What is so special about the Phyto perm? Has anyone out there had any BAD experiences with it and just CANNOT use it at all?

Has it really made a BIG DIFFERENCE in your haur since using it?

I am wondering if I should make the big change or not? I know it is a LOT OF MONEY so please let me know.

Well I will tell you that I just did a Phyto Monday. I felt the same way you do-very skeptical but...

I will say that I like it a lot. It is probably the best relaxer I've ever used. For one, aesthetics wise, it smells like flowers. None of that funny relaxer smell and it's kind of pink and cute and feminine. It mixes very smooth as well. I was concerned that it would not straighten that well but it has left my hair very, very straight (I like to be bone straight honestly). My hair does not feel all limp and thin how some relaxers leave you. My hair in my avatar is what it looked like after using the phyto. In one day I received 4 compliments on my hair and the comments were that it looked healthy and touchable. One compliment was from an actual stylists in the mall. My hair never looks like that when I do it myself. Last night I did a dusting and I was picking up big 'ol fistfulls of hair to clip that were nice and strong. I would recommend it. I know it is costly but...I think it's worth it.

For one, it never burns my scalp -- I do my hair myself so that is very important. Another thing, it leaves my hair as straight as I want it w/out feeling limp. If I have anything to say about it, I'll never go back to another relaxer.

Thanks ladies. When I went to lunch, I went to Sephora and brought it. I brought Index I. I am a 4a/b. I do not want my hair bone straight but not textlax either. I hope it works. $65.00 w/tax Whew!!!

you know, i LOVED ors relaxer for that - it didn't burn my scalp and it got my hair nicely-straightened...after about a week or so, my hair reverted :nono:

i would love to see if phyto could do me right where ors failed me. i figure if i'm only going to relax about 4x a year, why not spend the money? heck, salon trips cost more than that and, of course, most of us are doing our own thing because of salon-failure.

Bumping for more responses ladies. Please.

I want to know YOUR experiences. Is it a Yay or Nay for you.

You know you just called out my hair Twin right???? She will be in here in a minute. (Sareca)

I think Vix and MonaLisa use this relaxer also.

I wish I could help but i have never used it.

Funny, I also have ORS Lye (normal) at home in case I chicken out. I have used ORS No-Lye in the past. No complaints but thin hair afterwards. No body. Then again, the Dominicans were doing it and they can get your hair straight big time plus they leave it on a long time too. so...:perplexed I do not know. Which ORS were you using that your hair reverted?

I love phyto.. It doesn't burn and my hair comes out GREAT everything time. It always has body and straightness at the same time. I have NEVER used a relaxer that gave me these results.

I am glad it worked for you. Which index did you use and what hair type are you?

OK Thanks Letitia.

Sareca, I am waiting for you to get in here!

I knew I heard my name! I  Phyto. I've tried D&L, Optimum, TCB, Bone Straight, another one with a weird name, and none of them do what Phyto does! It's worth every penny. My hair basically does what I ask it to. It's straight when I want straight, curly when I want curly, it resists Texas humidity, and has body and life. If I didn't say so already I LoVE Phyto.

ETA: Some people end up underprocessed or having it not take at all. I'm texturized so that's my goal, but I have had it come out completely straight where ever I applied a lot of product. The instructions say apply generously and if you want straight hair that's what you have to do.

I'm going to offer a different point of view. I've been using Phyto Index II for over 1 year. I was a former lye user and my hair is fine (aka thin) 4a/b. Initially, I was in LOVE with Phyto and ordered up 2 at a time from Amirah G and Polly. It gave me the straight results I like. However, I find that my hair eventually became drier than when I used to use lye relaxers. I also unintentionally underprocessed at some point and that part is REALLY dry. I currently have a bunch of different textures going on and I'm trying to decide on a good lye relaxer to do my next touch-up as well as a corrective. If you are a no-lye user I guess it will not make a difference but I am going back to lye. HTH!

Off Topic: Love your hair pics in your siggy! Your hair is beautiful in every single picture!

I also use phyto (index II). I relax to about 80% (I still have deep waves when wet but can straighten easily with heat)

With phyto its not about how long you leave it on per se, but how much you actually use. For straight straight hair, you've got to apply very generously and leave it in for the max time.

I bust all kinds of time because I leave it on for 30-33 minutes, however, I also don't pack it on.

Phyto is the one relaxer that has never irritated my scalp. I can't use lye, it eats my scalp for lunch. Some no lye's I've used did the same thing. I tried TCB, Motions, Dark and Lovely, Gentle Treatment () and AtOne. AtOne was one I liked but could still do a number on my scalp.

I also don't base with phyto where I would have had to base with other relaxers.

The downside is washing it out, that part takes forever. I use a mix of 1 part vinegar:10 parts water and use that immediately after I rinse the relaxer out, then proceed with washing my hair.

I've used phyto since I've been here, I did a lot of research on it and once I tried it the first time, I really like it. Its a little expensive but I figure like this; how much would I pay going to a salon? So being that I also self relax, its very worth it to me.

When I started using it I was at ear length, I'm now at armpit length. Phyto isn't the one thing I credit to getting me there, but it is apart of the arsenal.

Vix doesn't use it (even though I have jabbed her in the arm about it)

I want to say Phyto is the devil :evilbanana:. It is the devil relaxer created by the devil himself in an old pot he keeps under the kitchen sink.
(Phyto gets more dogging out sometimes than love on the board:mob:)

but...I can't....

I love Phyto, it is the foundation for everything else I do with my hair.
I feel that one has to research all aspects for themselves, if this is the right product for them in terms of their scalp, their wallet, etc.

Again, different heads yields different results sometimes (hence, "Phyto is the devil relaxer").

I always refer people to the largest Phyto thread I think that exists on any hair board (thanks to Kaddy) - the "Everything You've Ever Wanted to Know about Phytorelaxer" - it has the good, the bad and the informative, all in one thread.

Good luck with your decision, either way you decide to go. Every head should be happy come touch up time. :)

I just had my 3rd relaxer w/Phyto 2 today! I have had many different relaxers, all professionally done, all mostly lye. I found out about Phyto b/c of this board, and sought out a stylist that used the product. Yes it costs more, but coming from being natural to going back to relaxed it wasn't about the price. I have been extremely happy w/the results each time. My hair is 4a, but super thick and coarse...and this relaxer straightens it out...not bone straight, but straight...and it is still thick and full of body and life....I would never relax w/anything else. I haven't noticed any dryness w/this perm, but always did in the past w/lye! But each head of hair is different...Good luck w/your Phyto!

Oh yeah and it hasn't burned yet?

Back2relaxed: what prompted you to relax again? I have a box of Phyto1 sitting in my closet, that I am tempted to try, but I really like my hair now--the way it feels etc. & would hate to have a set back after all of this time:ohwell: How does your hair feel? Is it shiny? strong? TIA

I wish it was easy for us to just wash our hair - then flat iron and achieve that bouncy, glossy hair that looks like a perm. All in simple steps - by ourselves!!

Hi I have been lurking on this board for a couple of months now..and i appreciate the advice alot. I have fine 3c hair and used phyto index 1 to texturize my hair today..it came out beautiful..lose curls and lots of body..the only thing i did was i only left it in for 7 minutes then I washed it out..i hope i got everything out because it was taking forever for it to wash out..but it works as an amazing texturizer

I felt that I needed to start over on my hair, so that was my biggest reason for going natural...after realizing that being natural was work as well...I decided to relax so that I could use all the things I had learned here, and start over on "fresh and healthy hair"...it worked. Yes my hair is all of those things...shiny, strong, I get compliments daily...I"m the same as you I don't want a setback, so I am extremely careful w/my hair and was lucky to find a new stylist who is as well
