled throughout and a little looser corkscrew in the kitchen.

When all is said and done I get it to about a 3B. (looser ringlets)

Sorry no pics, but I roller set it this week and it's straight at the moment.

Ok Sareca, now the question:grin:: Where do you get/buy Keratin? I want to buy Keratin oil too but I don't find a place to buy it from:ohwell:

I use pure protein from http://www.styleone.com. The ingredients are keratin, water and parabens. Pixel Lady uses keratin oil. I'll find the thread for you when the search engine is working again. :(

Next relaxer (in a couple weeks :yay:) I'm gonna add both the keratin and EFA oil from Aphogee. Both products say they can be added to relaxers, perms or color treatments.

Thanks Sareca, I asked Pixel Lady but she doesn't buy it online:nono:

Would you say this protein is better than the other proteins you've tried? Also can you just purchase the protein and not the moisturizing conditioner?

I added oil to mine and some Neutral Protein Filler (it has Keratin) and I got the smoothest, silkiest, straightest touch up ever. Great results. (sorry no pics:nono:) But it was great!!! My hair didn't get extra dry like it can after a touch up.

Thanks LadyEsquire :)

GH, I think keratin eroded by relaxers. I've only added this one to my relaxers. It's the only one I found that said specifically that it could be added to relaxers. :yep:

I use a mild relaxer mixed with Olive Oil, a teaspoon of Hydrolyzed Silk Protein, and a few squirts of Aphogee Keratin Reconstructor ------------- I neutralize with a neutralizing shampoo/vinegar blend, and follow with the same protein conditioner - perfection every time.

Your hair is sooo cute! It's exactly what I want my texurized hair to look like. :lick:

Thanks! This sounds like a good idea. I'm going to try this today

What does adding protein to a relaxer do for the hair? I know that relaxers strip protein from the hair does adding protein lessing this effect?

TIA

I use keratin and grapeseed oil in mild Mizani BB. This does a great job of just stretching my shrinkage prone cotton hair out nicely and it feel soft and fluffy. Then I do the BKT which gets me straight. When it wears off, I'm back to stretched.

As I understand it, it prevents the hair from fully straightening, achieving the texlaxed look.

OP, I just use a mild relaxer. :look: It's not strong enough to get my hair super straight.

I have tried Aphogee Gree Tea Leave In and it slowed my relaxer down way too much. I prefer to use conditioner but try to use one that has some type hydrolyzed protein in it and/or SAA.

Using protein in your relaxer is beneficial in the same way that doing a pre-neutralizing protein step works when relaxing/touching up. The relaxer opens up your cuticle (which weakens hair along with the breaking of bonds in the hair) and this is the perfect time to get some protein deep into the strand to help keep the hair strong.

I think that it is also a great time to get some extra moisture in too which is why I love mixeing my relaxer with conditioner.

I do not add any protein to my relaxer when I texlax. I add conditioner to my relaxer and I use protein before I neutralize my hair.
