Miss
Claudies
Moisturizing Quinoa Coffee Hair creme. Made my hair dry. Had to rewash my hair.
Deep Conditioning hair mask - Not a bad conditioner. Just didn't make my hair soft. 16 0z of it. Maybe I can mix it with something.
Khave leave-in- not enough moisture for my hair.

I'll just have to go back to conditioners with cones. I'll put these away until I get my hair cut.

Miss: Using Super Wet gel with my leave in. I get weird crusty bits in my hair after a few days.

Since I have to choose between the protein and glycerin free Super Wet gel and my holy grail leave in, Super Wet loses. Back to Ecostyler.

Hit:
Nature's Way's Coconut Oil. I always went with cheaper brands but this was on BOGO at my local store. Its a better quality than the ones I've been using previously
Taliah Waajid hairline Help!- I was looking for Curls Control Paste but found this instead. It doesn't smooth down the baby hairs ala Chilli, but it really tames them down for my top knots. It also doesn't leave a hard residue, or flakes even with daily use. It's very easy to work in with a soft bristle brush. Still waiting to try Curls Control Paste though so that I could lay my baby hairs, but this has been working great in the meantime.

 HIT: Karen's Body Beautiful Hair Blossom Moisture Mist Pomegrante and Guava--I really like this for doing my braid and twist outs. After using SMCES and having that totally draw up my hair EACH TIME, I'm super impressed with the fact that my hair stays pretty stretched with this. Even if my twist out loses definition in this humid weather, my 'fro stays big and soft. I haven't decided if I like the scent or not. But I love the product. I hate that Target stopped carrying it in store though. :ohwell:

Extra wide barrel curlformers. I used to love the regular curlformers but those take too long for the purpose of stretching my hair. These are larger and hold more hair so I'm done in about 15mins to half hour. The only con is that they dont grip my roots as tightly but that just may be my technique. Another thing, they're harder to grip at the base to hold it open and tighten on the roots, but I'll figure it out eventually.

On The Fence:
Creme of Nature argan oil style and shine foaming mousse. I need to give this another go when I get my new and larger soft bonnet dryer that'll dry my hair evenly. The curls I had that had dried were soft and defined, but the ones that were maybe 80-90% dry have a sticky feel to them.

Edited to add:

Also on the fence: SM Tahitian noni and monoi weekly therapy. It made my hair soft while it was in there, but it didn't feel much like a protein treatment. Will have to try it a few more times, but it's such a small bottle and I had to use quite a bit so I probably won't repurchase.

Galactic Hit: Vanilla Silk Moisture Dream
I didn't need very much of it for this effectiveness.

Jury's still out on Vanilla Silk Chocolate Bliss conditioner
This left some kind of weird coating. I may not have completely rinsed the conditioner all out....but I also used a small amount. I'll try to mess with it a few more times.

Okay ladies this is long one

Continued Hits:

1) Sweet Nature by Eddie Admire Mask is just plain awesomeness in a jar. No matter what I do to my hair this stuff never fails to bring it back to life. It's also the only protein mask I know of that leaves my hair butter soft.

2) CC's NATURALS All Goodness Butter, the only whipped butter to survive the warm weather staying fluffy. I usually use it to "grease" my dry scalp and seal my ends but I recently tried it as a pre-poo and WOW, just wow. I usually use CC's Coconut whipped fluff to pre-poo but this melted my knots just as fast. This is definitely on my Black Friday list.

New Hits:

1) SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Shampoo (new staple), Mist, Milk and Curl Enhancing Smoothie.

2) SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus BODY Lotion, Oil, and Butter worked great in the l.o.c method. I think I like the body lotion as a leave-in more than the hair milk.

3) Shea Moisture Yucca & Plantain Anti-Breakage Frizz-Free line Mask, Mist and Milk were great. I also tried and liked the mask as styler. Next SheaMoisture BOGO I'll try the shampoo and revisit the conditioner in this line.

4) Shea Moisture Olive & Marula Baby Head-to-Toe Lotion as a leave-in/moisturizer. My son's hair stays soft and shine all day.

5) Soultanicals Marula Melon Moisture Guru and Moisture Appeal Hydrate & Seal combo, one word, JUICY!! They were listed as limited editions but I really hope they become a permanent part of the Soultanicals line, because they are definite staples for me.

On the Fence:

SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Gel Soufflé. It gave me some soft, shiny twists but after three days of awesome the final result was an anemic twist-out. Also my one attempt at using it for a wash-n-go was a wash-n-NO!! I'm not ready to count this one out yet so I'll continue to experiment with different uses and techniques. Suggestions are welcome.

New Misses:

1) SheaMoisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner was a HUGE Miss; ZERO slip, ZERO moisture, ZERO softness NO BUENO!! The shampoo left my hair so soft, smooth, shine and fluffy then this stuff jacked it up somethin' aweful. My hair did a complete 180 and after rinsing it out I was left with hard, rough, dry and dull strands. However on a positive note, my Grandma loved it as a body lotion so it was a hit for her.

2) Another HUGE Miss was Soultanicals Detangling Power Hydrating Shower Shampoo. It had some slip, the watery texture was great for getting down to hair roots and the scent was pleasant. It seemed mild at first and even had some soft foamy suds. Unfortunately once rinsed out this dried my hair out so much I had to DC three times in three days just to get my hair to feel okay. It was the Admire mask from Sweet Nature by Eddie that ultimately rescued my hair from the brink. One more day of crispity, curnchity desert dry tumbleweed for hair and I would've done a BIG big chop and just rock the fade I had 12 years ago. It was that serious. I literally cried huge, heaving, sobbing bitter tears because I thought my hair was permanently ruined. :(I'm never letting this stuff near my strands again!!

@NappyKinks

Interesting that you are using SM body lotions as hair products. The ingredients always seemed like they would work well for my hair but I never had the balls to try it! I may actually consider giving it a try now. Any build up issues?

I'm not sure about the Coconut & Hibiscus body butter since I've only use it this way after washing as the last step in the l.o.c method so not enough to cause build up, but I've used the C&H lotion as the first step and as a refresher for third and fourth day hair without build up issues.

The lotion is more runny than the hair milk so it absorbs quickly and is very moisturizing, best part is it's a dollar cheaper than the milk and comes in a 13oz bottle while the milk is only 8oz.

I'm in love with the oil because it's thin enough to absorb quickly but thick enough to coat strands so my hair stays soft and shine all day without being weighed down. Also a little goes a long way so I'm going to have this 8oz bottle for a long time. Since I use it sparingly I haven't had any build up. It also works as a pre-poo.

The only down side is the fragrance. They smell just like the rest of the Coconut & Hibiscus line but the scent is stronger than the hair products, so if you're sensitive to fragrances you might want to smell them first.

The Olive & Marula line is for babies so it's not as strongly scented. The lotion is thick and emollient you can feel the moisture and the oils but it's not greasy. A little goes a long way as well. Since my son wets his hair everyday in the shower he hasn't had any build up. I haven't used it enough to notice any build up either. I'm buying a few next BOGO so I can get one for me to use then I'll know for sure if it builds up or not.

I also have the SM Raw Shea, Chamomile & Argan as well as the Red Bush & Babassu baby lotions, but I haven't opened them yet. Once my son finishes the Olive & Marula line I'll try them. The ingredients are almost identical the only difference being the oils in their names so they should work as well as the O&M line. HTH

BRB's strawberry DC It did absolutely nothing for my hair.
BRB's marshmallow gel cream. I loved the original formulation that contained flaxseed gel. This version was less moisturizing and had no frizz control.

APB products.

Neem Oil as an Oil Soak (once you get over and deal with the scent)

But I can't, I can't

I know what people say about mustard oil but honestly, I can't smell it. Plus I dilute it with castor and other oils and have mixed in in fragrant conditioners so that might be why. The brand came from an Indian store so maybe it's different that what others are using... I almost wanted to curse this board out for not stressing the extremity of neem oil's smell though. I don't return hair items very often but that smell was so offensive it made me angry  No matter what I put it in or added to it... the smell.... the smell...

Morrocan Oil Moisture Repair Shampoo: It didn't dry my hair out.
Morrocan Oil Restorative Hair Mask: It made my hair stronger. I had only a few strands in the comb while I combed it wet. My hair was also easy to comb while blow drying, no tangles and I have 4c natural hair.
Sexy Hair Blow Out: I love this stuff.
Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Relaxing Balm: It help straighten my hair without weighing it down.

Hit: I haven't yet ordered the pomade from ITDF, so I tried a mix of avocado butter (75%) and mineral oil (25%) to seal my hair before braiding. The braids were shiny and super moist. So moist, I thought they were still damp. After a week of wear, it washed clean and I tried the mix again before twisting my hair. Same fantastic results. I avoid petrolatum and mineral oil in most products, but they do make great sealants.

If I order my pomade and it doesn't perform just as well, I'll go right back to this mix.
