I Officially Hate The Way I Look With Natural Hair

@Misseyl have you tried using Monistat on your edges. It has been a great help to me. You can add some coconut oil for moisture because it's a little drying, apply to edges then massage.

at home or a salon my flatiron takes at min 2 hours...my hair is denseeeee.....i finally have the length and never thought i would say this but i may go back to relaxers...the amount of heat I'm using is damaging my progress

when i rollerset my roots are still puffy a bit and need a touch of the flatiron even if i dont flatiron the length of my hair..if i were relaxed the amount of heat would be cut down dramatically...

i have all this hair but the heat needed to straighten every two weeks is damaging my hair...im at a crossroads....not sure if i can be a straight natural and not have severe heat damage...

and i need at least 2-3 passés of the flatiron to get the silky press....

While I was transitioning, I decided that if I ever wanted to be a straight natural, I'd use a hot comb. Flat ironing takes forever and my hair ain't even thick. I can't imagine what it must be like for people with dense thick hair. Also, I feel like the results are better with a hot comb.

My first transition, all I did was hot comb my roots and flat iron the length. One pass each. The only reason I didn't do it this time (3rd transition) was cuz I wanted to see my hair pattern with no heat damage. I don't blow dry or roller set because my hair is fine (though dense in some areas) and I can't take all the manipulation. And once I go through the trouble of blow drying or roller setting, that better be the style cuz I'm done!

Will your stylist use a hot comb? If you try it at home, go with an electric one. Don't nobody need all that ish in they house (the little stove, different size combs, etc) unless they're really committed.

What ever you do, don't get a BKT. The curls don't come back to their natural state and your hair will start breaking after a while.

This happened to me as much as I didn't want it to. I read and researched extensively before doing it but my hair still broke off over several months. I am very happy for the ladies who have done well with bkt and I am very envious. But IMHO be careful if you have fine strands....

I understand OP. I've been natural for about 2 years and this stage always gets frustrating for me. I hit the 2-3 year mark before and texlaxed. It was great at first then it was a hot mess. Im going to stick it out and just wear braidouts for now but I guess my 2 cents is if you relax just go all the way. Texlaxing will have your hair breaking off and it's still a pain to detangle.

Wanted to check in with OP

What are your thoughts? I'm also at a crossroads for my hair

i bought a high quality flatiron and some straightening products.

its better. next step is a few clip ins for glamorous length.

im over it. gonna figure out how to stay straight without burning all my hair off. probably a sew in in my future too. i conceded defeat.
