So Ive been wearing my hair pretty much pinned up in the back w/ a little sideways part, etc. (Ill have to put up a pic in my fotki.) Its not HORRIBLE but I know Im not looking as fly as I could. But I need to leave my hair alone cuz Im learning my hair reeeeeally just doesnt like to be messed with.

Newho so Im going to this little picnic tomorrow with a girlfriend of mine. I could tell she has been really distressed about how my hair has been looking, which is funny to me for some reason. So she emailed me this morning this WHOLE long paragraph about how she understands that Im going thru alot right now and she knows that its hard to put forth effort when so much is going on, etcetcetc...... but she wants me to feel cute at the picnic tomorrow so I should try to do something 'different' with my hair. :lachen: :lachen: :lachen: I was crackin up!!!! I was like oh, so you sayin my hair aint cute now?!?!? :p Its all love.. I just thought this was a funny story...

You know, it's funny. I've had several people come up to me, telling me that they are worried about me because I always wear my hair up in a bun or pinned up. I mean, they were SERIOUS!!! LOL!!!! One woman called me into her office. I thought something was really wrong. She asked me if I was o.k. I was like "wha??" I explained that I am working on the health of my hair and retaining length. She said that I look so much prettier with my hair down. I was like "wha??" Yes, people really have nerve, don't they. I mean, why do they take it personally when someone does something different to their hair? These people are truly serious! Then, they take it upon themselves to either criticize or belittle you about what you do to your hair! Even the janitor told me that I look better with my hair down! DAYYYUUUMMMM!!!!!:wallbash::rolleyes:

JT - Yah she could have emailed me like 'Look broad... we aint hanging out if you gonna be looking all crazy by the head... '

SP - I feel you! I honestly cant believe how many ppl feel compelled to 'worry' about whats going on with my hair situation!! Ppl at work, fam, friends, etc... I guess in some ways theyre just want to make sure I look my best... but sometimes its like comeon, ya'll. Its not like I got body odor....

LTL - Hey, whateva!! In about a year they all gonna be like WoooooOOOOooooW!! :D

CD - Yah Im not trippin over it... I thought it was funny!

She really tried her best to be tactful. :lachen::lachen: I'm glad you took this so well. Some women would have had a major attitude. Like the previous poster. Stay the course and next year they'll be like :spinning:

Cute story. It doesn't sound like she is jealous or overly concerned she just wants you to be on point. You said it yourself that you are not as fly as usual.

When there is any change people take notice and wonder wth is going on.

Keep doing you. :)

I wanna see the style!!!! I am sure that its cute and since I am here I guess I can understand the protective style especially at a picnic....But its sweet that she cares and wants what is best for you especially if you have been a superfly diva before, the pinning your hair up could be a drastic change for all of those that you know....I mean but you are still superfly:yep:

I hear this same thing all the time! "Angie, you really look so pretty with your hair down." Guess I don't look all that hot with my usual bun, but hey, my hair is growing, and that's all that matters! :drunk:

But why are the same people, who criticize how you take care of your hair (i.e. wearing buns all the time is gonna make your hair break off...washing your hair that much with make it fall out...etc.) the first ones to be like "What are you doing?" when they see your results?:wallbash:

That's funny...lol...I go through the same thing everyday. My friends and family really dislike me wearing half-wigs; espcially this curly one I had...they practically begged me to stop wearing it...so I did....and bought two new half wigs...lol. They're still upset, they rather have me wear my hair down; they say: "why don't you just go to the salon". And I always have to explain to them that I have plans and goals for my hair; they still don't get it.

A fellow "LHCFer" (who shall remain nameless, but you know who you are :spinning:) told me at the last DC gathering that "we" need to see your hair OUT next time - WHATEVER!

My motto: Just keep doing U and let me do ME!

Yeah, that's what I'm sayin'. I wore my hair down a few weeks after my relaxer and everyone was like "Whooooaaaaaaa!! Your hair has grown and it's thick!" I thought to myself, "yeah, DUH...how do you think it got like this? All the haters hatin' on my bun...wait 'til ya'll see me next year!":drunk:

I feel you, gurl. And I'mma be at that next meeting cheering you on...:clapping:

I can relate: loved ones have pressured me to wear my real hair and get it "styled." Im protecting and hiding my hair until the end of this year and probably through half of next year too--Im staying focused & nothing will change my mind. I could see if you weren't combing or brushing your hair at all and looking a HAM--that's one thing. If i was yo friend, i wouldn't want to be seen seen with ya in that case either, lol. But you are taking care of your hair and styling it as you see fit--there's nothing wrong with that. If we want to wear a pony tail with tucked ends or a bun everyday, our loved ones and friends should support us because of the positive results we get as far as healthier hair and length retainment goes. I guess since she's your friend, you could wear it down or differently for the picnic to please her--it's like giving yourself a pass for a special occassion. I hope she'll be understanding and she wont expect you to keep doing it.

Exactly! And they're concerned with their jacked-up hair, worrying 'bout what you're doing with yours...:perplexed

Tell her to mind her damn business. If your hair is bothering her that much, she should offer to pay for you to get it done. If not, stfu. Do what you feel you need to do for your hair. Don't worry about her. And why did she send an email? She couldn't tell you to your face?

Somebody here actually told you that? Wow... They need to mind their business. I've never worn my hair out at a meeting either though. :look:

This is funny cause a friend told me flat out she is tired of my phony pony, LOL. She was like it's not like you don't have hair so why do you wear them. When I explained to her that not everyone who wears fake hair rocks them because they are near bald she wasn't buying it. IHO fake hair = no hair. I just laughed and explained my methods to her even more. May I add she e-mailed me this morning to remind me to send her the link to LHCF and Sistaslick's hair articles, LOL. I told her she'll be rocking a phony pony or bunning her hair after she sees all of this info, LOL.

She doesn't appear to be malicious, she probably just doesn't understand the big picture or your long term goals for your hair. I've also been told that my bun is not my most flattering hair style.

I know, that's odd, right? Everyone here should know by now about the power of protective styling...especially those on the Hide Your Hair challenge.:yep:

Aww man that is sooo messed up. I get comments like that all the time from my mom. Honestly to me the most important thing is that ur hair is healthy and that its getting longer. I dont know why people act like we cant look nice with a bun.

Girl you got me wondering now if people a saying anything about my hair. I'm walking around her with almost 9 wks ng with grays popping all in it swooped up showing my not so attractive kitchen. I have always been on point with my hair. Shoot, far as I'm concerned I'm on point now because it is healthier and thicker than it's ever been. However I do wear my hair down one day during the week. Whatever, just let them talk because when it is down we'll get tons of compliments.

Christa - Yah shes my homie... I know that deep down she was just looking out for me cuz she wants me to feel good about myself ya know? And we usually feel the best about ourselves when we look our best. So I know where she was coming from... its all love! Im gonna attempt to be cute tomorrow so I wont embarass her.. :p

BMore - Im not gonna lie to you: for like 2.5 seconds after I read that email I was like Awwwwwww nawwwwww... Im gonna set it off!! But I thought about it and was like this is my girl, we look out for one another all the time and she was just tryin to do me a solid. She knows Im growing my hair but I havent really went too far into detail w/ her as far as my methods, etc. Oh and she emailed me cuz we both were @ work and thats how we comm. during the day.. :)

Moni - Im like 100% that once I get my results everyone will eat their words. Aint nothing wrong w/ phony ponies!!!!

Jane - Yep like you said, let em talk. Then around May of 08 let em GAWK!!! :lachen: That was so corny!!!

I love ya'll...!
