What is so GREAT about Phyto?????

Where is Kaddy BTW? She was really active when I first started lurking.

Vix doesn't use it (even though I have jabbed her in the arm about it)

I want to say Phyto is the devil :evilbanana:. It is the devil relaxer created by the devil himself in an old pot he keeps under the kitchen sink.
(Phyto gets more dogging out sometimes than love on the board:mob:)

but...I can't....

I love Phyto, it is the foundation for everything else I do with my hair.
I feel that one has to research all aspects for themselves, if this is the right product for them in terms of their scalp, their wallet, etc.

Again, different heads yields different results sometimes (hence, "Phyto is the devil relaxer").

I always refer people to the largest Phyto thread I think that exists on any hair board (thanks to Kaddy) - the "Everything You've Ever Wanted to Know about Phytorelaxer" - it has the good, the bad and the informative, all in one thread.

Good luck with your decision, either way you decide to go. Every head should be happy come touch up time. :)

I'm going to offer a different point of view. I've been using Phyto Index II for over 1 year. I was a former lye user and my hair is fine (aka thin) 4a/b. Initially, I was in LOVE with Phyto and ordered up 2 at a time from Amirah G and Polly. It gave me the straight results I like. However, I find that my hair eventually became drier than when I used to use lye relaxers. I also unintentionally underprocessed at some point and that part is REALLY dry. I currently have a bunch of different textures going on and I'm trying to decide on a good lye relaxer to do my next touch-up as well as a corrective. If you are a no-lye user I guess it will not make a difference but I am going back to lye. HTH!

This is exactly my situation. Phyto really dried my hair out. I am also looking for a lye alternative. Luvmesumhair, girl, you know how I feel about Phyto! :nono: I still got one half left sitting in cupboard that I don't know what to do with...!

... I have fine 3c hair and used phyto index 1 to texturize my hair today..it came out beautiful..lose curls and lots of body..the only thing i did was i only left it in for 7 minutes then I washed it out..i hope i got everything out because it was taking forever for it to wash out..but it works as an amazing texturizer

Was this your first time using Phyto 1? Did you just wash 7 go or straighten after? Let us know if you experience any dryness. TIA.

I felt that I needed to start over on my hair, so that was my biggest reason for going natural...after realizing that being natural was work as well...I decided to relax so that I could use all the things I had learned here, and start over on "fresh and healthy hair"...it worked. Yes my hair is all of those things...shiny, strong, I get compliments daily...I"m the same as you I don't want a setback, so I am extremely careful w/my hair and was lucky to find a new stylist who is as well

Thanks for your response Back2Relaxed. I'm glad it is working well for you. I was so eager to try it, then I started reading about how it started to dry out their hair after about a year. Would you mind if I PM you for details?

Experiencing dryness when using Phytorelaxer, I've heard that quite a bit on the board.

I personally never encountered that in almost 3 years of use. I'm genuine when I say this, I don't know what it is in the product that brings that experience for some folks. Again, different heads can yield different results.

Kaddy has primarily been on another site to my knowledge for a few years now (after the great banning of '05), but her fotki is still active if you wish to leave her a message.

hi i had no dryness at all..i just rubbed it into my hair for seven minutes exactly..and then i washed it out..i have had texturizer's at a hair dresser before and i alway had straight parts ..however with the phyto my hair still has alot alot alot of curl its just lighter..and yes it was my first time using this product..it was expensive ($88 canadian) but worth it

Same thing w/me as the previous two posters. I liked the way Phyto II smelled and the fact that it didn't burn (my head is usually on fire even w/ some sensitive scalp relaxers). and that it left body and i didnt have that stuck to the scalp bone straight look i usually got w/lye. But my hair was very noticeablely dull and dry and lacked elasticity and had problems holding curl. I went back to lye but now i only use mild when i was using regular before.

Everyone's hair is different and i think phyto is a good product, but my hair is already dry and it just made it drier. I recommended phyto to my aunt who just about every relaxer she has ever had has made her darn near baldheaded (she had been natural for a few years). So far its been doing fine for her and she hasn't complained of the dryness.

I do wonder if it has to do with how well and how long the neutralization step is done. The first time I used phyto I expected it would rinse and neutralize as relaxers I had used in the past, but it took a long time to rinse/poo out. My hair did seem fairly dry after the first use, but I stuck it out cause it wasn't plastered to my head like before and it didn't burn at all. Then I learned about using porosity control in the neutralizing process and that I wasn't letting the neutralizer sit on my hair long enough. Also, I stopped using the neutralizer poo in the kit and switched to Elucence neutralizing poo, which works much, much better for me. Once I got my neutralizing system down, the dryness has been a thing of the past.

Girl I would ask you to send it to me but half of that would not be enough. I used the whole jar on my new growth!

luvmesumhair - I'm glad it worked out for you. Your hair looks full & healthy in your Fotki. Very nice:yep:
Lavendar: I'm glad you conquered the dryness factor.

Has anyone contaced Phyto about the dryness issue? I think that's what I'm going to do...to see what they recommend.

Yes, I used Phyto I twice and both times i had dryness problems. the 2nd time i used ceramide/lipid conditioner after removing the relaxer. My hair still came out dry but dry with shine. It's hard to describe. The only thing that helps is me totally wetting my hair and putting elucence mb leave in.

I wish we could get a regime of the phyto users (esp. those w/o dry hair).
