If I Completely Stop Doing Anything To My Hair

What your motivation for doing this. I not sure but you could end up with some free formed dreads from not combing it.image.jpeg

By not washing you could end up with bugs like the homeless guy in the thread a couple weeks ago.

i know. i was thinking there would be a lot of shedding if i done it etc, it just seems like maybe i would get better growth if i just left it alone..
I would think this would leave your hair worst off. But if you don't want to comb or wash your hair maybe you would be better off with shorter hair. Longer hair means longer time spent and more effort on your part.

If you don't touch it it would probably still grow... but the amount you'd have to cut off (due to the previously mentioned matting from unmoved shed hairs, etc) and the possible scalp problems that might occur will probably leave you with less hair than desired.

You would retain length from the lack of manipulation, but it would most likely break off just as quickly from the lack of moisture. Then when you do eventually attempt to detangle, you would lose a lot of whatever growth you retained.

A much better alternative would be putting your hair in a long term protective style like box braids, cornrows, twists (with or without extensions) or even a sew in. You can leave your hair alone for 2-3 months doing the absolute minimum (wash it and oil your scalp as frequently, or infrequently :look:, as you like) and still retain pretty much all of your growth :yep:

ok but would i need to still comb and detangle it after washing in cornrows?

@jennifer30 ,

I agree with @SpicyPisces 100,000%.

I recommend getting crochet braids:
  1. They are healthy.
  2. You can get a style that looks VERY natural/realistic.
  3. Your hair is cornrowed underneath and thus VERY protected.
  4. The care for your own hair and care for the added crochet braids is EASY/MINIMAL.
Here's a picture of my first crochet install (it was installed too densely and then cut down and thinned a bit): https://theblossomingnaturalhairnew...st-protective-style-after-the-trim-down-3.jpg. The short length made maintenance/washing a BREEZE! I got the kind of hair that didn't tangle too much.

Caveat: If you do opt for this protective style, you must find someone who can install realistic-looking crochet braids, otherwise you can end up looking like Cousin It (too much hair installed, hair installed too thickly, etc.). Based on what you wrote, you would need to find the LOWEST MAINTENANCE CROCHET HAIR you can get, as some installed hair tangles easily, while other hair hardly tangles at all. Also, based on what you wrote, you might want to go with a long style that you can just wear in a ponytail OR a short style, getting the installed hair cut pretty short. The short style will make washing your hair and the crochet hair easier.

As I mentioned, both maintenance of your hair underneath and of the crochet hair is EASY. You will want to wash and moisturize your scalp and cornrows, wash the crochet hair as it gets dirty, and keep the crochet hair moisturized (can use a cheapie moisturizer or moisturizer specifically for installed hair).

Pineapple the hair at night and throw a large bonnet over it and call it a day.

im very low maintenance for about a year or 2. I wash once a week in a shower and bun. I air dry. This has really worked for me, but if I go too long I notice my hair is dry and it may start to break. I don't moisturize daily.

I pretty much spritz with water to smooth my bun. My hair is not in as good condition as when I used to do more. So you may suffer some damage
