How do you keep your roots soft and manageable during stretches?

Avocado butter-fnwl
coconut oil- the coconut cream from fnwl
castor oil- homehealth brand

I'm 4 months post and they all helped me. Not all at one time of couse:grin:

I make sure I DC at least once I week. I rollerset on magnetic rollers and sit under a dryer for about an hour. Then I flat iron the roots and it's pretty much all good after that!

I have to use plenty of oil to keep my new growth soft. I like Africa's best and NOW coconut oil. Also, Mane-N-Tail Detangler works good as well on my new growth. After putting this stuff on I comb through my new growth very, very lightly with a wide tooth comb (Just the new growth, not into the relaxed part of my hair). It works for me.

After 6 weeks post, this might be what I need...

I have used this before and it is good! My problem isn't detangling...

My problem is how do I keep my roots soft day to day until I wash again! In the middle and back of my head I am 4b and when I comb post 6 weeks relaxer I see breakage.

ahhhh....I will figure it out as I go along. I will try ajoyfuljoy method next wash. :yep:

Girl, I am approaching week 15 this Sunday. I feel your pain. Earlier on I would rollerset weekly and silk wrap afterwards. Then after week 10 or so, I barely do that, I started to co-wash more often...2 or 3x per week. Leave In is Giovanni Direct and seal with oil.

But I am not even gonna co-wash midweek anymore, I am simply going to continue prepoo-ing with coconut milk, honey, condish and evoo, and
deep conditioning under the dryer at least once a week.

Moisturize twice daily with s-curl, and evoo concentrating on the demarcation line, and slightly comb thru it to loosen coils.

I wash and DC twice a week and moisturize twice daily and DC. Between the DCing and the moisturizing my roots stay soft...but then again I don't comb outiside or wash day so I don't get breakgae from dryness.
You could try S-Curl or Sta-Sof-Fro

I wash and deep cond twice a week. Starting around 8 wks post I only comb my roots on wash days. Outside of my wash days I don't do anything to my roots except finger comb. I moisturize my ends twice a day. I prepoo overnight on Friday nights with one of my Dom cond and a little oil.

Look me and you both need to know I wish I would have come across this yesterday. My daughter is 10 wks post relaxer 1st I have every gone that long w/o relaxing her hair and it soooo much new growth it's sad....hard to comb. I washed it last night after hair hair being in cornrolls for two weeks and :nono: I could not really comb it. Part of me said just braid it back up but heck it took me 2 hours just to take the beads and braid out there was not way i was going to take 2 more hours and braid it again.

I will wait a couple more days and just go ahead and relax it I was trying to wait closer to school starting. I can't do that to her....let me stop I can't do it myself....just being lazy. I have to give it up to the women that strectch:notworthy

I need to know!:wallbash:

How is the coconut milk? I read about it briefly in another thread but never really got any feed back on it.

I know this is probably better asked under a different topic but what is the real purpose of stretching for people who get relaxers? Does it make your hair grow faster or does it just mentally help you by making it easier for you to see your "new growth" results?

It is good so you will not overlap your touch/ups. Also, giving your previous relaxed hair time to repair itself from the touch ups it receives and stronger hair.

The longer you stretch the less likely your are to overlap your relaxer.

I think streching also has to do with how fast your hair grows. Like for instance my friend tried to stretch for about 3 months and had 3.5 inches and COULD NOT do it anymore...while my hair grew about 1.5 inches in 3-4 months so it is really easier for me to stretch.

I relax my hair myself so the more newgrowth I see, the better chances I have of not overlapping my hair. Which in return gives me a better chance of combatting any "intentional" breakage from overlapping.

Also, the further you stretch, the thicker your hair gets.
